The Benchmark IS the Character Creation Tool. It's both.

Simply run the Benchmark and you'll get the option to only test the game on your PC but also create your character.

Thanks! Building the PC only took way too long. On the good side, I found out they put the thermal paste already on the bottom of the fan. Took me an hour of frantic searching for it to figure this out. :(

It's interesting to see all of this enthusiasm after FFXI. Usually when you see a lot of new people about to join, only one ends up staying 3 months later due to the difficulty of FFXI.
 
So guys.

During Phase 3, I was playing around with the client and I noticed that it supports Steam Overlay. It actually works on the benchmark too, you can test it out yourself by adding the benchmark as a Non-Steam Game and then launching it from Steam.

So since Squenix was nice enough to include Steam Overlay support in ARR, I went ahead and created a Steam group. Anyone is invited to join this group and really all I'm thinking it will be for is the chat room, where Gaffers can gather whether they are in the game or not. Also ARR has this stupid limitation where you can't whisper anybody when you are in a dungeon, so if you want to talk to someone who isn't in your LS or FC you're boned. So this might be useful for that too.

Since we are scattered across multiple servers, this could be helpful to help Gaffers congregate and find out where to go as well.

The group is public, so if you want to join go ahead.

Edit: Nevermind, too much to ask of people. I'll just have to grab the best CPU I can afford in Oct, and hope it doesn't choke on the game.
 
I am actually really looking forward to scholar and their awesome outfit, it will be awesome on Lalafell. :D

Although I never played the job in FFXI I actually always wanted to, so here is a cute Scholar Taru. xD

Dunno, seems like many of the Non-Steam Games I add to Steam don't work with it. Maybe I'm not very lucky with the overlay or something.
 
So phase 4 is this weekend if we're lucky right?

Phase 4 is a week long. Gonna be selfish here and hope its the week after next (because I'm off that week)

It won't be, because there needs to be server downtime for last-minute fixes, and then at least a few days for head start. Phase 4 pretty much has to start right after the Live Letter on August 8th if they really plan to make their August 27th launch.

Officially am burned on PSO2 due to all the stupid greed that game has. I am ready for Realm Reborn to Reborn my Realm of MMO love.

Came to that revelation myself when I kept getting all these ten star stuff and remembered I had to pay for premium just to trade them...no thanks Sega, come up with a better system.

Also in the video he says the game looks shit, but that you can't judge games by their looks and will try it out regardless.

I have a bunch of EU pre-order codes lying around and I'm not doing anything with them. I have no idea how they work because it looks like they deliberately made it confusing to redeem them, but this is what I make out of it:

He's just some guy that streams. I found him when he was into D3. So I sometimes pop into his twitch channel and see what he's playing.

Another detail I can't quite nail down.

In one of the live letters YoshiP talked about having free companies "team up". He terms it alliance, but this seems way more substantial than the multiparty system also called alliances. The example he gives is a free company with only six or so members teaming up with a bigger one. I have no idea what this really means or what it is actually called. I think I heard the word "union" somewhere and couldn't tie it to anything. So, anyone know anything about this?


Also I wonder if I should use the word multiparty to describe to alliances lol...

The details about Free Companies, Alliances and end-game are close to none. The only known facts about FCs are those from the phase 3, and some random examples he has thrown around like the one you mention, that don't really explain anything.
 
Does this game allow people to swap dats or whichever like FFXI did? Can't imagine it would, but Gyarados on Summoner again would be...interesting with higher graphics.

Definitely agree. It's started to become Pay2Win when I would have much preferred Pay2Play like FFXIV is doing.

Atleast you got something... I never got a 10 star wep, neither can buy one because of the premium.... and buying AC is a pain in the ass.

I have a sealed copy of FFXIV from when it was originally released. Will this be of any use when Realm Reborn launches or will I need to pick up a different version if I choose to play?

Will work perfectly fine with the Realm Reborn. At very least the CD key will. However you might need to download the client instead of installing from disk.

Only the keys will be of use. You will have to download the new client when it becomes available.

I don't think they changed the files system that much as it was in 1.0, so it's very likely that can't be done. It might have already be done during some of the beta phases but I can't go check the forum I know discusses this kind of stuff since it's NSFW and I'm at work.
