Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

1. What's the best shooter on the Vita? Killzone looks great, but need something for the time being. Love the Resistance series, but haven't heard great things about Burning Skies.

3. Never finished Persona 3 and not sure it was even clicking with me. Should I even attempt Persona4

Ad1. Resistance is ok game. But only if you can find it cheap like 10$ cheap or get a rental somewhere. Unit 13 is also fine but i think sale already finished on it.

Ad3. Probably not - story is diffrent and some gameplay mechanics are improved but at it's core those games are similar. So if you weren't fan of 3 you probably won't be fan of P4/P4G.

I don't have a specific game genre that I like (just as with music). It's not that I don't like trying different things, but games like Superfrog aren't going to different. It's nothing innovative; it's nothing that I haven't seen before. I feel my gaming experience is beyond acceptable and it saddens me that you'd judge that for me.

I am sorry if you took it that way, but nobody (or at least certainly not myself) are judging you for your preferences. It is certainly your prerogative to purchase or play whatever games you like, and nobody is taking that away from you. I am simply explaining why some gaffers, including myself, purchase those games. The reason is: to play all sorts of different games, which don't have to be innovative btw, they just have to have variety and of course, be fun games, in order to get the most out of the library.

I haven't, for instance, bought superfrog myself, but I do understand why a lot of gaffers will buy it even if it does not have a 10/10 metacritic: they simply want to try a fun game and add diversity to their library. IMO, it is boring to not try and experiment with different experiences every now and then, and it lessens the amount of enjoyment you get out of the system. Your own opinion may differ, of course, but that isn't a problem.

I've been so busy... No Vita love this past weekend...

Just Dragon's Crown on suspend state in the skill upgrade menu

T___T

I want to finish my games! I want to!!!! Why does it feel like I don't have any time anymore?!?....

Yeah, this is how I feel. I mean, it's obvious that its not that there's not a lot of good games, but he's just not buying them. Similar to how he only has 5 games on PS3 despite there be so many amazing games there. If we like the hardware (and a lot of us just really like playing on the Vita), its easier to make our purchasing decisions there. I'm not going to wait until an "exceptional game" comes out on the Vita, or the PS3, or the Wii U. The only place I do that is on the Xbox 360, and that's because I don't really like the 360 otherwise. Maybe that's how it is for him with the Vita. He likes to game on PC, and doesn't much like the Vita and PS3, so he only gets them out for the exceptional games.

I beat Guacamelee and found the experience enjoyable, but there was a point where I was going to engage Calaca that i had to either choose to go back and collect treasures, or continue and beat the game. i chose the latter.

unfortunately, i don't think i'll be going back through and getting everything. I might just wait a year or so and replay it to finally do it

Really wish that sale was on in Europe.

Anyway, just bought a 32GB card. It's out of stock on Amazon UK, but coming back in stock on Wednesday, so I'll get it on Thursday!

I think having a 32GB card will make me play Vita more. There are some Plus games, and PSP games, I have in my download list that I want to play, but I can't be bothered moving everything around, deleting stuff, etc!

I currently have an 8GB card.

so im getting into p4g right now...

a little confused with how i should be spending my days as its so easy for the time to fly by...

can some one give me a basic run down?

what are social links for? should i be fusing personas? should i be leveling all my personas equally? are personas like pokemon? how do i get multiple personas for my other characters? is it better to enter dungeons to save people before the fog sets in or wait till the last day to do it?

Couple of quick questions:

1. What's the best shooter on the Vita? Killzone looks great, but need something for the time being. Love the Resistance series, but haven't heard great things about Burning Skies.

2. Does PixelJunk MonstersHD warrant a purchase if I already have the PSP and PS3 versions? How are the touch controls?

3. Never finished Persona 3 and not sure it was even clicking with me. Should I even attempt Persona4

1. Right now it's Unit 13. Good mechanics and varied gameplay. A lot of repeating levels though.

2. Absolutely! Touch controls are optional, and feel a little floaty but serviceable. I stick with the stick and buttons.

3. Haven't started my copy of P4 yet but from what I've heard it's pretty different from P3P if that's what you played.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/08/12/ps-vita-game-sale-celebrates-japanese-developers/

Vita game sale starting tomorrow, some really good stuff there.

Definitely picking up Muramasa next week.

thats a pretty great sale

will 100% get New little kings story - under 10$ thats a steal!

then i'll pick one or two out of these three probably....

soul sac
muramasa
MGS

i'm leaning towards muramasa and mgs - SS was a fun demo, but i don't think it was enough to sway me to liking that genre.

edit: oh man! and dynasty warriors!! maybe ill get Dynasty, MGS, and NLKS

In the earlier game, you should concentrate on boosting your attributes (knowledge, courage, etc.) by reading, eating at Aiya, and other things. You should also start working on your social links, which are the interactions you make with other characters in the game. Each important character has his/her own social link, and maximizing each social link gives you the ability to fuse the ultimate Persona for that link. Concentrate on increasing the social link level of your party members first so that they can assist you in battle.

You don't need to level all of your Persona. Just pick one or two you like and level those. You also don't need to worry about fusion until late game, but having a Black Frost around early-mid game will make your life a bit easier. Other characters in your party are locked to only one specific Persona, but that Persona can "evolve" once you max out your social link level for that character.

