Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One

And what ps4 exclusives are you excited about? Because I really see nothing that is compelling, especially stacked up with the xb1 launch titles.
I'm not going to de-rail this thread by talking about why I like Sony over Xbox. Pointless sorry.

Guys, the "why aren't you buying an XBO?" stuff is a bit much. If the guy wants to get a PS4, let him.

Not everyone needs good games to justify their console purchase.

Oh sorry, I forgot it's a rule that every Xbox One game thread is required to have "would buy on PC or PS4" post. Carry on then.

Infinite Ammo is posting very smartly. I think you'll do well here!

There may be some more enticing Xbox One exclusives at launch (that we know of) but there's also some philosophy at work behind me not getting an Xbox immediately such as how Microsoft has been handling things and the changes they were trying to make which were just putrid, and I'm still not convinced that they're going to stick to their word.

I also don't necessarily buy a console for its launch lineup or even its current slew of games-- if a company establishes personal goodwill with me like Sony and Nintendo has, I'm more inclined to buy their stuff. Microsoft has did the exact opposite for me. Regardless of games, it's difficult for me to support a company that is doing so many things that I disagree quite vehemently with.

However, with the backtracking on those policies and some of the apparent restaffing that's been going on, it seems like they're trying and that's never a bad thing. Not turning this into a console war thread, but I think I'm trying to get at where Infinite Ammo is coming from, how regardless of launch lineup that there's more to buying a $500 product than just that.

Don't see issue with someone liking KI but not wanting to get an Xbox for it, it's just one game, I didn't get PS3 for LBP.

brandonh83 You're going way too off topic though ....

Probably. But I'm seeing where the guy is coming from and I do think there's more to buying a console than just for the games.

The game is looking great, but I'm still not sure how it works-- this is free for Gold members?

It's how you say it. "hate the xbone" is really not a great idea to post in a Xbox One exlusive game thread - but I guess it's ok to say those things lately :/

No it has a glorified demo with Jago and a full version for a cheaper than normal price yet to be revealed (Gamescom)

Meh, if it annoys you take pleasure in their salty tears from not getting the game? :P

Weird. Will there be a retail version?

Really? WOW, that's .......... sad, to say the least.

Not really sad and it's been addressed plenty of times by dare I say millions of people in the last few months, but I'm getting away from this as it's too off topic.

It's not weird, it's pretty clever, getting the game out there to everyone is a great way to get noticed.

There might be eventually but nothing announced yet.

I think it's a neat way to get it noticed, definitely. I just hope there's a retail version as I like physical media. :p

Not for launch, maybe later according to Ken Lobb.

That sucks. Guess I'll get to at least play around as Jago until that happens. I just don't buy digital versions of "full" games, I like having a physical library.

So do I. The only reason I think there won't be a retail version at launch is because it's only going to launch with like 10 characters, and then over the course of the next year we'll get another 10+ and it'll be a big enough game for retail.

Hence we're getting it for a cheaper price, because it won't launch with as many characters as it perhaps should.

No, this is exactly why you buy consoles. Preferring one multinational corporation over another multinational corporation shouldn't enter into the equation at all. Sony said hugely stupid thing at the beginning of the last console cycle but I still bought their console.

If you disagreed with the Xbox One DRM stuff that's fine, but it's gone now, no reason to hold a grudge.

Just remember, all corporations want one thing, to make money from you.

That stream is ineed great quality, I am noticing so much more in the animations - like I never noticed Sabrewulfs backflip attack before. I guess that's why I thought his Ultra is new too. Also his stage is my favourite for sure.

Not really a huge fan of this releasing bits of a game at a time but that'll likely go off topic again so I'll steer clear of it and just say that it'll be interesting to see how that pans out.

I wonder what the learning curve of this game will be. I was pretty good at the original but I'm awful at fighting games now. I'll go pick up Street Fighter IV or MVC3 or Blaz and I may as well represent that meme of that dog sitting at the computer.

