New 3DS System Update (StreetPass Relay Feature)

Wario64

works for Gamestop (lol)
Version 6.2.0-12U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:
Added support for the StreetPass relay feature:

-The Streetpass relay feature relays StreetPass data from one user that passes a Nintendo Zone to the next user that passes the same Nintendo Zone
-For more information on this feature, click here.
Improved system stability and usability:

-Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

StreetPass relay points are located at Nintendo Zones all across the country. When a Nintendo 3DS user gets near a StreetPass relay point, it automatically stores his or her StreetPass data temporarily and then passes it on to the next Nintendo 3DS user to pass by the same relay point.

StreetPass relay points temporarily store StreetPass data for various games each time a Nintendo 3DS user passes by. This means you can get StreetPass data for several games at once.

Notes:

You must have your 3DS updated to system version 6.2.0- 0U or higher to take advantage of the StreetPass relay feature. (How to)
Your Nintendo 3DS must be in Sleep Mode (powered on and closed) to exchange StreetPass data.
You will not receive any StreetPass data from the relay point if you are the first person to pass with a specific game's StreetPass data or if the relay point currently has your StreetPass data.

Just got this now while trying to download the new SMT IV DLC. Great news, been waiting a while for this feature. I'll be sure to test it out over the week.

Sweet, it's here.

Does anyone know if you get two tags if you pass two Nintendo Zone locations? I live in an area where there's a McDonalds and a Starbucks next to each other, and they're both Nintendo Zone compatible.

If not, I might just take a walk.

Yes! I need more people for my Streetpass army =( I'm losing men by 20,000 each time I lose a battle XD

Should do as long as someone Streetpasses those Zones before you did, else it's your information that'll be uploaded only.

Soooo... Basically it means that you can max out your Streetpass count by going into a shop that has a Zone that picked enough Streetpasses?

You only get 1 StreetPass when you connect to a zone. And you leave your data for the next person

Cool cool.
I probably won't take that walk now. I'll do it tomorrow, hopefully by then someone has passed by the two locations.

Really though I'm worried that people won't update. I streetpass people all the time that have hardly any puzzle panels unlocked. Will definitely lead to more tags, but I don't think it's quite the solution that Nintendo thinks it will be.

Kind of underwhelming then. You need to connect to the zone, to boot? Hmmm :/

Your 3DS will connect automatically if it's in sleep mode and you pass one.
I've gottn spotpass messages and updates from a nintendo zone without ever waking my 3ds, this'll be the same.

This should work if I just drive by the location & it's close to the road, right? I just realized I pass about 2 locations each time I take my little sister to school/go to college (once I start doing that at the end of the month), so this would make things even more awesome since I live in a town where I don't get them too often.

This and I street pass lots of kids with random letters from Anguilla.

Do you have to open up the Nintendo Zone app to get queued? Because every single time I've ever got a notice that I'm in a Nintendo Zone, I was never able to connect when opening the app.

If it registers you as soon as you get a notification of being in a Nintendo Zone then great.

I AM CLICKING HERE AND NOTHING IS HAPPENING

Also, neat.

I really hope you don't have to open up Nintendo Zone...

It automatically connects if your 3DS is in sleep mode with streetpass enabled. Instead of streetpassing a person, you just get data from the previous passer while getting your own data stored for the next person who passes by.

I wonder if I can streetpass with my friend, have him go and streetpass at a Nintendo Zone, and then turn right around and get him again right away? Or does the 8 hour thing still go on.

Apparently the only Nintendo Zones near me are all McDonald's (and a Future Shop) so I don't think this will help me get more StreetPasses, but we'll see.

Since I don't have Nintendo Zones near me (or Street passes) I don't think this will help me much.

Now please bring Miiverse to 3DS!

You don't have to go inside and buy something if that's what you mean. I always get connected just walking by.

Nice. I've got a bunch of Nintendo Zones within a few miles of my address.

Now just get Miiverse running on this thing and it's all gravy.

I've got two 3DSs and I setup a Nintendo Zone location inside my house. Wonder what's going to happen. Going to assume there's a cool-off time between relay tags like there is with normal tags.

Good thing I bought those new Streetpass games recently. Now I should get more chances to play them, if this thing works out.

Oh sweet, glad to see this is available now. Was a rather quick download (probably not even 10 seconds). I should pass a McDonalds or two while driving to GameStop to pick up Dragon's Crown tomorrow.

& just a reminder, use this to find locations that have them, mainly McDonalds & Starbucks.
Starbucks is only active for now. They're going to be switching from AT&T Wi-Fi to Google Wi-Fi over the next few weeks/months.

I really hope you don't have to open up Nintendo Zone...

The way Nintendo Zones work is that they're basically unsecured WiFi hotspots that the 3DS is pre-configured to automatically connect to. So it'll connect to the spot as you walk through it, just like connecting to your home WiFi. No need to open an app or the system at all.

I was pretty excited about this, but it looks like there isn't a single Nintendo Zone near me if their hotspot finder is accurate. Heck, there are barely any in this country as a whole. Oh well. :(

Looks like it stores StreetPass data based on games, which is pretty cool since it means people who pass a relay point won't take everything with them, only data for games they own:

A little underwhelming as it's only one streetpass per spot but I guess since I work in downtown where there's a bunch of Nintendo spots, it should hopefully be fine.

Is it just McDonald's and Starbucks? Because when I check the location finder I'm getting all kinds of results like Ruby Tuesdays, FedEx, Best Buy (knew about that one already) Barnes and Noble, and the ATT retail store in addition to a bunch of McDonald's and Starbucks.

Make sure you check the location finder.
