It's open, in so much as there aren't any quota's or anything like that. There's still a registration period, which has ended, but hopefully they'll open up registration again when they open the beta.

You can't dance in an MMO without a character, silly!
No, Primal summons are basically a consumable item which drops from beating them, anyone can use them, only one can exist on a server at one time and once it is used it goes back into the loot pool.
Summoners Limited break will be the same as Black Mage and Scholar will be the same as White mage.

The Roegadyn naming conventions is the biggest reason why I'm choosing Hellsguard as well.
That and they look awesome with a full beard.I would like one!

If I understand it correctly, there is no character progression after finishing the story or hitting lvl.50. You dont get any new skills or traits for ending content. The only progress you make is only via better gear. Is that correct?
Yup, until expansion or they add more jobs or skills maybe.

About maps, are we going to see an improved map in phase 4 and launch?
The map in phase 3 was pretty bad, especially when you "zoomed" out.
Awesome, it took me a while getting used to the world map, this will make things easier by a lot
Anyway, how big is the world map compared to other MMO? i only know FFXIV from this beta so i have no idea about the other areas

I am so ready for phase 4. Sitting around bored as fuck. No other game is holding my attention.
We can expect changes to the PS3 map, but the PC version worked without problems.
Just so you know, there will be 2 more regions, Coerthas and Mor Dhona added for the next beta/official release, which will be of comparable size as the other three.

They're adding quest markers to zone lines if the quest objective is in another zone and filter options for map icons.
Legacy characters can't be moved from their current servers, there was a transfer campaign this month but it was only to move to other legacy server.
If there are any new servers besides the ones in phase 3 it's unknown yet.

Okay, today has been confirmed that there will be no character benchmark for PS3.
My plan, is to create a character on PC with the benchmark and when I have a perfect one start a new game with the saved character in phase 4. This will save my character on the server I choose, no?
Then I can continue playing on PS3. Seems doable?

No way. I still have games out the ass on my backlog to play!
You'd need to create the character in phase 4 on PC and play them on PS3.
The saved characters from character creation are stored locally, not on the server.
So do I, I'm just working through most of them after dark. Summer is too short for me to not utilize it. Conversely, winters here are too harsh for me to do things like, get in bicycle rides.
Besides, a little natural light never killed anyone.
