Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - Beta Phase 3 Impression: Phase 4 August

Gave the benchmark a whirl since I'm interested in giving this game a shot when its ready to go in August. Also it gave me an excuse to get around to OCing the cpu on my new rig since mmos tend to be pretty cpu dependent. Going from stock to 4.3ghz bumped my score about 500 points. All settings at max etc.

Average Framerate:70.559

That's on:

i5-4670K @ 4.3ghz
7970
16GB ram

After discovering you could do this with gearsets, I tried dragging recipes onto hotbar in phase 3 and nothing happened but you can hotbar your recipe book. Can hardly be called an inconvenience with how good the crafting interface is now, though.
Especially if you survived the dark ages of crafting..

Pardon me, but I'm afraid I must hurt you now. XD

That 7970 is crying out for you to OC it. I hear it from here.

I must be doing something wrong...I can't even get my 3770 and 680 to get above 6600...I don't OC though.

Edit: I also can't get the benchmark to run full screen.

I'm sitting here just watching the benchmark instead of playing games on my backlog.

Random observation: during the benchmark, the same "party" is busy traveling around in the world and fighting Ifrit and the Blood Dragon. Dat Static.

You and my both. I mean, I'm just intensely curious about a few things by this point. How much has the engine been polished since that first benchmark? How am I gonna drop my beta character data in there for tweaking? Is this benchmark gonna be any less prone to massive tearing? (vSync gets most of it.)

That, and I don't really need much time to play around with Dust right now, so, bring on the benchmark. (Continues clicking refresh on the internet.)

So, I don't know if this is magic or what. Out of curiosity, I went through my Device Manager and looked at what drivers I could update. It turns out I had never updated the Realtek HD Audio and Ethernet drivers since 2011 or something. So, I updated them to the latest versions, and my benchmark score mysteriously increased. I guess if you have Realtek HD Audio and Ethernet on your motherboard, you could download the latest drivers for them from http://www.realtek.com.tw and install them for free FPS.

I hope to one day match or surpass that score. Who am I kidding, I'd love to get even half of that. Holy shit.

Well, what I'm downloading is called 'FFXIV-ARR-Bench-Character.zip'

Will know soon enough when the download is done.

Ugh, sorry, false alarm. Although that page is labeled, "character creation benchmark." Hitting download brings up the old benchmark. :P

The name of the file I'm downloading currently is FFXIV-ARR-Bench-Character.zip. What are you downloading? A roommate had a similar issue, it was downloading the bench-world.zip, tried in a different browser and it downloaded the bench-character.zip instead. Some sort of cache issue perhaps.

Edit: Ah see you're sorted out.

Yeah, I think because I clicked right the very minute the new bench has gone out, the change hadn't propagated through the entire website just yet.

As I wait for the new bench to download, I was reading the new entries in Locations and Enemies.

I appreciate the Empire having all of the magitek stuff, but when I read "gunhammer", "gunbaghnakhs", and "gunshield"... they might be taking it too far.

So question...but since the spoiler culture is so damned sensitive, this will be behind bars. This has to do with the last fight in 1.23.

Looking at the new "Key Enemies" entry on the official website, it still lists Nael Van Darnus and an enemy and, seemingly, alive.

Um, what? We saw this dude turn into nothingness on screen.

haven't downloaded it yet but...
"""The following equipment options are available for your character when appearing in the benchmark cutscene: starting gear, gladiator gear levels 20-50, or paladin artifact armor."""
from arr beta forums

GTX 670
i5 3570k at 4.2 ghz.

Benchmark is exactly the same as the old one it seems like, just with a character you make in the scenes. Also obviously better optimized as my score is higher than the old one.

Yeah, I've been wondering about this one too.
Though I wouldn't assume he'll remain dead forever, he's a FF villain after all. He could have given his essence and essentially become one with Bahamut for all we know.

The whole Secure and NA S-E sites thing is so confusing.

I was able to register the emailed code when I bought the game, not the pre-order one, to NA.S-E but I had to register the beta code to Secure.S-E.
