I lost intrest in FF for sure, but preorder charts in germany suggest it's not dead yet.
Not gonna have enough health to sustain the unblockable next turn.Wired is correct. Final Fantasy is dead.
XV will be the Phoenix Down.
I still can't believe they were showing CG masquerading as gameplay at E3 for FFXV.
SE has learned nothing.
These two are fantastic games and believing they've done anything to the brand is ignorance.
What is it with people trying to lump X and VIII into Square's current issues?

They lost me at the part where they failed to acknowledge Final Fantasy XII.
Goto and Toriyama were talking about Lightning's cup size and jiggle because they were asked about it in that interview. They didn't bring it up.
Chris also states: "But if in 2013 this is what a Q&A session about Final Fantasy has become, then any claim that the series once had something approaching mainstream respectability done gone and caught the train out of town." He's using one interview and casting a very wide judgement about the franchise because of it. Meanwhile, there are literally dozens of perfectly normal, non-boob-centric interviews about Lightning Returns, Final Fantasy XIV, XV, etc.
Concludes with: "At this point, its tough to see a path back to relevance for Final Fantasy, if the caretakers of the series are spending their creative cycles thinking about the particulars of breast physics." Yes, I'm sure all they are thinking about are breast physics. They go into work every day, work 12 hour days and do nothing but think about breast physics. Give me a break.
This is a poorly thought out, inaccurate hit piece based on someone who got all flustered a dev dare talk about sexuality of the characters in his video game when asked about it. I expect way more from Chris.
Do you know how ignorant you sound? The framework of the remake would be laid out sure but they would still have to put a considerable amount of time reworking the entire game's narrative to make it fit in the compilation of VII, recreate a new battle system, recreate how the progression for the game works due to the changed narrative, rewrite lines, etc. It's a lot more than you think.
Eh, we'll see. The Final Fantasy games will always have the Japanese markets to propel them, but one of the greater long term issues is that the series' faltering relevance in the west. It'll be interesting to see how XV does on neophyte systems as opposed to the XIII series existing primarily on mature hardware, where certain gameplay precedents had been set in stone. It might actually help the series to participate in the early run of the generation, provided it can make it to 2014 or 2015.If by "every Final Fantasy after XIII," you mean a sequel and an MMO, I don't think that's a comparison that we can draw any conclusions from.
Because, evidently, that is what is vital to a Final Fantasy game nowadays. So why exactly are they increasing Lightning's breast size?
Is pretty clear that years and years of bad management, flops like XIV 1.0 and relying in Toriyama and his team to keep relevant the saga has done lot of damage to the brand.
But the real problem here is: the target audience FF aims is no longer the same west FF fans belong now. Lots of people grew with FF games but no longer the themes and the arstyle resonate with them, we need more maturity in themes, designs that aren't offensive to our eyes, they need to look to the Dark Souls games and see how it's done (DS success is partially in how well it blended western fantasy with their own japanese touch).
FF XV seems a decent step forward (people cries about their emo style, but at least is nothing offensive like Vanille design) and seems to embrace slightly more mature themes, But still is not enough, they either still cather to the lingering japanese fans or they try to conquer the 25-35 year old market that grew with FF, becuse the teen market in the west belongs to COD and others, FF benefitted from a time were anime was in the rise and managed to become very popular, but that's no longer the case.
Just for perspective, what about XIII-2 did you like?

Yeah, thinking more on it, it's just nuts. Even if the game has only really been in full development since 2011 like Famassu loved to claim (repeatedly, though Famassu is banned now I think?), that's still embarrassing.Which makes people claiming XV will save the series appear all the more hilarious.
Yes, they are.I do not argue that they are good games. But are they good Final Fantasy games? I'm merely pointing to how the brand betrayed its style in favor of generic anime trends. There was a time when NO game looked or felt like a Final Fantasy game. Now we're stuck with teenage go-getter male stereotypes and melodramatic jailbait female leads to the tune of J-Pop themes, just like any other JRPG. There is no denying the trend those games set.
VIII does not have major plot-holes. The battle system was thought out however it still needed some tuning. Even then, it has ton's of customization options which makes it very easy to keep fresh when replaying. The only flaw is the draw system which you literally never have to use.Nothing wrong with 10. 10-2 on the other hand....
8 has major plot holes that don't quite come together (unless you decide they don't by filling in the blanks yourself).
Plus the battle system wasn't fully thought out.
That was CG?
WTF
Hype deflated.
My mind, you read it.Dead and beaten to pulp since X for me, while the setting was nice I hated everything about Tidus, from the attitude to the outfit, not mentioning XII, or the train wreck that XIII was with it's future iterations.

Zidane and the whole cast for IX is my last FF worthy of mention, I didn't loved VIII but I can't deny I had good times there.
I have some little hope for (ex Versus) XV since it becoming more a mature (yeah yeah I know) Kingdom Hearts, but I have so little hope in SE for now.
I'm glad about Bravely Default existence tho, and it's only that pushing me in having faith.
The monster training, the paradigm system, the big game hunts, maxing out all the jobs and weapons, the music (keep sound track in my car), loved the graphics, I even liked the 'paradox' endings and the time travel. The only things I really didn't like were some of the ham fisted cameos (Sazh) and Chocolina's voice.
I don't understand why they can't make Bravely Default-level titles in HD available via digital download? That kind of aethetic is perfect for remakes of VII-IX as well as older entries.
Welcome to reality.

X was really excellent.
X-2 is a travesty.

This is gameplay right.....RIGHT?

Paradigm system might as well have been non-existent. The game didn't force you to use paradigms at all with the exception of the final boss. Why have a system in place if the game doesn't encourage you to use it?
Well, it’s been a long time coming, but I think I’m gonna call it: Final Fantasy is dead.
Huh? Just a remake of the game with updated graphics/sound is the bare bones of what's required and they will sell truck tons and at the same time give their customers what they want. The lightning is already there.
It's all about the based Yoshi-P right now!In Nomura we trust!
In Shimomura we trust!
I used the hell out of it, I guess I played it wrong.
Think more... CG. lol.
That hes right?
14 bombed once. Its already a hard sell for any MMO let alone one with the same name as one of the biggest debacles in the history of the genre. The fact they chose to sink more money into that game rather than writing it off was telling in a lot of ways.
When was this discussed, I must have missed it. Even the gameplay? it looked plausible.
