I am kind of torn on this subject. On the other hand Phil Fish really makes himself look immature - he is over-reacting and throwing a tantrum upon the very industry that gave him his recognition and millions in money. Should he just cool down, take a hard look at his ( public ) behavior, and resume the production of FEZ 2? Yes. Nothing is worth shooting down the creative project you are passionate about - including possible criticism - but he is doing it out of spite. Too bad. But then again, he is - in my view - a creative genius ( FEZ is one of the best games of this generation as far as I am concerned ), and gifted artists can sometimes have infuriating personalities. Van Gogh, as a quick example, wasn't the most stable person of his time, but he had a unique, visionary style ( of painting ) that has inspired generations of artists. Picasso wasn't the most pleasant person either, but he was a revolutionary in the creative scene. This, of course, is based on what I have read, but I believe these accounts to be real. I'm not directly comparing Fish to these artists, mind you, but you get the general gist of my idea.
It is, of course, always pleasant to hear that an artist you admire ( or somebody who is very famous ) is down to earth and a good person all-around. George Clooney is an example - I actually have a friend who worked with him in a movie ( he had a small part and a few scenes with him ), and so I have first-hand account confirming what is being generally said of him: that he is a good and humble guy. Very professional, too. But it really shouldn't matter - what you see on the movie-screen or on your computer should be the only thing you criticize and / or worry about. For me, FEZ is a masterpiece, and I couldn't care less what Phil's personality is like when it comes to my enjoyment of the actual game. It's, of course, a shame to realize that there will ( probably ) be no FEZ 2 because of his temperament. But then again, it isn't my concern.
Sorry for the long-winded post, though. One tangent lead to another, and there you go.
