Anyone else have any thoughts about some calling this Saints Row 3.5? It does look awfully similar, with the addition of superpowers and the dubstep gun, which they're pushing heavily.

Either way, superpowers is a great addition - will be great fun.

Saints Row 4 started out as a major expansion for SR3. THQ, under then CEO Rubin, and Volition agreed that the expansion if given more time and money could be something more substantial than just a simple DLC package. So THQ greenlit the funds to develop Enter the Dominatrix into the next full sequel.

The consequence of this is, while the game maybe a true sequel content wise, Volition didn't have time to completely re-texture or redo the game engine in a significant way. So all of the trailers look the exact same visually and ergo the Saints Row 3.5 claims.

IdolNinja, a prominent Saints Row 2 modder, and critic of the dearth of content in Saints Row 3; has played a unfinished version of the game. He's under NDA so he can't talk specifics. But his general comments have been extremely positive about the game. Since it hasn't improved that much visually, it would be safe to assume he likes the amount and quality of content that is actually in Saints Row 4.

I've been a little cautious about it, but I liked hearing on the Bombcast that Jeff played through the whole game to nearly 100% completion over a weekend. Not because it was short, but because he just spent a lot of time sitting and playing it. Makes me think there's enough interesting new content to keep it fun for a while.

You can't come close to fully completing Saints Row 2 in a weekend unless you're a god-tier player.

Why is it that every thread immediately calls this game Saints Row 3.5? Were Liberty City Stories or Vice City Stories hated on like this (yes, I know it was a way to have GTA on PSP)? They were very similar to 3 and Vice City respectively.

They weren't mainline games, simple as that.

I get the criticism, but every impression I've read has said that this is a full fledged sequel, so I don't really understand why it's still relevant. The game looks like it's going to be awesome.

Exactly. The people that have seen all of the material and impressions put out there that still hold the opinion of "It's Saints Row 3.5," I respect that. However, so many people immediately assume it is basically the same game without reading IdolNinja's positive impressions (he was EXTREMELY critical of SR3).

The weird thing for me is a that some of it is set in the same city as 3. But the super powers do look awesome and it looks like you go into space so I guess I can give it a pass.

they call black flag assassin's creed 4 :)

its all marketing shit these days.

This game does look dumb/great. is greenmangaming the cheapest you can get this with there usual 20/25% off code?

The lack of FemMC in the promotional content is disappointing, especially because the voices and clothing you can choose from for the gals are amazing.

No, this is an entirely different beast.

The closer we get to release date, the more excited I am for this game. I'll be honest, I loved SR3 but up until about a month ago I had no interest in this as it just looked stupidly ridiculous.

I think the best thing the devs/pubs have done was make SR3 available on PS+. I downloaded it and while re-playing I remembered just how ludicrous the game was, and thats why I enjoyed it so much, so now i'm eagerly looking forward to release date.

Well played.

I can see that, but Saints Row 2 had the same city as Saints Row and is adored.

I'm just not feeling this. The Crackdown and Prototype gameplay is really jarring to me. Beyond that, it just looks like a bad game that relies on gimmick overload and over the top humor to make it seem appealing. But I still might try it one day for some cheap laughs when the price drops.

to play Devil's Advocate, that's because SR2's city was expanded horizontally and given a lot of new areas, while SR4's has been expanded vertically with all of the alien towers. Of course, I don't think most of the people complaining about this game are even aware of this or anything else outside of "this graphically looks like SR3 and that must mean this is a cashgrab".

I skipped to about half-way, saw 2 seconds (generous) of footage with a cannon and closed it. Will buy on sale. I want more saints row, but that's saints row 3.

hope melee is a bigger part of it now with all the super powers. the only gun i really used in 3 was fully upgraded pistols with exploding rounds.

doing the canned wrestling moves is fun, but would love a more fleshed out melee stuff.

I just caught this, good video.

"It takes a lot of work to make something this beautifully stupid."

Brilliant.

There was also SR2 graphics at the start. No buy!!! Come on Volition, this SR4 trailer was b.. huh? Oh it wasn't a sr4 only trailer but a dev thingy. I take back what I fakely said.

Edit: I want that 3 screen setup. That part they showed was perfect. Worm hole type of whoooooosssshhing.

They took some b-roll of me for these with my giant 30" Dell monitor. :p

Its alright if they reuse the SR3 engine as long as there's a ton of fun content, reusing steelport as the city is what worries me.

Is Male Voice #2 back in this game. He was in 2 and 3. But if he is not it might hurt the chances of me buying it. I don't want the cockney voice or troy baker.

I just hope half of the missions aren't the side missions being introduced. That is the worst part of 3.

At least on the Rev3 stream, the developer that was playing stated they realized this and avoided it at all costs this time around.
