Just watched it at an 80 percent full, 3:30PM on a Friday showing in IMAX 3D in Tokyo.

Loved it. My mind was completely blown. My favorite summer blockbuster/popcorn flick since ID4 and the Matrix.

It's tough to gauge reactions here sometimes, but the chatter after the movie seemed to indicate people were impressed.

Tomorrow (or today) the movie FINALY starts showing here in Brazil.

And I heard there will be special sessions near my city with JAPANESE DUBBED COPIES of the movie

I am curious.... anyone would want to see the movie this way ?

Normally I wouldn't, but the dub cast list is basically a Who's Who of famous mecha anime voice actors.

Amuro and Char play Charlie Day and Ron Perlman.

I'm FINALLY going to watch it tonight!

My GF is not excited, but I can wait!!!

Please tell me in what city you live. It would be interesting to watch those dubbed copies.

I'm really looking forward to this movie although the non-existent marketing campaign here in Brazil might make it bomb.

Where in Brazil are you? Brazil has the largest japanese population outside of japan iirc.

I still haven't seen this movie and since it's being pushed down to the 10:45 PM show only in Reno am wondering if it's worth it?

Just got back from watching it and IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!
IT'S EVERYTHING I ENJOYED ABOUT MECHAS AS A KID ONLY A THOUSAND TIMES MORE AWESOME!

The main theme is kickass too, but I gotta avoid listening to it since I gotta go to bed for work haha.

I will say this though
The Russians and Chinese shouldn't have died =( They didn't have much of a role in the movie, if they had an emergency evac of sorts would've been good, granted they'd still be out of the fight but it'd be better than their fate in the movie.
I wonder if there'll be an 'extended cut' with more scenes of the Russains and Chinese?

Still no info on how it performed in Japan?

So far just some accounts on twitter that it gets very good reviews in Japan, and that some people have seen it 3x already. But I also hope to see some concrete numbers soon. It comes out same week as WWZ though, which is playing in more theatres in general in Japan so the first weeks could get a hit from that. The japanese market can have some really long legs though.

Aha thanks for the info.
Well I see the movie managed to cover it's budget, so does that mean it's starting to make a profit?

LOL that has to be the stupidest thing I've ever read. As if somehow the Kaiju were looking at the wall and going "O_o".
I think Jaegers were deployed to intercept Kaijus before they got close to land, because as soon as one gets near people were at risk.

BTW today the first Kaiju emerges. 10 August 2013.

but weren't they also stoping the funding for the Jaeger program? Leaving only the wall to stop the Kaijus.

Saw this posted elsewhere, dunno if its accurate or not:

The ratings got up to 4.11 /5 in the yahoo movies site, people liked it. The big problem is the Box Office.

Box Office forecast

1 (1) The Wind Rises (Toho) ¥480 million ($5.0 million) Week 4
2 (-) World War Z (Toho-Towa) ¥400 million ($4.2 million) DEBUT!
3 (3) Monsters University (Disney) ¥320 million ($3.3 million) Week 6
4 (2) The After-Dinner Mysteries (Toho) ¥290 million ($3.0 million) Week 2
5 (-) Pacific Rim (Warner Bros.) ¥280 million ($2.9 million) DEBUT!
6 (-) A Boy Called H (Toho) ¥250 million ($2.6 million) DEBUT!
7 (4) The Lone Ranger (Disney) ¥225 million ($2.4 million) Week 2

Says forecast, so we'll have to see if actuals match up.

Also, this week is a holiday week apparently in Japan which will change the grosses during the week, I dont think we will know too much of how the movie will perform overall until later this week.

I think you will all be surprised by the Chinese box office. I went this Tuesday and there was a house 80% full at am IMax3D. Second week running too.

Well, at this point, it's not how much it's grossing at the Chinese boxoffice, it's the dispute of how much this studios get, there is apparently a conflict of interest and the studios are currently getting zilch since China wants it all. It's make the gross a total wash at actually adding to Pacific Rim's bottom line, which completely sucks. I want that sequel!

It's a dispute over a 2% tax. It'll get worked out, both sides like money too much.

Just saw this on Imax, the real protagonist was Elba, the rest were foils for him, they did a good job creating a living universe without having to drag us to the origins shit. Amazing stuff.

Also, I wonder if Legendary was counting on us foreigns saving the movie, otherwise they really showed a lot of restrain on keeping the american fuck yeah stuff to a minimum.

Props to Charley Day for being in this, the guy deserves it.
