Is it racist if you aren't attracted to a particular race?

I'm gonna say yes but people are afraid to admit that we're all a little prejudiced. Its this fear of being labeled racist that scares people. Well not me. I don't see color when I decide to say welcome to my bedroom... please don't make me waaa aaa aa ait.

I don't think it's racist, but I sure as hell think it's dumb.

To me saying "I don't date black women/men ( as an example)" means you're completely writing off millions of people that fits that description. You're assuming everyone in that category acts/looks the same way and that just isn't true. That's fucking stupid.

Of your love? Who is that hurting exactly?

I never said anything about hurting anyone, again, not sure if that stops you being a racist. If you go around thinking to yourself "Fucking black people/asians/jews" all the time but never say it out loud, you're still a racist, and that doesn't hurt anybody either.

Yeah you could make the argument that it is, in the most technical sense, racist. But it's not "racist" in the way people usually mean when they use that word. Attraction is discriminatory in a whole bunch of ways, but we just accept that it plays by a different set of rules.

Really? Not being attracted to a certain race makes you a racist now?

That's pretty goddamn stupid.

Well no, no it isn't. If you're unconditionally unattracted to human beings of a certain skin colour, then I'm not really sure how else to label it.

I have a thing for eastern European women with psychotic, controlling personalities. It doesn't mean I'd ever say no to a Black or Asian woman, because god damn I've seen insane hotness in all ethnicities.

Nope. I really don't see how people are claiming its racist. It is a sexual preference.

If you treat someone lower then a human-being based on their race? That is racist.

The reason so many of you don't think it's racist is because it's so widespread and common. "I don't find you attractive and won't date you because of your race" is as simple and literal to the definition of racism as you can get! Put aside any personal guilt and think about how stupid it is to deny something so obvious.

You can take a dozen different personal scenarios and clearly demonstrate racism if it's about the person's race: withholding friendship, denying employment, refusing to sell a home in a particular neighborhood, denying service at your business, profiling a stranger, etc.

But dating? LOL no that's just preference! Racial preference... aka racism??? Hmm.

What a load of shit @ the people in denial.

It wasn't a literal YOU, firstly. Secondly, that is what the thread is about. Finding a particular race unattractive.

No, it's about not being attracted to a specific race. You're wording it as saying all of a race is ugly. Those are 2 very different things, and saying an entire race is ugly would be a textbook definition of racism.

Yes? You're saying that you don't find ONE person of the entire race attractive. That all members of said race share certain features that you dislike. It's judging an entire race based on a few.

Exactly. Not everyone in a single race is going to share a single trait to be disliked.

...Except for skin color. What if someone just isn't attracted to light skin tones? That writes off anyone who's white (unless they're tanned to a hideous, orange-ish extent, but in that case who would find that attractive anyway). Is it racist to find light skin tones unattractive, which unfortunately rules out anyone of a certain race?

I mean, this is hypothetical because who you're quoting did not say anything like that, and that's not what the thread is about (it's about simply having preferences and whether or not that's racist), but still.

Porn largely ruined Asian women for me. I still find them attractive but in the back of my mind I see a large mosaic'd bush and screams that sound like a little girl getting raped. That shit is awful.

Only if the carpet doesn't match the drapes.

It is racist and those saying it isn't are also racist. As had been said several times in this thread there are too many variations within each race to be able to unequivocally state 'I'm not attracted to race x and world never date someone of that race'.
Now, on the other hand if someone says 'I'm generally not attracted to race x but if I were to come across someone from that race that I found attractive I'd be open to dating that person' that is not racist.

I've looked at classic Tyra Banks bouncing down a runway and would have given my left leg to shag her.
A kid me had a fascination with Grace Jones in A View to a Kill way beyond any other woman in that movie.

But in general I prefer paler skin, in the same way I'm rarely attracted to blondes.

I've never considered it racist to have a preference, especially since preferences can change.

I think the only thing that ever made me wonder is that I'm not attracted to Halle Berry at all and she exists in the same sexual black hole that Julia Roberts does - not ugly but just nothing.

