Marcus was right. I did not like how Blow and Fish publicly reacted to journalist queries.

Sure, he could have been more considerate, but that's him. I like him because he is honest and wont back down.

Yeah but the Annoyed Gamer is the Annoyed Gamer. He's got his quirks.

Phil Fish is just embarrassing. He's hardly professional at all.

they're both making asses of themselves
yeah big difference is that besides being an ass phil fish actually made a good game whilst annoyed gamer is just an ass

You could say that he doesn't need to be really professional. He works for himself. And the quality of his last game highlights his talent. One of the best games of 2012.

Beer on the other hand....what exactly has he contributed to the industry. Apart from pretending to be pissed off in front of a camera.

I'm not depressed because of Fish, but I keep reading responses that label social ineptitude as a problem or a reason why he's a shitty person. And I just keep thinking, oh....that's how most people think of introverts.

Stop projecting broduski. Phil Fish is no introvert. He's the opposite. He literally cannot shut the fuck up on Twitter, and is openly rude to people on a regular basis, in person and online. He's an extroverted kind of jerk.

People feel sorry for him? He's an adult and he's acting like a fucking baby. Who cares if he was a jerk or not, he's acting like a spoiled brat right now.

If I told you to kill yourself over me disagreeing with your behaviour are you honestly saying there's nothing wrong with that behaviour and you wouldn't feel anything by it?

Disagreeing with me and insulting me repeatedly are two different things. If you were repeatedly insulting me in public and I chose to react I would absolutely try to ensure that my response is more hurtful to you than yours was to me, in order to both put an end to it and to replace embarrassment/self-consciousness with satisfaction/gratification.

Dude, I don't know exactly what your problem is, but hear this.

I'm an introvert, and I've learned to deal with it. I can be an asshole sometimes, and make people angry at me. You know what you do? You apologize, and explain where you're coming from.

People don't like Phish, and I don't like him too. I can see where he's coming from but there's no excuse to just be an asshole and never feel sorry about it.

Phish has his issues, you have your own. People don't like his, that doesn't mean people want you off the face of the Earth too. Now, go relax someplace else then come back here.

Surly the company he's with should try and ban him from social media sites.
Especially when its to do with work.

This isn't exactly a good reputation to have.

He will be back when he realizes that in any other profession, people will be calling out his unprofessionalism on a daily basis and he will come back to game development.

so marcus beer is allowed to shit on the blowfish but they're not allowed to fire back?

the media and the gamers shouldn't get involved in their petty meaningless fights, but we keep on giving them hits

Beer calls them out on being whiny attention seekers, goes a little overboard calling them hipster tosspots. Phil Fish tells the guy to kill himself.

I mean, I'm sure you've become so well acquainted with the Devil's Advocate you're on board the Event Horizon right now watching peoples skin get torn off, but come on now lad.

I've never particularly disliked Phil and I love his game. I don't think he ever learned any stress coping skills though. I know he's been through some shit at the hands of games but man if it's really that bad just disconnect and take a long vacation.

I'm sad to see him go. I thought Fish could be a little over the top, but I was mostly a fan. And we could use more games like Fez.

A crowning achievement for Marcus Beer no doubt.

The games media we deserve indeed.

There are two parties involved in this mess. One is Marcus, without question. The other is Phil, who failed to show any kind of professionalism and instead exacerbated the situation.

Marcus didn't make Phil walk away-- if that's, in fact, what he's doing. Phil made that decision on his own, and his actions (past and present) are at least partially responsible for what's transpired here.

It does seem like the only people who actually feel sorry for him or are defending him are those that have a bit of hero worship going on. Take any random person unfamiliar with Fez or the persons involved and explain the entire situation... I can't imagine they'd feel sorry for Phil Fish.

I saw Fez as an innovative work of genius. The fact that it even got released is miraculous in itself, as Phil got shat on from the get-go by ex-partner Jason De-Groot, who milked Fish for a fuck-ton of money that he didn't truly deserve. Imagine that happening to you for a moment...being screwed out of HALF of your earnings for all of the long hours, personal sacrifices, and passion you put into making YOUR game.

So no question, Phil was bitter from the beginning...and IMO with good reason. The fact that he tended to open his mouth when he probably shouldn't have or reacted the wrong way in certain situations is no doubt questionable behavior, and has led to the snowball he's in now. But it's all rooted in that seperation, and you can see a ton of Phil's angst from that in the Indie Game documentary.

It feels like Phil took all of his business frustrations out on the critical public eye, which is likely his biggest mistake.

Yeah it's not ok or fine to tell someone to kill themselves under any normal circumstances (especially if meant as a actual threat), one implies some anger management issues and lack of understanding of the gravity of some insults. It's why people you see or hear people use the phase think they need some mental help

hero worship? you mean liking the guy?

FUCK. D:

FEZ was one of my favorite games this generation.
I actually liked Phil Fish, even if he was a bit crazy.
Man, I'm actually really disappointed. :(

So Fish is saying this is the result of a long campaign of abuses?

The media/GAF conspiracy strikes again. I hope he finds happiness in his future endeveaours, so long as that does not mean making immflammatory remarks on the Internet.
