Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

Loving the mercenary beta now that I've unlocked Ghost and the Supply armor!

I'm surprised you weren't loving it before but it makes the FUCK YOU GG when losing progress more understandable :P . Let's get some games in guys...just about to finish off this pasta, before you all sleep

I'm using my US account for the Killzone beta - skizoor, just sending you an invite, for whenever.

Any chance Skullgirls will get a Vita version? Seems like a good fit since Sony's courting the indies and the Vita's a great system for fighting games (god-tier dpad).

EDIT:

Skullgirls devs (@Skullgirls) tweeted:
"We'd love to do a PS Vita release. Maybe after we're done with the PC version?" (April 29, 2013)

So there's hope after all. :)

There was a rumour, and that was probably the basis... however, I cannot imagine playing that game on anything other than a fightstick, so I'd actually just keep to PS3/PC for it.

I'd recommend Unit 13 if you liked SOCOM, it's one of the Vita's underrated games.

Unit 13 is fantastic. I got it for $18 or so digitally and it was a blast to platinum.

Oh, I was. I was just annoyed that they broke the game with the update (didn't impact me that much at that time, but if they do it again... I'll probably delete the beta, now that I've put several hours in and got the equipment I want). The FUCK YOU was for leading me into the hellhole known as the Sony Store again and culminating in another frustrating "preparing to download..." hang.

I mean, I have enough background with software to know that you should NEVER break a customer's installation with an update and give a line of "sorry, you'll just have to start over."

And cracking that would help it how?

It would give him all the games he doesn't want to pay for free, obviously.
And allow him to run emulators and such too.

The only reason I'd want any sort of crack at this point is for someone to figure out how to make a Steam-like OS as mentioned by someone in this thread to replace the bubbles. I'd lose my mind if they ever did that.

That's all I could really ask for. While I'm okay with bubbles, it doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have alternatives. All the custom themes available on the PSP is one of the main reasons I cracked mine.

Here's a question for you guys:

Suppose Sony releases a Vita with LTE, with unrestricted online gameplay and store downloads (unlike the current 3G system which prevents you from playing online in 3G), how interested would you be in picking it up?

I probably wouldn't be interested. Too expensive for me to keep up an LTE plan for my Vita AND my phone.

if the LTE features were included in a one time life time fee with purchase of the system decently interested, if i would have to sign up for a data plan there is no chance in hell I would touch the system unless it was randomly cheaper than the other versions when i go to buy my wife a vita in a year or two.

in general it would be a lot less of a pointless model than the 3g version though.... the, ooh look at me I can spend $30 a month to use google maps on my vita anywhere *twirls fingers around*, 3g system :/ (I know the 3g system can do more than that but the 3g is pretty much completely pointless to have in something like the vita.... it should have been 4g from the start)

I already have an LTE phone that I can tether to my Vita if I require an online connection on the go, so it's a pointless feature for me. No point in paying for two data plans.

I just realized I haven't played a single other game besides KZ:M since the beta started, lol. I stopped Stealth Inc very suddenly. I want to start playing it again because it's a really fun game. Ten by Eight, too. It's just that KZ is SOOO good.

Yeah, LTE would be MUCH more worthwhile than 3G.

Oh look at me, I'm VanWinkle and I'm so awesome since I got into the KZ beta! LALALA!

He's not that awesome. He only has a .92 K/D :P

I have good reason! My brother played it for three hours last night and BUTCHERED it!

Hah, you can't count K/D when the game is just out, I've spent more time messing about than hunting! Euh it shows lol.

Hope they fix the team balance, sometimes we're playing against no one for 5 minutes :P

matches tomorrow please

Well, I'm officially farther in Ninja Gaiden Sigma than I ever was in the original. Can't believe those tremor worms gave me trouble all those years ago.

The PS1 games are 9.99, I doubt they're gonna be 20.

What do the PSone games have to do with this release? Those are straight ISO dumps of the PSone discs with nothing else. Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD are getting redone textures and character models alongside additional content.

If these go retail in North America I'd expect $30 for each game with th Vita versions including content that would be paid DLC on PS3 to make up the difference. Or they could match the PS3 version's price and just release X on cart with X-2 as an included PSN voucher.

No, vitabros are too insecure :p there was NEVER a single reason to doubt about ff x x2 on vita.

lol

We went more than an entire year without a single trailer, screenshot or even an official site. Final Fantasy X HD was announced at TGS 2011 which also had vaporware announcements like Zone of the Enders HD Collection for Vita.

Maybe now I can cancel my PS3 preorder, since it seems it is actually coming to Vita. I'd like a release date though... I'm guessing it will be delayed from the PS3 release.

