Steam Sale - (Overlooked) Indie Game Deals Discussion Thread

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words :) I can't share numbers, but Steam has been very good to the game. It's my preferred gaming platform, so it was a pleasure to finally bring it over.

No plans for a DRM-free distribution option? I want to buy your game on the PC, but the possibility of a non-Stearn release is holding me back.

So has anyone ever bought Steam Wallet Cards from 7/11? I want to buy a $20 card but want to know how often the stores have the card stocked, compared to like a Gamestop or Best Buy

Need to buy more indies...

Oh good, thanks for letting me know beforehand :) I'll pick it up now then, have been wanting to play it for AGES.

FYI for those hoping that Dust:AET will drop below 50% during the sale... I'm not allowed to say but let's just say chances are VERY slim.
Love the game. Bought it on steam and XBLA

I'm kinda narrowing down my purchases for this sale. I've already got And Yet It Moves, Thomas Was Alone, and Terraria (I know not much but I'm trying to limit myself). I've got a couple games in mind that look good but I was wondering if anyone had any impressions: Super Puzzle Platformer, A.R.E.S., and Titan Attacks.

Those 3 look good but I'm not sure if they are good. Titan Attacks kinda resembles Space Invaders.

I'm also probably going to end up with 1000 Amps unless it doesn't have XBox controller support. I hate playing platformers with a keyboard.

EDIT:Oh yea, I forgot Super House of Dead Ninjas and Dead Pixels.

I like Super Puzzle Platformer. Tight controls, fun concept, great little score attack game. Also, the VS mode is really fun.

Any good shump's on the Steam sale besides Sine Mora?

Jamestown
eXceed 2nd - Vampire RE
eXceed 3rd - Jade Penetrate Black Package

eXceed games are cheaper in a bundle, first one seemed pretty bad from what I played, but #2 and #3 are great.

Does anyone have impressions on Analogue: A Hate Story? (maybe someone who also played Digital: A Love Story, which I really enjoyed!)

Great game, amusing VN mechanism (mostly reading old emails + some minor linux-like console commands), not a fan of the art, but music and story make up for it.

Got 1000 Amps and I might be done for the summer. I really like this one despite it not having controller support. It's quite fun and a get little explorer. Now, I just have to finish Thomas Was Alone too, along with playing this and a million other things!

Alright, Toma. Your constant barrage of reusreusreus has convinced me to get it even though I have a billion games to play.

Are there any turn-based strategy games I should look at? List a few if you can, I probably own some.

Additionally to the other TBS games already mentioned, you should/could check out the Paradox games. Europa Universalis 3, Victoria 2 etc.

Disclaimer first up, because I've only played a short amount of it.

But how about Gateways? http://store.steampowered.com/app/216290/ 50% off at US: $2.49. I couldn't see it mentioned in the thread so far.

It is a 2D platformer, which is a good start. The main claim to fame of it? Is it has powerups like a portal gun which allow you to travel through walls. As you can see from the screens, it can all get you a bit "mentally guard broken" even early on.

Anybody else want to second it as a long term proposition?

Definitely gets a thumbs up from me as well. Intricate level/puzzle design. Will add it now.

?

Just be advised, the last few puzzles are pretty much exercises in tedium. I just couldn't be arsed to finish the last puzzle (and I tried... dunno, for 3 days, I guess).

Anything before that is great though. Both this game and Adventures of Shuggy are amazing, considering they were done by one guy.

I liked it, the puzzles and powerups you get later on and very creative. I would also recommend Adventures of Shuggy, it was made by the same guy and is similar in many ways to Gateways. The time loop powerup, for example, comes from Shuggy.

Actually own that one and have sunk over 3 minutes into it...so 4 minutes really.

Will give it another shot now.

There's an awful lot of La-Mulana not being talked about in this thread...it's still 50% off during the summer sale!

Support uusssss

(We're not doing a flash or daily sale for La-Mulana, so there's no point waiting for that)

I bought it, happy?! I even installed it and I'm going to play it now.

I'm not sure how it works in 7/11, but in GAME in the UK they don't even need to have the actual cards in stock, they just print out a receipt with the code on it.

I hit the search thread function, and incredably, I didn't find any mention of Hard Reset in this thread, an absurd deal from its already low price of $15 at now $3.74. Its an old school FPS with little fat and really great graphics/gameplay. How does a game this awesome not become a major hit, I dunno?

Hard Reset is now $3.74, is amazing.

I played the demo last night and really enjoyed it. I didn't even bother finishing it as I had already decided to pick it up. I am not that keen on the FPS genre though so only play them occasionally or I get sick of them. So I'm probably more forgiving of FPS games than someone who plays a lot of them might be. In any case it's cheap enough to justify a purchase for me. Thanks HyperZone :).

Q.U.B.E. - $2,49 (75%)

Played the demo last night and loved it :D. I would say that I enjoyed it more than the Portal demo but I don't want to be eviscerated for heresy of a sacred cow, so I won't. My keyboard and mouse skills have improved slightly since I tried Portal though so I'll definitely go back to it and try it again. It is so beloved that I owe it to myself to do so. I wish my facility with kbm would hurry up though! It still feels so alien and clumsy to me :(.

While it's not really an overlooked indie game it seems to be an overlooked indie game deal so I'll repost it from the steam sale thread.
If you're waiting for Rogue Legacy to go on sale it's already 20% off through the humble store http://www.roguelegacy.com/ and you get not only the Steam key but also a DRM free version.

QUBE feels very generic and bland compared to Portal. Still, it's an extremely competent puzzler. Fun and challenging in it's own right and well worth more than that price.

When it turns off the lights somewhere around the halfway point it becomes more frustrating than fun.

Your game looks good but I don't want to buy it unless I can try it for myself first. How's about putting up a demo? Since the XBLA version already has a demo, it seems like a no-brainer.

It's 20% off on steam as well. I bet it will be daily, so I suggest waiting even if you want a DRM free version as they will likely price match steam.

That was also the reason I was reluctant to pick it up. I didn't like the art style, but the gameplay looked cool, and many people on the Steam thread were saying the game was amazing. So I finally caved in and bought it.

with trading cards money. And I haven't played it yet...

Anyone has any opinion on Clones

I loved Lemmings on Amiga, is this comparable?

Someone in this thread mentioned its basically a modern Lemmings that will appease classic Lemmings fans, didnt play it myself yet however.

Effin' brilliant little game, this. Once the hotkeys are down, you really do have a ton of control and options. Hope people are taking note!

Good work, Sapient. Bringing light to the depths I thought GAF already strode about in. Alas, like Frozen Synapse, few seem to know which bandwagon to leap aboard! :D

OT (free demo): http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=412894

There are a few people in that thread loving it who I fully trust on game recommendations, so it should be a safe purchase.
