So I turned Ambient Occlusion off, while leaving all other settings at their Maximum defaults and running the benchmark at 1920x1200, this was the result:

With AO: 6640 and 54.720 fps

Without AO: 7864 and 66.908 fps

So you might as well leave AO ON, right?

In my particular case and for anyone with similar and better rigs, yes. But that wasn't the point. AO hurts performance greatly and having it off doesn't really impact the game as much as turning shadows off for example

I keep swearing that I'll go the whole, watercooling route someday. Price and lack of familiarity tends to hold me back, but heaven knows its an attractive solution.

I mean, for starters, running more quietly is a really attractive prospect.

I use the h100i as well, there's probably already someone saying it isn't "real" water-cooling and it isn't, but it is super simple to setup and maintain and it's 100 bucks or less. Plus you get performance numbers within 1-5% of actual water cooling pumps like the Raystorm.

Not sure what your financials are like, but 100 bucks for a plug and play cooling solution is a sweet deal to me.

I don't think I can even try to run the betchmark in Very High without my PC exploding, ahah.

Medium seems to do fine for me, though my PC gets really hot when I have XIV up. :\ Like 90° C hot. Any tips? I got a 2048 MBATI AMD Radeon HD 6570.

Try clearing out as much dust inside the PC as you can. It can make a difference in temp.

AO looks super cool though and you should leave it on unless you absolutely can't for performance reasons.

Well, if I decide I have 100USD to spare, I'd more more likely to buy a AMD FX-6300, (Equivalent to an Intel i5) to replace my aging Phenom 2 X4.

I'd be more interested in water cooling for my GPU, but probably not until I make the jump to having a multi-GPU set-up. I have a pretty good after market heatsink for my CPU already, so better cooling for that isn't quite the priority, (yet.)

I have a non-legacy account from 1.0. From what I understand, this means I will not have to buy the game again, but will I have to pay a monthly fee in order to play on release day?

Also, I'm under the impression that 1.0 accounts do not get access to early access, which is a bummer. Is there any retailer that makes it easy to pre-order (for the early access code) and then immediately cancel?

Two day open beta with one day of down time between it and early access? I don't see that as being likely.

Yeah, I can't imagine they would be able to fix serious bugs within that timeframe. Guess we'll have to wait for the Live Letter to be absolutely sure.

That's just the day registration reopens for Beta, they gave a deadline for registering beta codes and it won't reopen again 'tentatively' till that date, people who registered before then will likely play before that date.

Ohh okay, nevermind then.

Sounds to me like people still shouldn't get too attached to open beta characters then.

Nah, the beta's been really solid.

A "critical game-breaking bug" would be like a money duping glitch or something catastrophic like that, which I think are unlikely to crop up at this point.

So I guess this engine doesn't support refresh rates other than 60 hz?
My monitor switched display mode when the benchmark starts (crt monitor, so I can hear the click and see the black screen)

Also damn the spell effects are really bad for a final fantasy game, whole benchmark makes it look very generic graphically

Will I be able to run this on my PC? (Even if on low)

CPU -Intel Core i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz
RAM - 4GB
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M

Probably. There's a pretty big drop in the requirements even going from, "Max," to, "High." Assuming each drop similarly reduces the strain on the hardware, you should be able to get by on low.

Course, frame rate will depend on what resolution your monitor is running at.

Edit: There's going to be a new benchmark released tonight or tomorrow. Run that, and it should be able to give you a better how well your system can handle it.

Asus laptop, so it has one of those weird resolutions. 1366x768

BTW, I know the release date for that new Benchmark is August 1st, but is that US time, or Japan time? If its Japan time, I might be able to play around with it a bit before bed.

My 6+ year old rig with a GTX 8800 with an old Intel core2duo ran alpha/beta just fine and scores about 4000 on medium settings at 1680x1050, you should be good for playability as long as you don't crank up the settings.

I don't think they can afford any delay at this point.

You're right of course, however Yoshi-P is the kinda guy who will not release the game till it's completely ready. Every talk he's done and every and post online he has made shows this, dude is leaving nothing to chance after the original release. A 2-3 week kickback would not be out of the realm (tee hee) of possibility.

I dont like messing around with OC, I had a friend help me built my pc :) Hopefully with new benchmark we will get a better idea.

Stock OC would be fine for a lot of games but MMOs are different. They benefit greatly from a good OC. Get you're friend to help you out and you can ask around the PC OT here (people are super helpful to beginners). It's a lot easier then you think!

Really looking forward to this beta. I mean, not only to play around with character creation, I'm also hopeful it'll, let people discern, whether the game is single threaded, highly parallel, etc etc and so on and so forth.

Trying to plan out my next computer upgrade around this game, and its kinda hard to do that without knowing what sort of part to be aiming for.

Everyone is suffering from withdrawal.

Yes, but that will end soon. c:

Between Aug1 and whenever Phase 4 starts, I'll have just enough time to decide which race I wanna play. All of them are really cool, but I really just want one main to play (either Fem Hyur-Highlander or Male Lala-Dunesfolk).

You can't put single recipes on a hotbar, right?

After discovering you could do this with gearsets, I tried dragging recipes onto hotbar in phase 3 and nothing happened but you can hotbar your recipe book. Can hardly be called an inconvenience with how good the crafting interface is now, though.
