I admit that it is a big assumption. There is no hard data to measure and this could easily devolve into an anecdotal pissing contest. But assuming that the real Metal Gear fans had a PS1 and not a N64 isn't exactly like leaping over the Grand Canyon. All I am asking for is that if there are third party characters they should be significant to Nintendo fans and not just 'Videogame' fans. Sakurai agrees with this sentiment as well, and it is obvious that Snake wouldn't be in the series if it wasn't for Kojima's whining, the Smash series is huge and doesn't need Snake to do any heavy lifting. You mentioned Simon Belmont, and in my opinion, he is a perfect example of a character that deserves a spot on the roster much more than the Plissken imitator does.

That would be awesome. I hope they would consider an Advance Wars character... I recall Days of Ruin wasn't released in Japan so I don't know what that says about the franchise over there.

My knowledge on the series is lacking but I would guess that all of those war tools have appeared in the series at one point. If I remember correctly Sami's specialty is automatic weapons.

I think the important thing is that even if she herself doesn't use that kind of artillery, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Sami to use it considering the setting of the game she's in.
Also I was never good at Snake's playstyle, but he was fun. I could never do the DACUS, but man I remember that being a completely ridiculous attack. It gave Link a nice edge to him, but with Snake it was too much to deal with.

Sami would be a pretty easy fit for all of Snake's stuff. Doesn't really matter if she actually used all of the same weapons, this is the series that gave us Captain Falcon out of nothing.
Eh, isn't that what some of them do anyway? Just going off memory but atleast the Hammer would need that animation for everyone.

It could be a weird way of integrating the balloon presents from the series, coupled with a mechanic where players can cancel his up-B by popping the balloons prematurely. Also could be a way of working in Balloon Fighter after he was passed in favor of Ice Climbers back in Melee.

I would be in 100 percent support of this character, but I can't imagine a playable Advance Wars rep making it in, even taking Wii Fit Trainer into consideration...

Sadly, I don't see it happening either. But it's because the development team is too busy working on Captain Syrup, Ashley and Red, Duck Hunt Dog, Team Koopa Kid, and Mach Rider.

The first message sounds believable on it's own because nothing is really huge. The second one is though which could suggest the first message was to build up believability

I've only read the first part of the rumor. Reading the second one now... yeah that definitely made it not believable. I mean I think it's possible that Mewtwo (along with the Awakening form) would be in Smash. But the biggest mistake is to make up rumors about a very popular character. Too transparent and a big giveaway. Normally when we get rumors about Smash Bros that ends up being true it's never about the popular characters. Still, parts of the rumor sounds really interesting as ideas but yeah I am calling it fake too. I really don't trust GameFAQs... have they ever got a rumor right regarding Smash Bros?

A lot of it is super-easy to infer stuff like Little Mac when he's clearly the most likely out of those three rumored characters hence he confirms him right off the bat, 3DS having more of an emphasis on Adventure Mode when Sakurai has hinted as much since the original announcement back in 2011 and Mewtwo being heavily considered* when he was supposed to be in Brawl and Sakurai said somewhat casually they'd 'think about it' at this E3.
If the next character's Pokemon Trainer or whoever I'd take more notice though.
*And the way he describes that situation is suspect; didn't Sakurai already say the roster picks (not necessarily the actual design-work on them) were finalized by now? I'd find it strange they'd started working on a character they're not really sure if Game Freak will allow them to use or not.

Nothing really amazing to get excited over in a would-be-cool kind off way. I guess the "next character reveal will be a Pokémon" will let us know if there's any merit.

Andy is definitely my most wanted relatively "forgotten" character, but I don't see this happening. Maybe if Intelligent Systems had made Advance Wars: Awakening, but at this point it's already late even if they do it now. :-(

I swear there were a million different rumors and 'leaks' during 2007 with blatantly retarded and made-up shit which got allowed on GameFAQS (didn't post at GameFAQ's at the time but word still normally got around rumor-wise where I *did* post). Ironic taking that into account that one of the few legitimate leaks got hit with a violation.

The Break the Targets information in that supposed leak doesn't really make sense. Stages per franchise? For any franchise with more than one character, It'd be the same as the universal break the target stages in Brawl, but without actually allowing you to play as everyone. I don't think that really makes sense.
Sounds a bit off that they'd waste time coming up with a complete character when there is a possibility for it to be rejected. Surely they'd just say "Mewtwo plus its new form could be interesting, lets ask GameFreaks first before working on it". I'm sure I remember Sakurai saying that a lot of work goes into just making one character so that makes it even stranger that they'd risk wasting time on something that could be rejected.

Ness uses attacks that belonged to other Earthbound characters. Wolf and Falco have never driven Landmasters.

We already know they are using Smash characters in conjunction with upcoming releases (as in the case of Pikmin 3) and there's no major franchises from the series seeing mainline games until October.
Guessing Newtwo will be revealed around then isn't this hugely risky thing.

Yeah, why bother at that point. Give everyone their own stage. Especially if franchises with one character represented get their own stage by that logic.
