"My proposal is simply to introduce a bracket that prohibits using any character that has a projectile attack"

:|

This is a really really minor insignificant thing, but I really hope that Capcom goes back to doing "fight intros" for Street Fighter games the way used before 4. No cinematics, just the two characters on screen doing whatever cool little intro animation the devs came up with.

Especially stuff like the special character specific intros. They really helped in giving characters personality and setting the mood for certain fights. You know Gen is a badass old man when he blocks Akuma's raging demon and then counters with his own super. Doesn't even have to be something as flashy as that, stuff like the classic Ryu-Ken fistbump tells you plenty about the characters and their relationship. I feel like something is lost in the mini cinematics they opted for this time around with 4 and SFxT (although at least that one has special team intros, so there is that).

And how in the fuck does Guy manage to find barrels to angrily kick in every stage anyways? Why the fuck are there barrels near some active volcano? Why does Guy have such a deep-seated grudge against barrels? So many questions.

quoting this shit to agree with it.

That Venture Beat article is a joke, right?

You tell me

Watching two Evo competitors trade fireballs for nine rounds elicits some of the aforementioned frustrations, despite requiring a constant response of dodge, duck, and dive. I don’t think it’s feasible to just remove projectiles, but maybe we can find a middle ground. My proposal is simply to introduce a bracket that prohibits using any character that has a projectile attack. This would do a couple of things: give people bored of fireball spam an alternative and provide much-needed exposure for some of Street Fighter’s less popular combatants. The crowd this year went nuts when a player swapped from Hadouken-happy Akuma to grapple-focused Hakan.

"Give exposure for less popular characters"

LOL.

Yes, in this bracket, finally Cammy and Fei Long will get their time in the sun!

I like the Editor's note put before the article. He definitely sensed the potential bee's hive the dude was kicking:

"Editor's Note from Eduardo Moutinho: Jeremy makes an interesting argument, but I believe high-level fighting-game competition is all about exploiting the strongest moves and play styles. If events ban projectiles, players will just go to the next most effective attack."

Before folks get too mad at Venture Beast, it should probably noted that the author was a "community writer" aka just some dude not the guys at Venture Beat themselves.

They still felt like it passed muster to publish. Like the blogs in Forbes. "They should put Monster Hunter on PS360 cause I don't own a Nintendo system"

I am surprised that writer didn't go ham on Soul Fist. I guess he is fine with one person throwing fireballs and the other trying to get in but opposed to two people sitting back throwing fireballs.

Stuff like this is why that new LoL fighter could be big if done right. No one really likes "spammy" play it doesn't matter how high level it is you don't get respect for using the same few moves over and over again. A fighting game with cooldowns implemented for specials could just be the remedy.. as long as they keep that shit away from the main fighters like AE and Marvel.

Although people will still find some way to complain.

Me thinks he only watched EVO and hasn't seen how the tournament season played out over time. All he probably knew is that everyone hated this one Morrigan player who made top 8 for whatever reason.

Anyone knows the projected numbers so far (registration) for the VxG tourney cause their site is horrible and I don't see anything getting pools lined up etc. I am also trying to figure out what to expect.

Oh my God, why didn't I post in this thread any sooner?

Can someone please send my Mike Jones to da Beech? It'll be double relevant too given StarTropics takes place at da beech! :lol

This is like the 3d time I see the XF Anti-Phoenix tech done outside of casuals ever since it was discovered

How can we hold all these Phoenix Wright players at EVO?

Getting beat down by a Phoenix Wright player has to be the worst feeling in this game. Worse than watching Zero's movies or getting infinited. I had to go to therapy after playing SlasherMcGirk.
