Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

So alright, I finally joined PS+ last night. Also bought Dragon's Crown and Rayman Origins while I am at it. I also downloaded Dokuro and that one other game that I goddamn forget the name right now, hahaha.

I left my Vita at home downloading Touch My Katamari, God's Eater Burst, and Metal Slug XX.

So a question:

Suppose I download a "LaughingBanana" game for 'free' from PSN as a PS+ member. Then in the future I delete it to make space for something. Will I be able to re-download it again at no cost in the future, provided of course I am still subbing to PS+? If yes, is the same circumstance can also be applied if that LaughingBanana game is already not part of 'free' PS+ game promotion (provided of course, I downloaded it by the time it is still part of the promotion)?
Welcome to plus, bretheren. Anything you download will be in your DL history, and as long as you are a plus member, everything already on there is available to you anytime you wish.

I just picked up Katamari as well, been wanting it, couldn't pass up the price. Good fun so far, good break from the looting of crowns from dragons. Also, that Open Me demo is pretty slick, I may be picking it up. I love the AR stuff, I have all the AR games....I even made some AR cards that are poster sized. Those should make some killer boxes....

Once you download a free game from Plus it is always free as long as you are subbed. Regardless if it is still free or if you deleted it.

If Dark Souls II doesn't come to the Vita, I may just kill myself.

---

Those jaggies don't do the game any favors either. They could have at least used FXAA/SMAA.
And maybe it's the screenshot compression but those HUD bubbles in the bottom corners look like shit.

Ruh roh, graphics police. :P
Dark Souls II on Vita would be a laugh riot. :D

Ditto, in spite of my venerable age (27) and long gaming history, I've never played a Katamari game so this will be my first foray.

It's a pretty decent entry point -- I found it fun and I've played a large number of the games. The catch will be if you like the gameplay in the least... if so, you probably just got a steal for $4.

Precisely. So long as you put it in your download queue, it will treat it like you purchased the game for so long as you are a PS+ member.

Sony needs to give me some brownie points for this

LOL. I'm soooo doing this for my 3DS as well. Thanks for the
trolling
inspiration!

Holy crap, Totori is a huge ass file. I think all descriptions by people have convinced me to get it though. I'll just go delete BlazBlue since that file is ridiculously huge

Those Sly screens look great. Wish it was on sale for at most $15

Yeah I'd wait for a sale. I've been playing the game myself recently but it was the first to be deleted when I needed extra memory card space. The game's got some nice levels and the graphics look great on the Vita but I just found the gameplay itself to be way too easy (feels like it was tuned for a younger audience.)

How do I tell my 3DS to streetpass people with "Buy a Vita!" :D

Sly games have never really been "hard".
They're more... collect-a-thons.

Man, you really don't know? You never touch your 3DS, do you, hahaha.

Just set it up in your Mii Plaza.

I just finished Luigi's Mansion, but I've never really used any of the other stuff on it -- it all got dumped in a folder called "System" to get the crap off my home screen. ^_^

I just found it mucking around, but thanks! My Mii will now tell people to "Buy a Vita!"

Several of the time trials in sly 1 could be really brutal, but that stuff is completely optional with great rewards. Still, yea the series never was difficult.

I tried sly 3 for the first time in the HD collection...man I felt I outaged that game by decades. Kids probably find it cute though. Still half debating sly 4 purchase but if I gave up on 3 after bouncing around as Bentley in level 1, what hope does sly 4 have keeping my interest? Really dug sly 1 a lot on ps2. The sequels not as much.

I live in a big city and took my 3ds to work, college and even down to gamestop in a shopping mall and never got a hit on Streetpass or anything in mii plaza. Wonder if "My other handheld is a Vita" would fit with character limit.

LOL. I was in the same camp as well. I played MH3U well over 200 hours, and still didn't set up my street pass, nor played the SM3D that comes with the 3DS XL.

I did eventually set it up, but everyone that i streetpass with was playing Animal fuckin' Crossing.

I didn't realize this until today (- playing now on US account) that Miku kicks you out of the PSN just like Uncharted Golden Abyss did pre-patch.

Too late to fix this now?

Man, I thought we have it bad in here since well, Sony does not even have an official representative where I live, but here we have a routine meet up for 3DS and Vita every two weeks or so, so streetpassing is not a problem. The 3DS ones usually (well... always) have more people (around 20-30), but the Vita gathering typically can gather 8-10 people too.

Not too bad I guess, hahahaha.

Vita need an Animal Crossing badly. A cutesy life-simulator in the vein of Harvest Moon perhaps.

I get plenty of near hits but to be fair those are more like location check ins. Streetpass is more of i passed by you thing and i dont go to events or meetups.

Gotta try to beat Dragons Crown with Dwarf this week so i can i play some of these sale games. If anyone parties with a dwarf named Puck thatsa me!

I definitely agree with this. The Vita's touch and back screen has so much potential, and dual analog stick too.

Yup.

Come to think of it, Vita does not really have any 'cute' games like Animal Crossing, does it? Can't seem to think of anything... maybe Touch My Katamari? But no I guess.

I hope I am not too late to the parties since I only plan on starting Dragons Crown tonight :(

How long will it take before I can go coop and such?