I don't think it matters when you complete the dungeon, but I usually try to do it as soon as possible so that I don't forget about the deadline later.

sweet! thanks man! that helps a lot... this is my first persona and i'm loving it already. I think I got past the slow intro part - in the
castle
dungeon right now.

Soul Sacrifice is a steal at that price. Especially with all the free DLC.
The Capcom ports are probably worth what they're asking if you're PS+ (UMvC3, SFxT).
Muramasa is an insane deal and I'm glad I waited -- whether I like the translation or not, $21 is a steal and I'm in.

Katamari/DoA5+/Dynasty Warrior Next are all good prices too.
Silent Hill back on sale if you missed it (I really liked what I played of it, I've been meaning to go back to it to check out the levels beyond the final story boss.)
NLKS if that's your Jam is under <$10.
Ridge Racer is almost tempting, except for the fact you'd still have to buy all the DLC to make it a full game.

I have about 75 Vita games, an almost NONE of the games on that list, lol. I'm not huge into most Japanese games. That being said, there are a lot of games on there I want. UGH. CURSE YOU LOW FUNDS AND TERRIBLE MEMORY CARD SIZES/PRICES.

Still in for Touch my Katamari and Ridge Racer. I want MGS HD Collection, UMvC3, NLKS, Muramasa Rebirth, and DOA5+, too, but I have low funds and I'd much prefer retail for those. Amazing prices, though. We'll see. May pick up at least one of those extra ones I want.

so im getting into p4g right now...

a little confused with how i should be spending my days as its so easy for the time to fly by...

can some one give me a basic run down?

Spending your days can basically be brought down to two activities: Social Links and raising your personal attributes. Generally, it is far better to spend daytime doing Social Links as you can only interact with a majority of them during it.

what are social links for?

The benefits of raising Social Links are part story development, part gameplay related. You may notice each Social Link is associated with a Persona arcana. The higher the Social Link level, the more bonus exp you are granted upon fusing a Persona of said arcana, thus reducing grind and generating powerful Personas in a shorter period of time. Furthermore, once a Social Link is maxxed out, you are granted an item that allows you fuse the strongest Persona of said arcana.

For Social Links that are also for your party members, you get extra benefits during battles. Things like follow-up attacks, helping other party members out of status effects (knock-down, dizzy) are examples of such benefits. Also, some skills for their Persona can only be obtained through Social Link levels.

should i be fusing personas?
The fusing of Personas is quite a complicated mechanic to master and I personally didn't delve too much into it. One of the main benefits of fusing Personas is to allow skills to be transferred to Personas that would not normally learn them.

should i be leveling all my personas equally? are personas like pokemon?
It's best to not get too attached to your Personas as they are expendable. You won't be keeping them for long until endgame, when you have fused the stronger Personas.

how do i get multiple personas for my other characters?
You cannot get other Personas for your other party members. It is an ability exclusive to the protagonist.

is it better to enter dungeons to save people before the fog sets in or wait till the last day to do it?
It's better to save the victim ASAP. There is no bonus for saving them earlier, but it allows to spend your valuable time without worrying about it.

Debating between Soul Sacrifice, Muramasa and the Metal Gear Collection.

What say you GAF?

Soul Sacrifice. omg that price makes me (almost) regret buying Day One :O

EDIT: thinking of getting
More or less confirmed
Silent Hill Book of Memories $7.50
Touch My Katamari $3.75
New Little Kings Story $9.79
Dynasty Warriors Next $8.75

Undecided between
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 $10.00
Dead or Alive 5 Plus $10.00

(maybe wait?)
Muramasa Rebirth $20.99

ANY VIOLENT OBJECTIONS?

thanks for posting those deals. really wish i didn't purchases SS now though :/

i will probably double dip on marvel so i can keep it on my card and give the cart to my son. not sure how it would work if I move my save from the cart to the digital game.

will get katamari at that price for sure. on the fence about a couple of those others but probably wont get any of the rest

Already have most of the games I want on the list so I'm just going to get Katamari Damacy and Super Monkey Ball to round out my library. Oh, and Guilty Gear.

Everyone else should get DOA5+ and Dynasty Warriors Next at those prices.

Good picks. UMvC3 and DOA5+ are both worth it IMO; they perform very well on the Vita. And I don't know when Muramasa will be on sale again so definitely get that too if you have room in your budget. It's a gorgeous game.

Once you complete it you can just carry on and solve puzzles. You dont have to start from scratch just for that.

I did dungeons as soon as I could so I didn't miss the deadline.

I worked on a mix of attributes and social links.

The main social links I focused on were my team members as they gain new abilities and eventually evolve their persona. Also completing the social link unlocks an ultimate persona to fuse. If one of them was there to be social with I would do that, other wise I would work on attributes. On rainy days go and eat the rainy day special.

I fused personas a lot because I found it fun and it was a faster way to get personas your level than to try and lvl up one you use. I tried to have one for each element so I could always crit the enemy and be immune to being crited.

You are special in the fact that you can hold multiple persona's. No one else can. Seems to be a running theme in these games (same thing in P3P), you are that rare person that can do this. So your team mates always have just the one persona which can evolve later on into a new version of itself.
