Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - Beta Phase 3 Impression: Phase 4 August

Good to see that they're taking a couple different steps to fix the issue. It should at the very least be somewhat improved in the next phase. :)

You must be the runt of the Miqo'te litter if your eyesight is bad enough that you think a Lalafell's height only reaches your shin.

I can't place too much blame on your height deficiency, but had you been just a bit taller you could have seen that I never once rolled a miqo'te.

This thread is cyclical, like many big threads on GAF.

At least once every 10 pages, there will be a debate about:
- PS3 vs. PC
- new server vs. Legacy server
- 1.x combat vs. ARR combat
- F2P vs. subscription
- will MRD or GLD be a better tank

I think that's it, unless we have another recurring topic I missed?

You missed some of the best ones!

- "I bought 1.0 [whatever edition] but stopped playing. Do I have to rebuy this?"
- "If I get game on [X system] can I play my character on [Y system]?"
- "I got in the beta but i only get black screen??"
- "Is this game good?"
- "Game is too slow I quit before introductory cut scenes ended"

I think it's perfectly normal to have questions, though, and people around here are nice enough to answer them for the nth time. There's no FAQ yet, and browsing through a huge thread like this one can be bothersome. The OT will address most if not all of the recurring questions.

I agree; I've lurked this thread literally since Page 1, and wouldn't expect others to sift through the whole thing for answers. I'm not trying to be harsh, just having fun with the quoted topic ^_^

Seriously tho: mad props to you guys who straightforwardly answer the same questions as they arise, without any condescension or frustration. MAD props: you are those who make the Internet awesome.

Gonna have fun with the character creator. Hopefully I'll be able to quickly load up my character data and make some tweaks. If not, I have some screenshots to work off of.

My only concern really, is height. During both phase 2 and 3, I tried to aim for slightly above average, only to end up a bit short compared to a lot of the NPC's. Problem there I think, is that it can be difficult to gauge relative height in a character creator. You would need other characters standing side by side for that.

Speaking of re-answering questions... :)

I bought an EU collector's edition since the NA ones seemed to be sold out everywhere I looked. I read that I would not be able to register my game using my NA account and would have to make an EU account.
Only issue I have with this is potentially having to always convert from dollars to euros when paying, and also having to get EU versions of expansions etc.

I'm considering just buying a regular NA digital copy of the game, but was wondering if I would be able to redeem my collector's edition in game items on the NA account. (Hoping those codes aren't region bound..)

I know it's kinda hard to know whether that would work until people are actually able to start redeeming codes, but was wondering if anyone had heard something about this? :(

PS: I'm new to GAF. Been lurking in this thread for a bit and am really happy to see how helpful everyone is.

Meh.
Good the ridicolous part is fixed, but checks every 0.3 seconds on evading is still 0-300ms, which are randomly added to input\server lag.. meh.

0.3s is much, much better than the almost 1.5s delay I had. I want to try it out before dismissing it as 'meh'.

Pretty sure 0.3 seconds is just the interval in which the server stores every player position to calculate lag correction, so is not really 0.3 + input/server lag.

The game synces your client side info and the server info to reduce lag impact. Is used in almost any decent multiplayer game these days.

I think I'm gonna have to go with Elf in retail. No one wants to play them and they're so nice looking. =O

I'm tempted to make one (though IRL I'm nowhere near tall) just because they're pretty rare compared to Miqo'te and Lalas. That and I want to prove they can look cool.

I wonder if trophies can be unlocked in phase 4. Probably not. But how would that work if you continue playing with the same character at release?

I'm going Elezen because... I just have to. Even rolled Elvaan in XI, so you know I'm srs bsns.

::useful chart::

Sweet this is good presentation. I leaned toward Duskwight last time I checked these stats, and this reaffirms it. Even if I'm probably going to move into ARC, their stats seem pretty balanced out of the gate compared to other races (& especially to their Wildwood kin). Not like it matters longterm
but...

Well, GAF did me the courtesy of answering my questions when I had them, so I feel like it's only fair to return the favor.

Has this flickr already been posted before? Awesome pictures.
Oh my glob! That's so cool! I can't wait to see Kodama's ARR stuff!

Use this for reference!

Oh, thanks. I'd seen that before, but it didn't click to use that as a reference until you mentioned it.

Wow, didn't realize how small Miqo'te males were in comparison to some of the other races. Not a deal breaker, but since I'm Tanking most of the time, having a little actual height seems fitting.

From the current draft of the OT:

The races have different starting attributes, but these differences quickly become negligible. It is better to pick a race for aesthetic reasons, as characters are more likely to use multiple classes. (The same can be said for one's patron deity.)

To put it in perspective: These stat differences do not increase as characters gain levels. Even a single piece of artifact armor (a relatively mediocre armor set) gives something like +16 to an attribute. The only differences that should even be somewhat considered are between the races with -3 and +3 within one attribute. There is something like a 90 HP difference between Dunesfolk and Sea Wolves at level 50. As a tank, that is probably like... 1/40th of your health or less?

Then consider... characters don't have "a" class, they have classes. No matter how much you like the idea of being a Warrior, when this character is still being played three years down the line, you may just end up being a Black Mage too. The race will stay the same though, emotes and all.

Lalafell tank disapproves...

Not sure if you can redeem your EU codes on a NA account, but if you are only interested in the digital items you could just upgrade your standard version digitally for 20$.

That's a nice chart, but people shouldn't make their characters based on these stats. A difference of 6 points from top to bottom race, won't have any impact at level 50 when your main stat should be (with good gear) way over 400.

And I'm not even mentioning after a level cap raise, that will make that 6 points difference even more insignificant.

If the tank is smaller, it's easier for your party to see the mob!

Well, it's just resyching every 0.3 seconds. I guess before it would never resync so if you were out of sync with the server it wouldn't matter how many miles away from the red circle you were.

The other thing that your gonna get from this solution is rubber banding but that's part and parcel with all multiplayer games when you or the server are lagging.

Yeah, I agree. I'm going to make a lala tank, so I don't care much either. But I thought it was nice to see the differences between the races, so I posted it.

It could be helpful to chose the sub-race, though.
