Huge congrats to Flocker. Anyone else notice that all 3 Evo champions are/were Phoenix players. EVEN IN DEATH SHE LIVES. ALWAYS BET ON RED!

KI could get money hatted in. Persona might get replaced and have a side-tourney. SFxTekken might be dead altogether, no side tourney. Skullgirls might get upgraded to an official tourney. Injustice will be there, but maybe MK will be out or side-tourney'd.

wtf was up with that? I missed part of the presentation so I'm not sure how that mechanic work

What happened was Maximillian kept trying the same combo. Literally. Over and over.

So the other guy adapted and broke him whenever he tried to combo.

What Max should've done was anticipated the breaker if he didn't know another combo to do and counter the breaker into a combo, as shown by other matches.

So it was basically Maximillian getting schooled bad.

I thought KI looked fun outside of the constant combo breaking announcements.

Who won Divekick, ST and any other side tournaments?

This Evo was incredible. Highlights were Justin comeback, Ice Climbers and SSF4 Top8. So which games are gonna make it next year?

UMVC3
USF4
KOF13 (20th Ann?)
Smash?

I don't know if we'll even see a ASW or NetherRealm game next year. I'm sure KI will take one of those slots.

I don't think Smash 4 will be out before evo next year, and by 2015 who knows what people will be playing. I imagine The new Guilty Gear will be on console by then, as will Capcom's next big fighter maybe even Namco's too. I don't see Melee coming back, but it had a great show.

It's 2:30 AM here and I should be asleep for sure. This time is horrible for pretty much everywhere except West Coast and Hawai.

Anyway, viewers at peak time:

KOFXIII: 90,620
Melee: 134,523
Injustice: ~109,000
Marvel: 145,099
Street Fighter: ~125,000

Awesome numbers. How the hell is Melee that high :lol

Pretty awesome Evo. I'm not sure if anything will top Evo 2011, but this was pretty damn good. Here's hoping Melee will make a return next year.

Personally I just find NRS games clunky to watch for some reason.

That's understandable, seems to be a very common complaint with their games

It's just those are the only games I really play since I don't need an arcade stick to play them properly. I just wish they'd hire better modelers/animators.

I think they will do 8 or 9 next year

Ultra SF4
UMCV3 (hopefully with a patch)
SFxT (unfortunately)
Smash Brothers of some kind
Tekken Tag 2 (SCV side tournament)
KOF XIII (assuming there is no new KOF)
Persona 4 or Guilty Gears

I think MK9 gets cut unless WB throws in a large pot bonus.
Killer Instinct maybe (this honestly may not happen because of the cost of the xbox one and other logistics)
Injustice
Yeah, mostly agreed, it'll be
Ultra SF4
UMvC3
SFxT
Injustice
Smash Bros Melee
KOF13
BlazBlue CP
Tekken Tag 2

Hoping Skullgirls gets more hype once Squigly is completely done + the other 4 characters are released.

There will absolutely be an anime game and a netherrealm game. I still think that injustice is horribly unbalances and looks like shit, but it's newer and has a broader range of appeal over MK9.

I'm just not digging KI. The attacks just look janky. It's hard to tell when attacks start and end. Those low attacks glacius was doing looked really messed up.

KI has a lot of ground to cover in order to make it to EVO next year. One, it's on a next-gen system and two it's on a next-gen system that most people do not prefer.

Killer Instinct could have a chance if it is the only major next generation fighting game released by the next EVO in presumably July 2014. But then again, that could either make or break the game alone considering how limited the Xbone install base will be by that time compared to 360/PS3.
Killer Instinct just has such an uphill battle. It's basically a new game as far as community goes, and like you said, there's no telling what the Xbone install base will even be like next year. Plus, there's the logistics of needing to get that many Xbones to support one game (though, I guess they'll just have to do like it Smash and have the players bring shit). Of course, there is always the possibility of money hats.

Injustice

I can see SFxT getting the axe next year. Despite the fact that Capcom has been trying to push it for a very long time, I feel like after the release of USF4 they're basically going to drop it. I can also see TTT2 getting the axe, SC5 got the axe after a year and IIRC wasn't the Tekken community mad over the rules regarding Dualshock 3s or something? I feel like Killer Instinct is a lock unless it bombs, Microsoft is obviously going to push it on the FGC pretty hard regardless of how much people don't like the Xbox One. I also doubt we'll see MK9 next year, I feel like it was only in this year because they weren't sure how well Injustice would do.

Also, we could see the new BlazBlue instead of Guilty Gear or P4A (especially if Guilty Gear isn't out on consoles by then).

Unless Microsoft sponsors EVO and gives them a whole bunch of consoles for Killer Instinct along with a generous pot bonus, I don't think anyone is going to bother.

Okay, that's what's exactly going to happen isn't it?

You must really hate NRS games, because they are even greater violators in this regard.

MS apparently spent around $50 million on Titanfall as a timed exclusive. No way will they not moneyhat KI in.

Guilty Gear will have barely been out in arcades for a few months by then if it's even out at all, anyone thinking GG is going to be out by then is crazy

Haha, yup. Well, most likely.

I'm imagining the world where Nintendo got behind Smash this year and brought, let's say, the Megaman trailer with them instead of dropping that at E3.

SFxT will get the axe if it stops getting consistent entrants at tourneys.
For the most part, it was the Mike Ross of the games since January.
Also, there is pretty much always a 3d fighter at EVO.
TTT2 stays unless REVOLUTION becomes the standard, haha
And buying Xbones for the sake of one game might sit hard with EVO unless they are given free to them

SFxT is definitely up in the air.
Namco will have a game on main stage. Since they have nothing else in their release list, I expect it to be TTT2.
The problem with Killer Instinct is that, unless Microsoft gives them the consoles and game, it probably won't be worth it.

Not at all. I know what you mean. Injustice does have some of that (it's a 3d thing), but it's not that bad. KI has really fast recovery on a lot of the moves I've seen. It reminds of how Darkstalkers has light attacks that are so fast with little block stun.

Yea I was really perplexed by the game, it was like if people who gathered together and made a game with no neutral whatsoever. They were either doing a combo or doing a combo breaker and each hit did less damage than jab in any other game.

The way things work in KI is that most of your damage comes from your ender, the move you finish a combo with. How much your ender does is actually based off of the rest of the combo. If someone breaks you, that means you don't get to perform your ender and therefor you miss out on most of the damage. Watch the last match again with Rich and you'll see him actually completing combos and doing a lot more damage than Max was as Glacius.

The problem with the new KI is that they changed the breaker system to be that anything can be broken now, when before it was just doubles. So shit constantly being broken means its harder to finish your combos and actually get damage. The new counter breaker system is their answer to that, but it still seems like the system is a little too loose at the moment.

They either need to change it back to where not everything can be broke again, or up the damage a bit on normals to balance out seemingly not getting to your finishers as often.

But then again it could have just been low level play affecting things today. The difference between Maxs and Richs Glacius damage was pretty noticeable.
