RUMOR: Playstation 4 to launch October 21st

Dont want to be that guy, but has anyone seen the guys posting history? Just because you are in a position to know, doesnt mean you do.

As much as I want it to be true, I don't see this happening. Didn't a "high-up" at Sony say something along the lines that the PS4 wouldn't release before the next-gen xbox? This would of been way back when in the spring so I could have it wrong.

Are you thinking of when they said they'd let Microsoft reveal first? then revealed nearly 3 months earlier than Microsoft?

You mean the same Kaz Hirai who said they wouldn't make a move until after MS and then like a week later announced the unveil date for the PS4? Yeah, I'm sure they'll let MS sell Xbone first out of respect.

What does "verified" mean in this case? The person verified that they do indeed work at a major retailer? They verified that this retailer received the claimed notification by providing Bish with photo evidence?

haha, yeah I think it is possibly to compensate for feeling guilty about a purchase, or looking for another way to justify one. "it is my birthday, I deserve 'x' "

Not saying there is anything wrong with that, but I think that is where it stems from.
That makes sense.

Hasn't Sony been selling Launch day packages with Call of Duty/Battlefield?
Those games don't launch until later in October/early November.
If the date is true, those poor consumers that bought those packages expecting console on day one

Interesting how Sony is putting Netflix on the front of the box, I guess people really do buy consoles for media consumption

I've been using Netflix a lot on my PS3 as of late.

Just curious what my post history has to do with anything?
Not wanting to start an e-fight, but if you are gong to call my post history into question, I sure hope you looked at more than the latest page (where I just bought a vita and asked advice before purchasing an expensive sony headset) and actually read my posts before calling out my character. I don't post much so it isn't hard to make an educated statement on my history rather than half assed assumptions on my intentions.

It's all been going very smooth for Sony. If the launch date is 2 months from an announcement at Gamescom then tha's icing on the cake for the team behind the PS4.

Try harder, this is a little too subtle.

You might be confusing this for the time when Kaz said they'd wait for Microsoft to announce their next gen console first. Then Sony sniped 'em by announcing first.

It isn't that subtle... the red logo on the blue background really makes it stand out.

If the logo was less subtle it might be a bit obnoxious to the eye, don't you think?
I think it works just fine as a selling point the way it is. Effective too. PS3 is like the most used device for Netflix streaming I believe.

0.3/10

I think this will be the new PS3 12GB model instead for $199
but hell..... I'll die if this is the PS4!

This has literally been debunked a half dozen or so times in this thread. The person who originally gave this info said the 12GB model is listed in their system and it's coming in just a few days.

Sony hasn't been selling any packages. Bundles are being put together by retailers, but none are official Sony bundles.

Which I'm super excited for. May not be a system seller, but it looks damn fun.

Then I suggest you don't. We vet here for a reason.

Ok.

IIRC Its not a true bundle. They just sell a copy of the game with the system. If the game isn't available they shit you the system first and you get the game later.

Yep, this.

I put down for a copy of Knack though (seems like not many people did, but I trust BASED Cerny) which better be on a damn shelf and ready to be handed to me when that PS4 releases.

Hmm, i still debating hard whether to get one early or wait for Infamous. The price wont be dropping for at least a year and a half so that's not the issue.

i'd be glad if this turns out to be true. Have my launch edition paid off in full.

sadly I have no games yet. nothing has called out to me. i'm sick of AC after 3, and not too big into FPS.

If infamous was launch i'd be all over that

also holding out hope that gta5 goes next gen. gta4 made me buy current gen

I wouldn't put an october launch past Sony for even a minute. They're clearly aware of the momentum they've built since february, and a launch harkening back to the PS2 days would surely be something to capitalize on.

Do any cross-gen or PS4 exclusives have specific launch dates that are close to the 21st ? If any of them do then maybe but I expect the date to actually be sometime in November

Folks I know don't think it's october but none of them are in the room with the people that decide such things. I can say, however, that people working on launch games don't know what date the launch is.

Not saying that makes this not true - it's possible they just decided and it went out to retail before the teams working on games. But I figured that it was worth sharing what I know.

Why do he folks you know believe it's not going to release in October if they're not privy to those that are making those sorts of decisions?
My interpretation:

The games still need to be finished up.

The earlier the console launches the less mature the game development is. The later the console launches the more mature the game development is.

That's the basic launch title trade-off.

Some games can get away with it because they have a huge multiplayer component and therefor a patch after going gold is reasonable and others a patch is not as easily justified.

The launch day for Wii U was also quite a bad time, due to the firmware itself not being ready. First impressions stick, now more than ever if you google to research something.

Isn't it a little odd for the people making launch games not to know when their games are coming out?

I could understand if they weren't willing to disclose the date but surely they have some due date?

Interesting...
Have the launch games even gone gold yet? If they were told to wrap up and the games go gold, could they be certified, pressed and shipped by the Octobe date? ... Im highly doubting its October now. I kind of thought the games were being pressed as we speak. Then again, my whole assumption is that your post implies the teams are still working on the launch games.

I was kind of hoping it'd get a late October/early November release but with no news for this long who knows. I'd like this to be true.

any info on the KZ development status? can't see them releasing the console without KZ.

I'm not entirely sure. It's just, to a man, they all didn't think so. They were told a general timeframe of when the games would be going gold which is "sometime in october" which also points to a november release but obviously is not definitive.

But that doesn't mean shit won't change. They may walk in tomorrow and be told that it's Oct 21 and games have to go gold the first week of October.

As for my opinion... they are going to sell out whenever they release it. I don't think they feel a huge need to hurry. Driveclub, in particular, looks like it could use as much time in the cooker as possible. But Sony also seems to be going for the jugular so an early release wouldn't shock me either.

What a wishy-washy opinion I have. Jeez.

Launch of a new console is of course different in a variety of ways, but usually games go gold a month before release.

If it's end of October then at the earliest they would be going gold at the end of September, as Sony doesn't need to print the kind of volume that for example a Gran Turismo requires per game.
I'm even thinking that there are even games that will go gold a week later than others for the launch games, just because Sony will optimize the printing for development time and launch importance.

I think this is very likely. Sony has been constantly trying to 1 up microsoft on everything so far.

Microsoft painted themselves into a corner by saying the release date is in November, so sony is guaranteed to come out earlier by releasing in october

First party games typically go gold 2-3 weeks ahead of time. They constantly send builds to QA so that's not a hold up for them.

I think a lot of launch games are going to do what Microsoft already announced Forza is doing which is ship like 3/4s of the game and keep working on a day one patch to complete it right up until the release of the console. Driveclub especially.

Modern gaming...

Oh crap, I'm going to be on vacation then. And I have it preordered through Amazon; I was planning on taking release day off so I could be at home when it arrives. WTF am I gonna do now?

I'm down to whenever honestly.

October would be sweet since that's only a week after the ol' birthday. But November would be fine too. It'd be a glorious GAF week to have PS4/Xbone launch within a week of each other.

Would be such amazingly fun reading. I honestly can't wait.

No problem with that personally, and I fully expect it as well.

I didnt realize how close we are to the release of the next gen consoles...i need to start paying it off on amazon.

also, does anyone think a camera will be worth getting on day 1?
