I absolutely loved the Hank's literal "shit or get off the pot" attitude towards Walt in this episode. I was certainly not expecting Hank to play his hand so soon, which means there is a LOT to be getting to in the next seven episodes.

Hard to believe that I didn't like the Jesse character at the beginning of the story. Now he's my absolute favorite and I'd love to see him come out of this alive and able to move on with his life. His Santa/Robin Hood act doesn't give me much hope, though. :-(

Great great episode. Like others, I was surprised that they put the confrontation between Hank and Walt in this first episode. I forgot how breakneck the pace was in the last season. Also, one of the best cold openings of the entire show.

I also feel a little bad because, like others, I found myself kind of annoyed that when we came back to Jesse he was still so fucked up. I know it makes sense for the character but I find myself a bit tired of watching Aaron Paul spend his scenes staring dully off into space, sometimes with tears in his eyes. He's a good actor and, after last season, it was good to see him actually able to do something other than look catatonic. Not proud of it but it was my first reaction. I'm sure I'll get over it as the season progresses.

I have a tough time believing Walt(Brian). One minute he seems like a soulless drug lord the next minute he is pushed up again the garage door and gives an expression like he would have given 3 seasons ago by looked like a scared fragile old man. Shouldn't he have evolved by now and be completely immune to such things?

He wants to be a drug lord. He thinks he is a drug lord. He's not. Walt has been a guy who outsmarted his opponents because his opponents always overlook what he is capable of. When push comes to shove Walt does some crazy shit, but deep down he has always been scared shitless of his business and the people in his business.

That episode was a straight up 10/10 and one of the better episodes of the series I feel. The pacing was perfect, cinematography and acting both on full display. That final conversation was so good.

It seemed to me he was trying to weasel out of Hank's confrontation but when he realized the jig was up his voice changes, it becomes more hard. Notice the delivery of "thats not going to happen" and "tread lightly" in comparison to the rest of his lines. He doesn't even outright admit it, he was just trying to play dumb with Hank but when he realized he couldn't Heisenberg seeped through.

Yep, took a page out of Homeland Season 2. Hopefully that's all they take from Homeland Season 2.

In no way Walt will commit suicide

Dude has always proven to have a crazy survival instinct and the huge ass weapon in the trunk just confirms this - he'll go out with a bang or at least try to

I'm going to make the bold prediction that we'll only see Lydia's power increase as the season plays out.

She's neurotic, yes, but I think she has the potential to be Gus' true successor. She's kind of how I envision Gus as he began to build his empire.

eat my shorts

There is no way Jesse and Hank die. I bet my collection of minerals on it.

What Gilligan said in an interview a few years ago changes especially when he's a room with six other writers. This isn't a Mass Effect 3 scenario where only one writer composes the ending and that's that.

I think Walt was being manipulative and tried to use the cancer card to calm down Hank. Look at how he acts around Jessie, cold and calculating with his lies, trying to put the person he's talking to into a certain state of mind so that he can get what he wants out of them.

He was just trying to make Hank feel bad for him so he would let him be and when he saw that it wasn't working he immediately changed his tone and threatened him.

He's been completely gone for a long time, he really is a monster at this point.

So now that everything but the finale has been spoiled, are we going to get people coming in here and 'speculating' with remarkable accuracy?

i'm so relieved they got that out of the way at the end. it'd break my heart if they had spread that out over the next 3-4 episodes.

I'm gonna feel super bad if she dies.

They did such a good job in just ONE SCENE to lay out the situation of her daughter, she's raising her alone, the dad clearly bailed on them.

Don't kill Lydia, Walt.

My counsel to you would be "COME ON"

I found some spoilers but they were fake, only the first episode spoilers were real taken from another source, the rest were made up.

Are we talking about the same thing? It was an imgur album

A) I didn't read any spoilers
B) If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, everything but the premiere was discounted
C) Quote someone if you're talking about them or everyone assumes you're talking about them

Yes, Walt is an ace manipulator. No doubt he pulled out cancer card to grab some sympathy from Hank.

He really knows what to say to get out of a bind. Always has.

i feel like everyone but walt will die.

a hollow victory

"I won."

I don't remember if it was Talking Bad or the Vulture post-mortem but I love that Gilly talked about the Writers' commitment to ending every episode with something big.

And this is just the FIRST OF EIGHT.

SEASON OF THE WILLENIUM.

Really good premiere. Walt changing his tone was so great at the end. I genuinely don't know what Hank is going to do.

Can't believe I didn't notice this earlier, Hank is standing in the light and Walt in the dark

I can't believe I didn't notice this earlier...but the fan is standing behind Hank, so it's a fan of justice.

I can't believe I didn't notice this earlier...but Walt has his back to the case files as if he doesn't give a shit, while Hank is FACING the evidence...

Let's keep going!

did we figure out what hank was actually saying when he said "something something ONE SHIT ABOUT FAMILY"

I always watch TV Series or Movies with subtitles or closed captioning, when available. The text I read was "You do not care SHIT about family."

But when I watched it what I heard was "Don't give me that shit about family." so, yeah.

That's one of the reasons I think she could be a good kingpin.

She has Walt's burning desire to protect and provide for her family, combined with Gus' meticulousness and logistical skill.

If she stabilizes herself, I think she could outmaneuver anyone.

I can't believe I didn't notice this earlier, the yellow toy car is foreshadowing a car accident

I can't believe I didn't notice this earlier, the yellow toy car is an explicit callback to the toy car when Hank is trying to get Marie to a therapist.

Can't play these games with a god-tier show like Breaking Bad, dudes. It actually all does matter.

Jesse sitting in front of the place he bought a gun at with five million dollars in the passenger seat?

OH GEE WHAT COULD THAT POSSIBLY MEAN, PROBABLY JUST A COINCIDENCE

LOFLLLLLLLLLLLLL