That would make little sense as Square Enix has said that development is further along on Vita than PS3.

I'd have to check how much LTE costs here but if it were possible to stream ps4 games on the go that would be huge.

Wait, you need to subscribe to a new LTE plan where you live? In Singapore, if we want, we can apply for a sub card which uses your existing subscription and I think that just costs an additional 5 to 10 bucks a month.

I'll be honest, it is kind of tempting to just be able to pop out my vita anywhere and play a game of Dragon's Crown or Killzone.

I can't say anything about AC: Rising Phoenix but Injustice GOTY on VITA won't be surprising to me. Mortal Kombat VITA sold really well. It sold ~250k copies in USA alone. Seeing the sales, i am sure that Injustice will also make it to VITA.

How many of those were sold at $10? It was quite clear the game was heavily overshipped as it price collapse really quickly.

Then that would make it a no-brainer! I heard about that in Thailand too. Damn, that's lucky. Yeah we'd have to pay double here in the UK too. I think!

Although I wouldn't have it on every month but would be happy to pay that when I do want to use the vita outisde.

Why do you have to go and reopen old wounds?

Vita uses AT&T for its cellular network and I use Verizon.

If they go for 4G LTE then it should be Unlocked (like in all other other countries - here in US is locked to AT&T and I think Japan is locked also to DocoMo, not sure though)

I doubt this will happen, even if it does, US ISP are shit with all the data limits and contracts.

ISP limits are something we have to live with unfortunately. The entry level data plan here in Singapore only provides 2GB per month. But i think that for online play and web browsing, that should be enough.

Does it even matter here? We can say the same for any other console or third party 3DS release.

Why wouldn't it matter? You were boasting about the game's sales without the context of its pricing situation. Mortal Kombat on Vita came out in May at $40 and by July it was $10 at a few retailers. That's a bit faster than the average game's price collapse. Believe it or not, but not evey unit sold is equal. At $10 I can't imagine anyone was making money on that. While that didn't seem to discourage Warner from releasing an Injustic port, similar situations have made publishers stay away. The first Fire Emblem on DS sold well in North America, but none of the later DS releases came over because a good amount of the first game's sales came from clearance prices.

GGs, killzone vita-bros!
I know I saw yopis/vanwinkle/baron -- baron and I were teammates for a good long while... hopefully I was pulling enough weight. ;)

I am just saying that this situation of dropping to bomba price is not exclusive to Mortal Kombat. It happens all the time and to even some popular AAA games like Tomb Raider or Resident Evil 6, espcially if the product is overshipped like for RE 6 and TR.

Does it even matter now. Maybe the digital sales were strong, maybe the port didn't cost them much and hence they ended up making a profit. At the end, all i was doing was pointing towards the sales of MK to say that Injustice port is definitely a possibility. Why should i boost about 250k sales. These numbers were posted in the NPD July thread along with almost every other third party title on VITA and it didn't look impressive as a whole.

I think the takeaway here is that WBgames probably said "there's a market for our fighters on Vita" regardless of what the profit margin was. 250k copies is nothing to laugh at when people are doubting the install base and viability of the Vita overall.

Maybe the port cost them peanuts and they did it as a proof of concept. If they think they can get Injustice going on there and the sales from MK lead them to believe that Injustice will move copies at $40 a piece, let them go for it. I don't want the game personally, I'm not a fan... but if it gives other Vita owners something to buy/play/etc... great, bring it over. :)

Not at all.
A) whatever Sony's reasons for gimping 3G mode this way, I don't think speed was at the top of the list and that's what LTE brings to the table (the LTE deployment here hasn't dented the latency issues in any significant way).
B) the 3G model made it abundantly clear that a handheld console won't be the general public's goto all-in-one cell device. As such, it offers too little differentiation as a console and I doubt Sony will pursue these efforts.

Was it posted already that Rainbow Moon is in testing already and will be released this year ?

I got the plat on the PS3 version, such a good game. I'm not usually one for SRPGs despite being a huge JRPG/WRPG fan, but I really liked Rainbow Moon. I think the thing that did it for me was the fact that despite the game having SRPG combat, outside of battle it plays like JRPG. There's a ton of exploration and lots of quests to do. I put more hours into it than most other games in the last year or so.

Vitacats, is there a way (outside in game options that would allow you to do so) to see how much time you've spent in a specific app/game?

Well, WB is the company that releases pretty much every LEGO game on Vita even though those can't be selling well. Maybe that's a contractual obligation with LEGO Group or something.

In games that allow you to select a specific save to load (through the Vita OS rather than something like the Jak port) you can click the 'i' to the right of the save and the time spent in that save should be recorded there.
