If we had a real Xbox One AMA

There are some VERY good, VERY detailed questions here.

To give you guys great answers, would take some time.

Let me see what I can do to give clarity on some of these. Not sure if it will happen here, or if we'll address in other ways. But it's good to know what's still on your mind.

Keep it up.

I'd also like to know if they have any plans to provide Cloud services for PS4 versions of multiplatform games.

no matter where you guys answer those, let us know about it. :)

Cool, thanks.

Thanks for stopping by :) Looking forward to the answers! (No matter how we get them)

Please don't ignore the questions that weren't added to the OP.

Why ask questions about the PS4? I mean AMAs mean you can ask anything but what people don't get is that they won't answer anything.

No, one of the PR people confirmed it's only one game at a time.

No

Some of these questions (which are good questions) were answered in what was basically a Reddit AMA back at E3 when all the shit was going down. Major Nelson was the one answering them and he got visibly frustrated over some of the legit questions. Going so far as to say that problems with the cloud going down in the future and you losing your digital games is something "we certainly would not do, that's not the way the system is designed, it's designed for flexibility."

I'm interested in the specific hardware questions like what their solution is for supporting the One controller on the PC, but a lot of the software questions it seems like no one is answering. Sony hasn't given the kind of details I want either. Specifics just don't seem to be a big thing this generation when it comes to the UI. How much you can upload to twitch, what exactly the friends list is going to look like, how customization the front end is etc are probably late to get polished and they aren't going to show them til way late.

I was asking because Albert Penello implied you can on another thread but not as a direct answer.

Can the Xbox One controller be used to control Xbox 360 games if you hook the Xbox 360 up through HDMI input?

If somebody changes gamertags without telling you, is there any way to know who they were originally?

Is there any way to leave yourself a personal note about a specific friend on your friends list? I can't remember who these people are sometimes.

Is it still possible to send picture messages?

Is video messaging something you're planning on adding?

Is there a way to pre-purchase digital releases, including pre-loading for 12:00am release day gameplay?

How many Xbox One controllers can be paired to the console at the same time for local multiplayer? More than 4?

If a game you paid for originally on Xbox 360's XBLA service is re-released on X1, will we have to pay again? If so, discounts?

Can I gift a digital game to a friend?

Will Xbox One have printer support?

Are you able to leave your profile concurrently signed in to a Xbox One and an Xbox 360? Or will turning on the 360 to play older games dump your signed in box out?

What's been done to make Smartglass faster (much) and more reliable?

Think about it this way (I'm somewhat oversimplifying)

There are GAMES and there are APPS

GAMES take up the vast majority of system performance. You can only have one game running at a time. If you are playing Battlefield, and want to switch to Killer Instinct - that switch will not be "instant". We are doing a bunch of things to make that faster, easier, and better on 360, but it won't be instant. If both games are Digital, that makes the switch must faster and that only works if the games are purchased digitally. We won't have the ability to say "Xbox, Play Killer Instinct" and then get a prompt to insert the Disc. And you cannot have more then one running.

APPS work differently. They run in their own VM, and you can have several different Apps running at the same time (I think it's 4, but don't hold me to that). They take away NO performance from Games.

So you can instantly switch between Apps, and you can snap Apps to Games. You do just about any combination EXCEPT two full games.

We'll be demoing this stuff live very soon, then you'll see it working and it will make more sense.

That help?

So smart matchmaking isn't actually running the other game in the background if you decide to play a different game while you wait, I get it.

Also, it sounds like there's no restriction on app snapping and game compatibility. Wasn't there a rumor that AAA games weren't going to allow an app to be snapped?

They would answer about 10% of the questions, if even that.

And that would be generous.
If it was GAF based well over 90% of the questions would be crap or just trolling.

Example:
"How do you plan to compete with the PS4 when all multiplats will have better graphics since it was GDDR5 ram and GPU has more Tflops?"

I do AMA-like things in my game and the retarded garbage I get is scary. And then they complain when I dont answer obvious troll questions.

That said I expect much more than those BS IGN AMA article...was sad.

My guess is, that the matchmaking is integrated into the OS. That's also why you can fire it up on your smartglass device. We just have to hope, that third party devs will use that feature/api.

Q. Can I buy codes for games to be downloaded digitally from retailers other than Mircosoft/Xbox Live Market Place (i.e. Amazon, Best Buy, GAME, Gamestop, Walmart or Tesco)? If I can will these work in the exact same way as those bought directly from Xbox Live Marketplace?

What we really need is for every good question to be amalgamated into one post, so if another AMA happens, one person can copy and paste all of it in, and the AMA will be successful.

I'm going all digital.

So I can't have two (digital) games running at the same time but can I suspend a game to play another game and then go back to exactly where I left off in that previous game?

I thought I could do that based on the information that has been given but I might be mistaken.

This one was answered by Major Nelson (I think - might have been someone else). You can have both logged in at the same time.

According to Marc Whitten on the Xbox Wire you can be logged into both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
http://news.xbox.com/2013/08/xbox-one-digital-games-and-live-gold

If you are an Xbox Live Gold member today, you are already set for Xbox One. Your Xbox Live Gold membership for Xbox 360 will seamlessly become an Xbox Live Gold account on your Xbox One and you will be able to enjoy Xbox Live Gold features on either console. You can even be logged in to Xbox 360 and Xbox One at the same time.

I would trust that source over anything else.

I know currently you can't be signed in on XBL on 360 and use Games for Windows Live on a PC at the same time.
Not sure why you bumped this thread to answer that question in that manner haha.
