At UFGT9, there was a guy who went 0-3 because he accidentally paused all three matches. I laughed so hard. Pad players, too, so it's even more confusing.

First time watching Evo for me and I loved it. P4A was awesome and Marvel was amazing. Definitely gonna check out competitive streams more often now.

Seriously though, it seemed like Smash was the only game that had everyone mostly mean-mugging after each game.
Pretty understandable too. Tell your players if they're doing a Best of 3 and not Best of 5 =/ Neither of them had a clue.

I hate the idea of having to wait an entire year for EVO again. This was my first time watching it and I watched all of it. I see some people saying it was the best one yet, but not sure if that's just because the hype still hasn't settled.
So, what's the consensus? Best EVO ever? Because if it is, I picked a perfect time to start watching this thing.

Honestly though, I do respect Chris G's response on Twitter. He owned up to that shit. Good for him. He's owning up to his shitty public image and doing something about it.

this years evo was incredible. all the games i liked had extremely fun top 8's. i hope smash and kof return next year. the smash community is too good to be left out of the biggest fighting game tournament of the year. i have a ton of respect for those guys. i don't think MK/TT2/SFXT are coming back next year.

Yea, it's the best ever followed closely by 2011 ( pr rogs tron comeback, Justin's Akuma comeback, poongko perfecting daigo and Latif going bonkers in top 8)

Each year's been bigger than the last since the beginning, more or less. Different games have their ups and downs and highs and lows but in general it's an improvement every year.
Next year you might want to follow the srkevo twitch channel in the weeks leading up to the event, since they'll usually have a loop of past EVOs playing, most of which weren't streamed but recorded on VHS/DVDs. Might be a good way to get acquainted with the history of the event even if you don't watch every bit of history.
poongko destroying daigo is still the unmatched moment of evo for me, it had the big match buildup due to Poongko walking over everyone @ shadowloo showdown, a tourny daigo missed. And just the way it was done, the showmanship with the red bull etc, the crowd reaction, unmatched.
He lost and the overdose of salt blocking his cartilages disabled him to shake his hand.

Great Evo. Although i missed the first hour. Kof was great once again. I don't follow smash but people were hype and it had second highest views. Injustice was whatever to me. It wasn't that bad though. Marvel with Jwong was pretty hype. Too bad he didn't win. It would've been a great story. AE went really really well i was surprised how well the 3/5 went. That Hakan pick. It was really great the whole way through.

Gotta say, the Smash, Marvel and SF intro videos were all really something else. The Smash one made me swell with pride for a community I'm not even a part of, while the SF one really was a great way to retell the story of its 5 years at Evo. Top production.
My hype was through the roof when Poongko got the perfect on him. I've loved the man ever since.
Don't worry there will be plenty of tournaments to tide you over until next year.
Speaking of tides next week we goin to da beach!

Yeah, it's actually the first Evo rap intro that hasn't had something that made me cringe. Genuinely a pretty solid song.
The Smash one was just great. Someone needs to put this whole thing under Nintendo's nose and say, "look, see." The way the video said "Welcome Back" rather than listing Evo appearances, and had the breast cancer ribbon in the corner - just bloody perfect.
The crowd chanting "one more year" after Smash finished slayed me, and I don't even care about the competitive scene of that game - but it made me realize I could. I hope they get another year, and I hope Nintendo notices this in a good way.
