Fighting Games Weekly | July 22-28 | Life's A Beech

Pylons > all

I'm kind of serious though. RTS/MOBA play is 10x more interesting to watch when you want to analyze it because there's just more strategic depth to it. There are more variables, more things to consider, decisions aren't a split-second thing, etc. Building pylons looks boring but it's about as boring as watching guys dance at each other the entire time in AE or two guys throwing fireballs in Marvel from across the screen (that isn't morrigan) until someone runs in with an attack.
I can agree that the strategies behind RTS games are much more evident than FGs.
It's obvious when someone's trying to cheese in SC when they proxy a gateway or something whereas trolling in AE might just look like a bad decision. Also it's easy to see how someone in SC is preparing for a certain thing (like DT rush) whereas in fighting games, even if a player rushes in to get the other player to burn meter, the player's true intent is difficult to figure out.

Doesn't stop people from enjoying boxing :P

I can't get into RTS/MOBA play because the conflict is minimal compared to fighting games. They're a blast to play, but I can't enjoy them as a spectator. The heat just isn't there. Also, part of my enjoyment of spectating is watching the decisions people make. As a spectator for these games, I can only see part of what everyone does.

High level Starcraft can be pretty good to watch. A lot of games are a neverending series of small skirmishes all over the map, with players frequently pulling their forces back to regroup. Good commentary goes a long way to helping spectators keep up with all the strategic moves the players are making.

Boxing is more like Esports while MMA is more like FGC. Boxing, people there are in their seats all the time, all nice and proper while MMA everybody goes nuts over every little thing and it's a much more lively atmosphere.

I can't spectate a game where everything isn't on the screen at once. Shit's too hard to keep track of.

Boxing's just one of these things that I'd love to do, but hate to watch. My dad loves boxing though haha.

Someone from the FGC said they went to an MLG event and kept getting shushed because they were trying to get hype for Starcraft lol.

and they desperately want Capcom fighting games there. The Starcraft crowd would get owned so bad

MMA guys actually play fighting games too. I know BJ Penn plays SF. Not sure if he plays SFIV but he does play SF2 and he's better than your average person.

What the hell is going on with the VxG stream? It sounds like bifuteki is packing it up for real....

(and I honestly think I could do a better job running a stream, holy crap -- but then I start remembering how streaming events sucks. :p )

Fighting games are like the NFL in that there's a whole realm of strategy and mind games that can be completely overlooked in favor of watching people get hit.

It seems like there were some money matches planned to stream but they didn't quite materialize.
