Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - Beta Phase 3 Impression: Phase 4 August

My problem is that I'm not Legacy - I played 1.0 for months but then cancelled and never went back. Looks like I'll be starting from scratch, so can I still get into that server?

Technically that means you have a legacy character that you can resume playing in ARR (even if you don't have a "legacy account" with the pricing perks). What server was it on?

Either way, yes, all servers will be available for anyone to create characters on. The only restriction is legacy characters cannot be transferred to any new servers for about 6 months or so (until new servers have had time to catch up, establish economies, etc.) but they can move between legacy servers.

I'm going to be picking this up after playing Beta Phase 2 and 3 fairly extensively. Really enjoying the fusion of old and new, and despite never playing FFXI or the previous FFXIV, I feel a sense of nostalgia when playing the game.

I'd like to join the GAF guild, but I'm not entirely sure where you are all going to be - I'm going to start fairly casually but want to contribute after a month or so and I'm in the UK. By the looks of the discussion, there seems to be a split between players so want to make sure I'm on the right guild.

Also I was wondering when was the best time to level alternative roles? Such as your secondary role for the job class and the profession roles.

Cheers guys

Is there an unofficial non-legacy GAF server? I would love to have an LS to link up with, run dungeons and eventually do progression content, but I want to be on a server that is starting from scratch.

EDIT- Sorry, just checked OP. Ultros it is!

After you get your first combat class/job to 50 or as soon as you decide you don't like the class you started on. Whichever comes first.

Nice - I was on Fabul server. Ok, Sargatanas it is. As for my legacy character, how does this work exactly? Are there preparations that I need to make on my account page prior to creating my character in ARR? Thanks by the way omlet and demosthenes.

Because SE split the legacy servers between the JP and NA data centers, they were allowing free transfers between legacy servers so that people could get on the side of the pond they preferred, but you may have missed the window on this as it was several weeks back. (Just checked, yeah, the window was about a month long but you missed it http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=c04f3593f6d9559a3c75c30887a9678758c91b95)

If you are just planning on starting from scratch on a legacy world there are no preparations to worry about. If you want to transfer your legacy character to Sargatanas you'll have to wait until after launch and may have to pay to transfer (not sure they've given any details about how transfers will work).

There is an official one. Ultros.

Level 15 seems like a good time. Like if you are following the storyline it should be then that you first get to travel around the world on airship, so can go open up all the other classes while just following the story.

Also if you already know what job you are aiming for it may be good to start as the class that lv 15 is required for, then switch to the main one at that point.

I'll be on my way to Sargatanas also. Joining my cousin who already level capped all the classes, haha. I was going to wait for the PS4 version (since all I have is a 5 year-old MacBook Pro), but his consistent raving of the game convinced me to join the beta on the PS3. Hopefully it doesn't look too bad!

I'll be starting from scratch, my plan is to exclusively play tanking and healing roles starting from Gridania. Can't wait to play with you guys in Sargatanas!

Interesting, cheers! So if I wanted to White Mage you'd recommend picking Gladiator first and then switching to Cleric after level 15? Is there any impact to your character in the long run if you start your character off in a different city? [when you first create it]

It will be reflected on your character profile but it makes no difference in terms of gameplay besides very minor differences in how the first handful of main story quests are. At level 15ish the three branching 1-15 main questlines converge. If you're just dying to see all three branches, make two alts and play them through the first 15 levels.

Not really. When you make your character it is based in a certain city depending on the class you picked. . So LNC and ARC and CNJ are based in Gridania while THMs and MRDs are based in Ul'dah and so forth. So if you wanted to get some sub job spells and what not rdy for Cleric, you would start as a THM and be based in Ul'dah.

I tried all 3 in the beta, I have no desire to do that again - but glad it makes no difference to your character after level 15.

Thats awesome news, might do exactly that!

Last I checked, the Ultros GAF was planning on pushing toward FC housing. : ) That's hardcore, if you ask me.

And to Ultros I go!

This. There will also be small references to where you started in quest conversations, like the adventurers guild master in each city will recognize you when you come back to do the story quest in that area.

The other difference is that getting from 1-15 may be a little less fluid on the second class even in a new area since you no longer have the story quests. But after that you will be able to just follow the story quests with your new class. As for what I recommend, that is really up to how you want to play. I know it is what I will be doing, but others may want to start as their favorite class right from the get go.

Not too sure about human style this time. In FF11, bald style looked fine. Here it just looks.... weird.

While not totally bald, I immediately thought of Teknoman's original XIV character which I thought looked pretty good. Makes me think there is a combination that won't look strange out there, though I haven't tried myself.

Im really looking forward to this game.
Tried the beta out with a PS3 & 360 controller on the PC.

The only thing that aggrovates me is that I want to get the physical collectors edition for the PC. But lo and behold, problem on SE's store. is there anyway to order it?

