... I might just need to get used to it, but I don't like it in yellow at all xD

Dang it! Woke up, saw an article about ARR screenshots, see that the author wrote: "final beta phase this weekend," hype through the roof, read the comments telling him otherwise, die a little inside. Can never trust anyone ever again after my emotions have been played with like that.

I much prefer their XI look but I couldn't explain exactly why.

Edit to clarify: Elvaan
Their movements and animations were cool and seemed to have a lot of effort put into them.

The FFXIV animations are all the same. No more special Taru backflip or Elvaan G. Katana holding. A little disappointing since the emotes have been done so well. Wish they had redirected some of that effort towards combat animations.

They'll probably bundle the PS4 version with the first expansion pack.

Probably too soon for that, since they've been talking about expansions running on a 12-18 month timeframe. I agree that'd make it easier to justify purchasing, but they're talking about the PS4 version coming out next Spring, and thats just too early for a full expansion.

I figure the Galka numbers are a little inflated due to the new females, which some people apparently like.

What's the deal with Migardsormr? That was my original FFXI server, and it's the highest in the polling.

That sucks. I noticed the puglist abilities were similar across races, but I didn't know all the animations were similar. I always enjoy custom animations in MMOs and FFXI had some good ones.

So is yellow Carby the tank? Since blue Carby is the lv4 mage one. Somewhat weird since the leak said their names were Ruby for blue and Diamond for the lv15, it just doesn't match the colors.

Also, this is the picture that needed to be posted:

I wish SE would change the standing position and running animations of the male hyur Highlanders, its terrible and kind of looks feminine.

If we're talking about the same leak, that leak is pretty old. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the skills/spell names were changed around quite a bit since then.

The blue one is Emerald, and the yellow one is Topaz http://jp.finalfantasyxiv.com/blog/post/499

Well an emerald is usually green and a topaz can be any color, so I guess the name/color relation doesn't matter.

Right, so the only thing for sure is that Emerald is the first you learn, dps most likely. Could there be a healer Carbuncle besides the tank one? If so, which one is this Topaz?

Yay got my new vid card. GTX760, coming from an AMD 5850.

I'm ready!

Would I be missing out on much if I played this game on PS3? I don't really want to lug out my desktop to play a game that I could play on my already set up console.

Honestly, as long as your okay with a couple slowdowns (although I get them on PC in crowded areas also) and lower res, the only thing you will be missing out on is user created mods down the road.

do you think my 60 gigabyte old fat ps3 is going to be able to survive this game?

survived mine. this is game is actually pretty easy on the system. it doesn't come close to system killers like Naughty Dogs games. i wouldn't worry too much if your room isn't a desert in the current climate.

I don't think so.

I just plugged the USB dongle from my Logitech wireless keyboard into my PS3 and it worked great.

I actually like the Gamepad controls, even though the number of skill slots is technically less than the PC.

Quick question for the FFXIV 1.0 vets:

I never finished all of the 1.0 mainline story quests and wasn't able to log on for the final moments of 1.0. So I've been looking for videos or something that can explain the whole story of 1.0 before ARR begins. I found this line of videos:

http://youtu.be/1zk4UCp5dnI

Has anyone watched these videos? Are they representative of the entire story? Is there a better resource to get the whole story of 1.0?

THANKS!

Yeah, that channel has all the 1.0 story cutscenes, the only ones I think it doesn't have are the class and jobs quests cutscenes.

Thanks for the reply. I found another channel that has the class and job quest cutscenes. Are those directly related to the main story? How do they relate?

They are basically side-quests that expand on the lore, world, etc. Nothing related directly to the Echo, Imperials or Dalamud, however they are still interesting since they show more of what the world was.

A little confused by the post to the JP site. What is a Carby?

Epic pic BTW.... dat tail...

Carbuncle is the Arcanist class, summon pet.

Check this link for general info on what Final Fantasy's Carbuncle is.

Thanks again! I will watch all of it.

