Steins;Gate Visual Novel getting US Release on PC

I would like to try this again. I played a little bit of it on 360 but not much.

Hopefully this gets a DRM-Free release.

Oh, so this is why people love this game.
Can never tell if you're serious or not.
Well I have no defence, it's clearly a little thing and obviously anyone who writes it off over a little thing is pretty closed-minded and I'm not saying I wouldn't try it if they didn't fix it... all I can say is that I've heard good things about the game and I would hate it if a stylistic choice contributed, even in a small way, to people not trying it.
It's just a semicolon man.

I've spent the last 12 hours hyperventilating over the announcement. I'm pretty okay with this. The fact that this gets announced right after Kara no Shoujo 2 and Cartagra? Well, shit. Nice to get some more real VNs in the States instead of the typical hentai game crap.

Hopefully this gets a DRM-Free release.

JAST's last Nitro+ game, Saya no Uta, had a DRM free physical release (dunno about the downloadable version), so I imagine the chances of that are pretty good.

Though DRM free does raise the question: is GOG.com a viable outlet for this sort of game? Valve doesn't have much love for the genre, but GOG might be a bit more willing... of course, I imagine a lot of it also comes down to what the Japanese companies involved give JAST the okay to do.

It's good to hear they aren't ruling out Steam, and also that they won't let Steam negotiations delay the release
any longer than usual

Seems like the right strategy. I'm in for the initial physical release, assuming they don't saddle it with any DRM.

Yeah, same here. I already played the fan translation, but I look forward to supporting an actual localization.

As good as the anime is, the visual novel equivalents are even better(it just takes a lot longer to get there).

Never did finish this. I could swear there was some sort of controversy with the fan translation and one of the people involved pretty much sold the work other people had done? This was way back so I could be wrong, maybe it's not the same person involved in the translation.

EDIT;

Found something...

The animu was very watchable, and I would watch it again. The VN was mostly boring but I had been marathoning VN's for like 9-12 hours a day for a month by the time I got around to it so that might've been a factor. I found for the most part nothing of interest 'happened' more often than not, it was mostly just dribble about nothing in particular with extremely cliched animu characters (though they are adults IIRC?), however bloated VN's isn't limited to Steins, it's more like a trademark of the medium which sucks in my opinion.

A summary of JAST's latest updates on Twitter:
- There will be a package version and a downloadable version, plus a version with extras.
- Base price will be $39.95.
- Preorders will open around the end of August, and extras will be announced at that time.
- Steam is still being discussed, but they'll do their own release first so we can play the game ASAP.

More like so they can sell it at a premium price first before they (try to) bring it to Steam at a reduced price.

Not that I'm complaining, it's only logical.

Well, as far as I know, they do have to get approval from the Japanese companies for a Steam release. And those companies might have to be convinced by sales numbers.

I wonder what the extras will be! I need something to go with my future gadget lie detector that came with my 360 Limited Edition.

On one hand I want the extras package to be awesome, but on the other hand that will also make it more expensive. This is tough.. and it doesn't seem like I can wait if I wanna get it, either.

Regarding these types of things, how long can I predictably wait? Will it go up or down in price, will the same thing apply for the normal packaged version? I'm clueless about localized VN releases.

Unless I'm mistaken, JAST hasn't put anything up on Steam. So it's likely they might have to go through Greenlight as well, and we all know how "great" that system is. -_-

They usually stay the same price for a long while and they either drop in price years later and get bundled with something or maintain it. Only scenario I see it raising in price is if a version of the game goes out of print. (First Edition versions with extras.)

Considering that Higurashi just made it through Greenlight, S;G would probably get through in a week.

Tempted
But I can wait for the digital copy

By download edition, does that mean Steam is included? I know the publisher is looking for a Steam release, but it hasn't been confirmed yet I believe...

Steam release isn't happening at launch, it's something that might come later. So no, it's a non-Steam digital download.

neat that you get a code with limited too. Was just gonna say that i haven't had a dvd drive in my desktop pc for about 4 years.

who needs that shit?
