Fighting Games Weekly | July 15-21 | Post-EVO Pillow Talk

it would have probably looked better if it was JUST a balance update instead of adding all these things in

Nah. If they promised a balance update then decide to add a bunch of stages and characters then I'll take that too happily. The only thing I'm mad about is the longer wait.

Also getting pissed about stages is kinda funny since everyone only ever plays the training mode stage.

I just saw the whole Marvel top 8 again.

Justin "Marvelous" Wong is the most patient and has the most solid defense out of any Marvel player out there... bar none. The Zero mix ups and pressure he blocked at the final game of the first GF was ridiculous... 99% of other players would've folded there.

If he had came back for the ultimate final game that would've been EVO moment for sure although he already had enough EVO moments in that top 8. And that was a comeback that was definitely within the realm of possibility. Twice Justin got that Zero to pixel health.

Also no one is talking about it but Flocker clutched out quite a few games with Hawkeye even against Justin.

It isn't just the Capcom games, it just happens to be the more prounounced in Capcom games.

The only game that had realistic stage lag outside of capcom games was MK9. ASW games, KOF, Injustice, and others are all fine. MT framework just sucks on ancient ass hardware that's hard to develop for.

I'm glad I play the PC version of SFIV because every stage is 60fps anywhere anytime. It just really sucks for spectating purposes. Also, hearing that training music is brutal.

Still on a high after EVO.

Infiltration's set with PR_Rog and that Hakan counter pick. So much for me to learn from that, at one point I think he canceled oil dive with D+PPP which I didn't even know was possible. Mega respect for Infiltration's play this year, no reliance on demons, either.

I have no idea what in the hell this is even suppose to mean.

"reliance" on demons, like it's just an easy thing to land. Easier to land then Rufus or Ryus Ultras. :/
Infiltration played worse this year, no two ways around it.

Exactly. Unfortunately all flocker need was the one hit

Man, everything was so hype yesterday. I had no sleep so everything after KOF's hype bomb is kind of a blur. Only Injustice failed to provide this year; between that and the KI ad that followed I almost didn't stay up.

I can't decide what was the best finals this year, which is a big difference from last year where KOF blew everything else away. KOF still blew it up, god damn that game's hype when it counts.

I think most people like it because there isn't a lot of things going on. Some also count the squares between them and the opponent. Really helps if you're a grappler or someone with strong normals.
Eh, I never focus on that sort of thing, but it might be different if I were fighting Sako or Tokido.

Ah gotcha
I can't even comprehend how spamming that stuff enhances the experience for people.
Some people get a kick out of riots, decapitation and crowd waves.

I just wanna post some PJSalt for the hell of it. I don't see the big deal. There are far more puzzling and scary things in this world than stream monster moments.

I don't feel that any of those 3 you listed relate to stream monster spam. You aren't becoming a part of anything when you spam a chat screen that floods out every half second. No one read your post or acknowledged your existence. You are alone in your room.

Whether there are more puzzling things in the world doesn't negate the strangeness of stream monster activity to me.

Doesn't make stream monster moments any less scary than what they are. That being said i exercise the option of turning that shit off every time I look at a stream.

I watched the UMvC3 finals and that was pretty great stuff. Justin Wong comebacks were phenomenal. More so loved the fact that I didn't see a lot of hidden missile spam.

Watched Tekken before that and that was solid play as well. Bronson really impressive.

Matches from both kept me on edge. Brilliant considering I don't like spectating.

Wow. That is kind of sad. Recycled characters and stages and add a $15 price tag. PROFIT. It's not surprising, though, considering it's capcpom. At least the visuals will be better.

You are entitled to feel the way you do. I'm not really going to get into a multi-page debate about it and I'm certainly not going to hate on Spooky for doing us a favor and shutting down the idiots.

Calm down. You're reading connotations into "reliance" that aren't there. I meant that his opponents in top 8 were aware of the demon and gave him no opportunities to use it through smart footsies, etc. Unlike last finals. My point is mostly driven by the comments about last year's finals being "demons everywhere."

Same thing with Tokido, though Tokido tried (I think) 3 demons and whiffed two of them (one was a clear corner escape though).

Not having laugh around hurt him.

I am still not a fan of disallowing a coach on the side.

I just can't see Evo growing next year as well.
This year got a huge influx thanks to Super Smash Bros, but there's really nothing they can do to attract an entirely different audience again.

Without the publicity of the Breast Cancer Research Drive (even if they do it again next year, since Super Smash Bros will probably be a part of the main lineup, I doubt it'll get much hype), and Nintendo's stupidity, I don't think stream viewers will jump up either.

You sound like someone who stands still during concerts.

so: If you were to play Wolverine/X/Akuma, who would you put second and why? (It can't be plasma beam)
Shuma Gorath. Mostly just because I like the character.

But Angelic has already proven that Wolverine/Shuma is a deadly combo. Who doesn't love full screen beam assists that OTG? Character obviously takes some work, but I think it'd be worth it if you like playing with him.

We can't say Smash has topped out yet. With proper support and enthusiasm it can make more appearances at majors and get more smashers involved regionally. That could attract a larger audience for the climax of the tournament year. No person here could have predicted that Marvel would get 145,000 viewers on it's third EVO, but here we are.

Well since my Storm is terrible, gotta go with Spencer (with Slant Shot assist). Good for resets/OTG pickup for Wolverine, and Akuma assist works well for him of course.

Dormammu. He can be used pick up off throws, set up double fatal claw, and great DHC similar to (but not as good) as Storm. Dorm can also kind of use Akuma as a get off me assist, helps win the projectile wars, and can be used to extend combos.

Also agree with the above poster saying Spencer.

I'm totally okay with them recycling assets from a shitty game and putting them into a good game. Those characters are a waste sitting in SFxT.

Also, the top 8 for Melee at Evo was good, but not GREAT. If Melee caught your eye on Sunday, I definitely recommend checking out the top 8 at Apex 2013 and Apex 2012.

VoDs of SSBM side stream that featured other matches in the bracket from EVO slowly going up on vgbootcamp (if you haven't seen high level Mewtwo, you should go and check out the match they uploaded)
grass stage woulda replaced it :-(
Too much background lighting particle effects, back to training stage.

Seriously though, grass stage would have been awesome. They could have made 3 different variations of it too that could have all been cool in their own way. A grass stage where it's snowing and there are some nice little detail like the snow crunching with every step you take? Awesome.

Infiltration didn't play any worse. He dissembled Daigo the same way as their previous two encounters. His adaptation to Sako's Ibuki was amazing. He just was matched up this year to people who could beat him, and that's how tournaments go.

Akuma assist sucks for Dormammu.

Yeah, apparently he got a call from them about it. There's a second tweet.

So MAYBE we'll get a public response from them. But I doubt it because last week Triforce said we'd get a statement from Nintendo and didn't.
I would die of joy and hilarity if Triforce got a job as a Nintendo Smash community manager or something.

I wonder if the stages will transition. I doubt it. If so, will we get multiple versions of each? Very curious, as several of those stages change significantly throughout a bout.