I think Summoners should get these "lesser" summons rather than Egis. If they want to keep Ifrit and Shiva and stuff as big god things that can't be controlled then fine. But just like having Carbuncle and Fairy (is that Sylph?) they can have like Cu Sith and Seraph and Fenrir and these other less iconic ones for Summoners.

Is anyone thinking of incorporating the naming lore into your character name? I'll be running two Hell guard Roegadyn and I think I'll try it. At least for the last name.

Not until (or if) you intend on grouping or raiding in a situation where a voice chat program or peripheral is required.

The Scholar's Fairy is just that, a Fairy. This is a Sylph:

I think it could have been interesting to summon the primals' servants or something, like you said.

Ramuh -> Ixion, Titan -> Fenrir, etc.

Oh well.

ARR plays slightly different to XI, and voice chat at endgame will be much more helpful than just text chat.

I'm in the beta, and I understand what you're saying.

I wouldn't be shocked if there is a large anti-PS3 crowd (much like PS2 and FFXI) until the PS4 version comes out, especially since it's easy to root out who is playing on a PS3 because their PSN name is shown when you examine them.

Well I was able to play through TLoU with just loud fan so that's good to hear. Just need it to tide me over until the PS4 release.

How is that any different than FFXI? I played on 360 during most of my time with FFXI, and never had an issue. However, when we did Dynamis, Sky, Sea, etc. I would grab my laptop for voice chat. Was voice chat better? Of course. Did I feel I was really missing out, or limited without voice chat? Not at all.

You've made it clear you're very much against the console versions of this game. We get it. You can lay off a bit now.

Because of the pacing and style of FFXI's combat, voice chat was not really a requirement in most cases. FFXIV ARR is significantly faster and with much less time to type in between actions. But we don't know how they will be designing the later fights and whether it will be similar to other MMOs where voice makes coordination significantly easier to the point of voice being required to efficiently clear content.

Compared to back then I think it is more feasible now for someone to have access to a laptop or even a tablet where you could have next to you and use for voice chat. Most endgame guilds want to use voice chat, I don't particularly like listening or talking to some people over the internet to be honest, and was quite hesitant to use it last year, but in the end it just makes everything much easier than having to rely on the text chat.

I still don't understand the disconnect between the developers being strongly against voice chat included in the client, and players who plan on using a peripheral program like ventrilo anyway. All they are doing is forcing an inconvenience on PS3 players who might raid the end-game. I feel like it does more harm than good.

Huh? What does the PS3 have to do with anything that -Dog food is delicious- said or that I answered?

Why don't you lay off a bit instead and read what I replied to him just above.

I understand that completely, and I agree that voice chat would be the better option, I just don't think it's a make or break option.

Assume you need a full alliance for some (all?) endgame stuff. Not everyone in that alliance needs to have a voice. It's the main organizers/leaders that bark out the orders and tell people what to do. Most of that happens before the battle even starts. If I'm just one of the "minions" and not in a leadership role, I don't think it hurts the alliance in any significant way if I'm not voice chatting.

It would cause strain to the PS3 (and to the servers) for having to add resources for the voice chat. They simply don't want to constraint that version anymore, nor they want to deal with the hassle it involve keeping their own chat program, servers, etc.

We're talking about the importance of voice chat. You pretty much always have the option to voice chat on PC. You don't have that option on the PS3. Couple that with your many other anti-console comments, and I don't understand where your confusion is coming from.

In two years we all are going to hate the fact this game was on ps3. I already do to be honest. PS2 limited XI and PS3 will limit this game. It probably already has. :'(

I completely agree. And I sincerely hope voice won't be required. I especially hope the community won't be elitist about it and require voice for participants. I'll be playing on PC but I hate voice. I don't want to listen to other people and I definitely don't want to talk.

I'm also going to be playing in a static half-party with a fellow NeoGAF member who will be on PS3. So I sincerely hope voice won't be a barrier in design or community.