... it's not about saying a race is ugly nor did I say that it was. It's about lumping every single member of a race into one bucket and saying that all members share certain features that you're not attracted to. If you're not attracted to dark skin then you may say you're not attracted to black women which assumes that all black women have dark skin. They don't. Therefore you're being racist in lumping every member of a race into sharing a distinct feature you aren't attracted to.

What if you suffer from an inheritable disease that tends to only afflict people of your race, and your sexual preferences lead to you only find interest in people of other races because of it, for your potential child's sake, in a world where adoption might be unaffordable to you?

Dude you're attracted to lighter skin tones because subconsciously you only like white based features or something close enough to it. But your favorite tv shows, movies, magazines, music artists and porn have all white fair skinned people with Caucasian features so you're conditioned to it. It what you find as the only attractiveness. Darker individuals be damned. It not really all your fault but you never really tried so in sense.

It is racist because you're making a generalization that all members of that specific race look alike. Or that all share certain features that are exactly the same. Not all black women have dark skin so if you aren't attracted to dark skin there are still millions of black women that may appeal to you.

Sigh. It's a generalization everyone makes. What makes someone black and someone Indian, what makes someone Italian?

So when you say I'm white, aren't you generalizing yourself that you look and are representative of the entire group of white people? Of course you are.

If you aren't attracted to dark skin, than you aren't attracted to dark skin and you'd say I only prefer fair skin.

Geez, that's a strawman argument if I ever saw one. I'm not racist for saying a lot of white people have pale skin or that indians have black hair. So if you say I'm not attracted to Indians, you're probably generalizing, but when you say someone is an Indian, you're doing the same aren't you? Same goes for Hispanics. People gave Disney a lot of shit for making a Hispanic princess that wasn't brown enough, as if all Hispanics need to be brown.

Like I said, making sweeping generalizations is probably indicative of ignorance, not racism.

Human women are "ok", I guess.....but they don't really compare to Vulcan women. I don't really see myself dating a human woman. Maybe if I found the right one.

it's just a matter of aesthetic preferences, not racism. Sure, claiming a entire race isn't attractive is a bit over the top

...Actually, I've grown up in the Deep South. All I see are white people and black people. Yet Asian guys bring me to my knees; I find them to be most attractive when I see a crowd of good-looking guys. How have I been shaped into that? If what you said is true, I'd find white guys most attractive. I don't; I consider them mildly attractive simply because I myself am white and if I didn't find myself attractive my self esteem would be in the dumpster.

I see this as pretty innocuous is all. If it doesn't get formally expressed I don't see how it can be pointed at as racism. People do a lot of discriminating when choosing a partner.

I don't think so. I'm not that sexually attracted to asian women, but I still enjoy asian culture. My best friend is asian (I'm hispanic).

I just prefer european and (dark-skinned) brazilian girls.

You've been tricked into thinking they're subservient.

Intentional or not, I laughed hard.

How much Japanese shows and Korean videos do watch? And ironically (this is going to sound hypocritical) many people go after what they consider exotic. Asians were a rarity where you lived.

You've been tricked into thinking they're subservient.

My state is filled with illegal Mexican immigrants. I was conditioned into thinking they're subservient, and had to grow out of that and force my mindset away from that. I don't generally find Latino guys attractive, and I never have.

Intentional or not, I laughed hard.

Not, but hey.

How much Japanese shows and Korean videos do watch? And ironically (this is going to sound hypocritical) many people go after what they consider exotic. Asians were a rarity where you lived.

Okay, so if I'm conditioned to like a certain race because they're all around me, and I like the race, then that's your explanation. If I'm not conditioned to like a certain race because they're rarely around me, and I like that race, that's your explanation. So a lose-lose situation? Also, I watch next to nothing like Japanese shows, Korean videos, etc. I'm extremely out of touch with any Asian culture. But an Asian-American or Asian guy's going to put me into a tizzy.