I've played my 3DS a decent amount of times over the years, but I have no idea how to do that kind of stuff. I don't really like using the thing, so I only get it out when there's a game I REALLY want to play.

Heh, really? You think so? Maybe I'm just being pedantic but those screens don't look good to me at all. Since everyone has Nintendo on their minds, would those shots even pass for top-tier 3ds games?

I still think Sly 2 is the best in the series. I'd say TiT is definitely the easiest of the four.

Toro network felt like a lite attempt at Animal Crossing but bastarized with iap.

DC online opens up like halfway through your playthrough.

Glad that the "Buy A Vita!" 3DS Movement is picking up some Steam :P

We may even need this! :P #StreetPassBuyAVita!

Guys, do tweet @Imageform showing your support and tell them how much you want their games on the Vita! They have contacted Shahid so I hope it all goes well!

I played their first game Anthill iOS and it's an awesome tower defense game. You get to play with ants and defend your anthill against horde of angry beetles and more!

Their second game SteamWorld Dig is on the 3DS and is doing extremely well, both critically and within GAF!

I would love to have both their games on the Vita so tweet away! :D

(Dang I should share my Steam Greenlight collection that I named "Come to Vita")

Come on. A 3DS game will never look that good, if only because of the scale, resolution, and 3DS's poor screen. It's not the best looking game on the Vita by any means, but it looks a good deal better than any 3DS game.

I finally got my PS3 back earlier this week after 2+ months without it and started catching up on Ni no Kuni and some of the PS+ games in my backlog. For some reason, I feel like there's not a single game that I'd rather play on my PS3 than on my Vita.

Makes me want to get a 3DS just so I can set the StreetPass message to
"My other 3DS is a Vita"

[Beaten by Novocaine]

You can't do it, it only allows short message :P

"Buy a Vita" is probably the best anyone can do.

Yeah. 3DS cannot produce such vibrant colors, unfortunately.

What's the best looking Vita games? Golden Abyss? It looks great but... how should I put this... also "boring"... but that's just me being weird maybe.

Best looking Vita games for me are Project Diva f (in-game; menus and Diva room are blurry) and P4G, and these...
2D: Rayman Origins, Muramasa, BlazBlue, UMvC3
3D: Dynasty Warriors Next, Wipeout 2048, DOA5

I haven't played DC and KZM yet but those look better than most too.

P4G 2D models are amazing looking. Playing through this game for the first time, and I've put in 22 hours in like 3 days. :/

Killzone Mercenary is definitely the best game I've ever seen on the Vita graphically.

Yup.

Even with the bad resolution of screen grabs on PC, I think those shots look pretty good for a full console sly on a portable system.

I wonder if SCEJ would make another Patapon game for vita. Patapon 3 was a mess for me but I hate it to see such charming exclusives disappeared so easily. They could make something similar though. 2D side scrolling games with unique, simple art would look gorgeus if it specially made for Vita OLED.

Project Diva f, P4G, and DoA5+ don't even run in native resolution, so they're nowhere close to being the best-looking Vita games IMO.

Just cause a game runs in native resolution doesn't mean it looks good. And just cause a game isn't native res doesn't mean it looks bad. o_O

How could I forget Virtua Tennis--that game gave me my first "I can't believe this is on a handheld" moment.

That's fair. I almost didn't list those games because of this but what the devs accomplish given the sub-native res is impressive. Art direction goes a long way, especially in the case of P4G. But in terms of pure image quality, you're right.

Copying my MGS Peace Walker, P3P, and God Eater Burst to PS3 to make some room for the discounted game and man, the process sure is slow! What the hell that make it so damned so slow?

Well, Namco is being kinda nice lately. We have Xillia (and it's Multi-5 in EU), and they are going to release Symphonia HD (it's Multi-5 too) and Xillia 2 in 2014. And they bring P4G to Spain. Hopefully they can get some help for Sony and bring their games here. The Vita really needs some good JRPGs and I personally love Tales of... (specially their battle systems)

Namco Bandai's said multiple times that they're not interested in localizing the Vita games. Which means they only other option would be if SCE publishes them.

VitaGAF! Has this happened to you?

Its still charging but Im afraid one day it'll stop. I take good care of my cables, I dont know how it just frayed like that....

Im thinking about taping it up some but should I be buying another cable just in case??

Yep, this happened to my cable a few months ago. It still works.

Does the Fruit Ninja port run well? 60 fps and native-res? It's obviously too expensive now but I'll probably get it when it goes on sale, it's my favorite iOS game lol

OMG, I'm not the only one?!

Ugh, just downloaded Katamari but the download keeps stopping at 16MB. Anyone know how to fix it?

It's a stretch but maybe you have exactly 16MB of free memory left but didn't notice it?

Otherwise, try resetting your Vita and/or your router.

EDIT: Oh just realized the free memory can't be the thing since the Vita pre-allocates space for its downloads.

Dragon's Crown & Atelier...making public Vita time as a grown male awkward since 2013 ;D

I haven't bought either yet, but it's coming...That $20 I was saving in my PSN wallet for Spelunky never had a chance once I saw the words "Japanese Games Sale". The Classic Game Review of Atelier kinda cooled my jets though.