I'm PM'ing you with a reply. :)

Being hypocritical here carrying on this convo, but you're both right. Not choosing a console because of the DRM fiasco is silly, but there is more to choosing a console than just games. Price, controller, OS, what your friends have. Even stuff like smartglass and Vita. It's not solely games anymore.

In this case I don't think it's a bad idea, double helix are really listening to the community, so I think we'll have some input on what new characters, stages and features they work on.

That and I'm glad I have this to play at launch! Soooo frigging hyped.

I'm getting an XB1 mostly because of Crimson Dragon but also because MS have me a fucking terrific gen with the 360. But I don't get in people's face about it because they are allowed to not like the stuff I like.

No, you are correct, these should definitely be considerations when choosing between one console or the other, just not so much if you're able to buy both consoles. I guess I was more making that point that it's silly to say "I would buy that console for the games but I don't like MS". If you're a gamer you buy consoles for games, end of story.

While you may not be a fan of the executives of a corporation there are plenty of developers who genuinely care about making great games and pleasing their customers. Forget the suits, play the games.

Thought I'd pop back and say a colleague at work and a good friend of mine is going to let me have a nice long hands on with this game because he knows I'm a fan of the series.

Who knows... if it's as fun as it looks I may just give in and be a filthy hypocrite by being less close minded. I appreciate the responses some of you have put across :) somebody asked me if I'd tried the new D-Pad admittedly I have not... you may have just opened my eyes and stopped me missing out on a great game.

Apologies for de-rail.

Is there just one character they're revealing at Gamescom? If so, I'm thinking we will get a new level or arena revealed as well.

I thought as much.

It's impressive how this is the most hyped exclusive right now. A great lesson to people who always think the worst.

Before E3 and after MS announced a return of a historic Rare franchise, Killer Instinct was near the bottom with Battletoads. But after seeing everything they've done so far, only Banjo and Viva would I want more.

I just hope they apply this kind of treatment and respect to other Rare Ip, say PD or Banjo. It's proof all you need is the right approach and team to bring back an old series.

Xbox needs an iconic platformer.

Hopefully Banjo is in the cards.

I'm not doing anything wrong lol, I'm really not an Xbox guy... and I prefer my fighting games on a playstation pad.

I can't justify the cost for just one game... maybe two or three at a push.

Yea sorry about that, mate.

I assumed your aversion to the X1 was just policy/kinect based. If KI was the only X1 game I was interested in, it'd be a tough sell for me as well.

so is anyone else concerned about this game being unfinished? They are revealing characters so slowly that at this pace we'll have like 5 at launch. The scary thing is that I feel like they're revealing them as they complete them, meaning the game development is still very early.

That's a concern, but I think I'm a bit more concerned about the staggered release schedule resulting in tons and tons of Jago players to the extent where it even tops SFIV's Ken-fest at launch.

But hey, we'll see how it goes. When I watch videos of this, it just looks awesome. Hopefully the bean-counters don't limit its potential.

The characters we're getting are not complete except for maybe Jago, and even he might be adjusted a bit before launch. Keep in mind it takes a lot of fine-tuning to balance a fighting game.

I'm sure DH has a majority (if not all) of the character models done. The attack animations are also probably pretty far along for the starting cast, if not 100% complete. If I had to guess, I'd think DH has at least 6-8 near completion, with mainly balancing left to do on them.

They still have to get the online code up to par, add in whatever single player modes we're going to get, flesh out a proper training mode, etc. There's a lot of stuff we haven't seen that's probably pretty far along.

That said... I'm leaning toward the majority thinking we'll have 6-8 characters at launch.

I agree that it looks great, but I see A LOT of balance updates/patches in their future as they develop characters and balance them with those that have been released.

I know this game is Microsoft's bait to get a certain demographic to buy the console and I know only an idiot would buy a console for one game... yet here I am. I feel defeated.

Well, I'm definitely not spending $500 on a console just for one game, not even this.

It's merely a contributing factor.

I guess my love for Japanese shooters makes it easier to accept such a thing. People often buy the arcade boards for $1000-$2000+ when they are released. It makes $500 look like chump change (not that I'm wealthy).