Also, are Gaffers gonna stick to Ultros?

I'm so stoked for this...haven't done an MMO in a good amount of time and they suck me in. If GAF is going for hardcore progression raiding and such on Ultros, I'm game. Day 1!

You might want to check if there's going to be an official EU non-legacy server, the times people are playing may match better with your timezone.

My hope is that EU GAF will pick the same server as US GAF, considering that there are only EN and JPN servers this time around. EU GAF guilds tend to burn out quite quickly...

Good to know, and I think your way works well. I've leveled up two characters on Grindina, so I'll go back there after level 15 as I know the xp grind quite well.

Physical collectors edition for PC has long been sold out. What kind of problem are you having on SE's online store?

Also, are Gaffers gonna stick to Ultros?
There will be notable gaffer presence on three servers, possibly four depending on what EU players decided to do. New players are free to join any server. Joining a legacy server will be just like joining any MMO a few months after release while joining Ultros will mean everyone starting from the ground up. Pros and cons to either.

The problem I think he is referring to is that you can still click pre-order phys collector's on their site but when you do you get an error. It's true that it does say sold out further down the initial page but it's easy to miss when you can still click the pre-order button. They should just take it down imo. Anyway I think he is referring to the error.

I don't see it listed when I go to the NA store. http://store.na.square-enix.com/sto...ListPage/ThemeID.29853700/categoryID.64514800 How did you find the sold out listing?

http://store.na.square-enix.com/store/sqenixus/en_US/pd/ThemeID.29853700/productID.281319400#.Uf_LOW3pwcV

I don't know I got it with a google search. That's how I usually search for stuff. Sometimes people navigate through sites sometimes they just google it. On this page it says sold out but it also says you can pre-order with a limit on 2 copies.

I am kinda thinking about playing on a US server since EU/NA datacenters are both in the US meaning EU pings to US server shouls be about the same as to EU servers. Still not completly certain though. If I decide to go US server, I will probably be on Ultros.

I went Ultros during Phase 3, nice enough, don't really recall it ever being too empty either during euro times.

Yeah Ultros didn't ever feel empty to be honest. And during some of the beta weekends I was on for like, 20-ish hours straight. (I have a problem)

So will there actually be a gaf guild on Ultros? If so is it hardcore type or are more casual players welcome too?

There will be and it will be accepting casual players--as to whether or not the Ultros group has plans for progression/raiding/etc. I don't know (probably eventually if enough people to do so). Sargatanas group will be accepting casual players, too, but we'll also be working on tackling the more challenging content sooner than would be feasible for a new server.

Basically, we (on legacy) won't turn people away from joining for being casual, but keep your expectations realistic (nice way of saying the people in the FC that are progression-oriented and do scheduled events shouldn't be expected to bend over to accommodate people who play more casually). And if you decide you want to do more than just play casually, the hope is that there is some structure in place to help you get involved.

I'll make a new beta thread today or tomorrow. I'll explain servers then. There will be an EU suggestion too. I'm recalling Ragnorak from the top of my head. The groups on Durandal and Ragnorak will be smaller than Sargatanas or Ultros. I believe they will be supplemented with outsiders (though, not strangers).

The real question is how people plan to use FCs. It seems they are both designed for end-game and helping new players. I don't know if you'll be able to apply the same design as an endgame LS to them.

Alright people, I now want to replay this game. I played last summer until I got the "legacy member" status and the Gobuu (?) mount. I have not played it since; so it's been a little over a year.

Is the game open for everyone right now ? A couple of months ago one needed some key to access the game, if I remember correctly. Kagari was giving out some on twitter. Is the game still closed or is it open for everyone ? Also, if I start playing, will I be able to use my character and, if yes, will it save what I do for when ARR comes out ?

Open beta should start soon (you still need to register for a key).

Game starts on 27. Legacy members and new pre-orders will start earlier (we still dont know when though).

For Ragnarok (EU timezone) please specify that we'll organize a Linkshell in the mean time to welcome both new and old players, and people interested can contact me or ebil.

As you said, for FCs since it is end-game oriented I think it's best to wait until most new people get to level 50.

Yes, your character was saved, including your goobbue and Legacy status. You will also have a chance to edit your character's appearance once when you play again because of the new character creator options. You are still tied to your 1.0 character's server though, so if you were on Excalibur then you're on Excalibur now.

Beta is currently closed for everyone, but the next phase will begin later this month, followed by an early-access period for those who pre-order the game.

It's a tough sell for those with commitments though, if nothing else the timezones will be working against EU people in a big way.

Very true. We had a lot of drama as a result of this in 1.x when we started scheduling events in for NA playtime and most EU players were retired/retiring for the evening by then.

Has the game's story changed ? I didn't finish the main quest last summer; have I missed out on anything by waiting until now to replay the game ?
