College sports are so pathetic.
Came to post that pic. So true.
College sports are so pathetic.
A simple way to solve this is to cut college out completely. All student athletes should be eligible to skip directly to the professional leagues if they're good enough.
Dude's family is rich as hell, the hell he requesting money for knowing the heat that brings. If this turns out true, that is.
Think about it...Texas actually gets money by selling jerseys with the Kid's name on it and he has NO rights to it...he literally has no right to his name. No matter how you cut it, the system is unfair and needs SERIOUS updating.
There aren't rules against that in the pros. There are pro players that make millions of dollars and they are not too rich to sit down and make a couple of grand on the side signing autographs or making a pr appearance.
True but here is where the NCAA and the NFL/NBA are in collusion...The major sport franchises agree to ignore any and all players that don't go first to college for two reasons.
1. If all the best players go straight to the pros, there is no need for major college sports at all except to see the guys who aren't good enough. As a result, they would suffer greatly (which would be fine by me).
2. The pro teams would then need a farm system. This is probably the biggest problem for them...as it is now the NFL and NBA have a free and liable-free farm system. They get all the benefit of the talent and don't have to worry about broken bones and careers. The NCAA benefit from having a strong athletic pool to showcase their product and (best of all) they don't have to share ANY of the profit with the athletes. Free labor.
This arrangement made sense back in the 60's and 70's but the amount of money these schools now make on the backs of the players today is sickening.
My take is that ever player in a major college program (fuck off Water Polo...only programs that make money) should have rights to a certain amount of payment. My solution (above getting a scholarship) would be to see them setup a trust fund to be paid to the student as he leaves the school. Students then would see a portion of the profits deposited into their accounts after every game but none of it could be accessed until they turn pro.

Their names aren't on the back. It's just the number.

NCAA is a joke
this.
Dont mind the coaches who are making MILLIONS of dollars, heaven forbid he sells an autograph for $50
I am responding to the bold, his family being rich why would he want to make money signing autographs.
Oh okay, my mistake. Johnny is just stupid. He seems determined to piss his opportunity away.
He has already tweeted that he can't wait to leave college station. If he is ineligible for this year, he'll probably head straight to a pro training camp to prepare for next years draft.
Lots of Aggies can't wait to leave cstat.... Why would that be an unusual thing to tweet even for a football player?
LOL.
No 17 year old kid is physically or mentally ready to play in the NFL outta HS. This shit ain't the NBA, brah.
I can just imagine a 17 year old HS QB getting cracked by a grizzled veteran and his career being over in a split second because he was used to getting hit by other 17 year olds before going to the NFL.
Believe me, of any sport, football is the one that doesn't have HS draft picks that I support.
It's for the players safety overall. Too bad the NCAA is broken.
Kinda how I feel. Bullshit rules are bullshit but guess what?
They are the rules. You can't underage drink and you can't sell memorabilia.
Abide by that shit, bide your time and go be a millionaire in the NFL in a year or two.
Again, let me stress, I'm not siding with the NCAA. I think they are garbage the way they profit off their players. I'm saying that for Manziel, the bigger goal is the NFL. And the MILLIONS there. I would do nothing to fuck that up if I were him.
While the NCAA is...well really really awful (How long is it gonna take for them to punish Miami?)...he should have seen what happened to the last guys who tried this stunt and avoided it...
I'm still not excusing the NCAA for...just being total toolbags though
Glad the NCAA enforces its rules, even on high profile stars. No one is above the law.

Except when they dont
Ongoinginvestigation.gifWell, they have on AJ Green, Marcell Dareus and Terrelle Pryor.
Just not Cam.
There is a debt to somebody that He didn't pay. They came knocking looking for what he owes, and he didn't do what he was supposed to do. Now, everyone in the media is out to ruin him and put forth a narrative that puts him in the worst light imaginable. (Probably true, but who knows) and they are out to make him pay for not paying back what he owes. I swear, I've seen it so many times.

Eh I don't think they should be paid directly by the schools but they should be able to make money off of their likeness i.e. endorsements, signing autographs for money etc. so long as it doesn't come directly from the schools. This country has lost its fucking mind with athlete and celebrity worship. I cannot believe that people are for college athletes getting paid. Ridiculous. It's almost like people have forgotten what universities are and where the priorities should be.
God forbid these athletes attempt to make some money off of their image while the NCAA makes bajillions doing the same thing.
Don't make me have to slap another FSU fan. ;P
Like, the mob?
So then they should work collectively to help change the rules, instead of taking the free scholarship worth tens of thousands of dollars and lying and cheating on the side. While it may be nothing to all you guys, I know plenty of people who would be soooo grateful for a free ride at a university like A&M.

^this.
the percentage of athletes that make it pro is pretty freaking low. Alot of guys take the scholarship for the free ride with realistic expectations of playing and getting a free degree with no pro dreams.

The big deal now is he allegedly signed autographs at least once for a large sum of money from the autograph broker....What did he do wrong again , i mean clearly he broke an NCAA rule, but rules and right are mutually exclusive cause...well what did he do lol signed some stuff?
Deadspin being their awesome selves.
Worst Columnist In America Compares Johnny Manziel To Rosa Parks
Got it, folks?
Johnny Manziel = Rosa Parks
Terrelle Pryor = Terrorist
SCOTUS was right. Racism is over!
Sorry, fixed.Your Link is all types of Pete Campbell
Well, they have on AJ Green, Marcell Dareus and Terrelle Pryor.

lolJohnny made a big mistake. He should have signed all those items and given the check straight to his university. That is who truly deserves that money. They are the ones paying for his schooling, his books, his housing, his food, and they are providing him a crowd of millions every week in the fall to play in front of. How dare he do this, doesnt he know that he has a FREE ride? What more does he need? Just another selfish, entitled athlete that cannot see the big picture.
and even pryor was a joke
"SUSPEND HIM!....uh... after the Sugar Bowl Game!!!!"
