Atlus teases new announcements this year, lots more next year

We know P5 is a console game and, uh, also Atlus isn't full of morons like Sega, so no, PS3 is not "unlikely" at all.
Now, now. We don't "know" anything. So everyone's theories are equally
in
valid :P

I seeeeeeriously doubt they're gonna give us a year leadtime on P5.
I would normally agree but they did that for SMT IV so... maybe?

Could someone explain this 25th anniversary thing? I thought Atlus was founded in 1986. Or did the company go under another name back then?
Megami Tensei I and II were published by Namco. It wasn't until after Megami Tensei II that they core members spun Atlus off into its own publishing label (to make Shin Megami Tensei). Hence why he specifies the 25th anniversary of the Atlus brand, not the company.

I see. The company was founded in 1986 and became a publisher in 1989. I didn't know Atlus started releasing games of their own so early as in 1989, but if one for example looks at the japanese boxart of Kwirk (Puzzle Boy) one can clearly see Atlus written on the box, so that makes sense.

Where does it say that they're teasing new announcement this year? Uh, not that I doubt they'll have at least one new announcement this year but he really only specifies next year in the article, though the Siliconera translation is different and just says that they they're going to have some news to share for the 25th anniversary rather than "many announcements." I don't know which is right though.

What... sense does it make, exactly? If they were going to do a handheld spinoff Persona, why wouldn't they do it on Vita?
This is what people seem to be missing. Like, they're holding unto that old Atlus 3DS list that had Persona on it. But hey, SMT was also listed for the PS3. Handheld Persona can only go to one platform after P4G.

I love it when people make statements like this. Reminds me of the "It's so obvious that Kingdom Hearts 3 is Sony exclusive it wasn't even necessary for Sony to say the game is exclusive!" from e3.

The fact is we don't know shit about what platform P5 will be on. All we can do is guess based on what Atlus has been doing and which platforms we personally have boners for. People should try and watch making definitive statements like this when there are "points" that can be argued for either platform.

This doesn't make any sense though. First, i doubt there will be any more handheld persona for a while, but there have been many examplesin the industry of things not turning out the way they seem.

Wow. Sucks to be you. :

God these persona ps4 hints are getting me all flustered

LOL to people that saying PS3 are unlikely platform for P5, frigging hilarious.

I see either PS3/360, PS3/Vita, or PS4 based on all the little hints mods keep dropping. PS4 just seems weird for atlus although they have supported the 3DS a lot early. PS4 would also explain where the hell its been for so long.

I just want the game to be announced already so this console begging bullshit can finally fucking stop. 400 posts of people begging the game to be on their favorite console and calling anyone who disagrees "retarded". Fucking disgraceful.

Hopefully we hear something this year, but I doubt it honestly.

There has never been a Persona game on anything other than Sony consoles, sans Persona 1 on Windows and P4A being released in arcade and on 360 as well.

Not that it's impossible, but I find it unlikely P5 will be on anything other than Sony consoles.

With how many examples of this kind of thing being broken the last gen i dont think anything is staying exclusive anymore. Of course one of the platforms will be a ps console.

Most probably platforms will be:

PS3/X360 (Catherine)
PS3/PSV (based on P4/P4G legacy)
PS3/X360/Wii U (due to SMT x FE partnership)

I don't see it as PS3 exclusive (since Caherine was also on X360) nor Wii U (lol userbase) nor PSV (no reason to make it exclusive when it could be multiplatform with PS3 easily) nor 3DS ( Persona is way too popular in west)

Unless some serious moneyhatting is involved.

Nothing worth pursuing stays exclusive.

Persona's big, but only relative to other niche franchises. The cost to go multiplatform on an RPG probably wouldn't be worth the return for Atlus and platform holders fighting over exclusivity rights would be like me wrestling my dad for the change under the couch cushions.

The irony is palpable.
I'm not denying possibility its gonna for 3DS or something like that which gonna make me hella salty but "unlikely" to me mean its have chance less than 10% to happening, are you confident to give that kind of percentage? because there's nothing to really suggest that. On other hand they supposedly make Catherine's engine for next Persona's game.

I found its really hard to believe P5 gonna be one of early title for next-gen.

Well we'll see. Atlus has talked extensively about their platform strategy in the past and I just feel that's the only logical conclusion to come to. There's no point selling P4G to an audience and not building on it down the road. I'm not saying Persona 5 vanilla will be there on Vita day 1, but that a version down the line is certainly very likely and consistent with previous Persona games.

This doesn't make any sense though. First, i doubt there will be any more handheld persona for a while, but there have been many examplesin the industry of things not turning out the way they seem.
Sure, but this time around we've seen Persona land already on one handheld early this gen. It's like saying, well, Etrian Odyssey V could happen on Vita...but the 3DS is the more likely outcome, by far.

Just to be clear, your post does say that since the only Persona titles to be multiplatform are Persona 1 and... Persona 4 Arena... as in, the latest entry in the series... it's unlikely P5 will be multiplat?

That's kind of like saying that even though Kingdom Hearts 3 is confirmed multiplat, Kingdom Hearts 4 will likely be Sony exclusive, no?

The way I look at it, Atlus has been involved in two HD games. Both have been multiplat. One has been Persona related. If P5 is an HD game, it stands to reason that it would be multiplat. But who knows? I personally see this assurance that it will be Sony exclusive as nothing more than wishful thinking driven by Sony love, a la Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3's assured exclusivity in the face of pointedly not being announced as exclusives. This isn't as bad as that, but if a brand new, HD, M-rated IP with box-pushing puzzler as the core gameplay (made by the Persona team!) isn't too niche to be multiplat, the idea that Persona 5 will be too niche to be multiplat just sounds ludicrous. But again, who knows? More importantly, we'll see.

We're all mature gamers here, right? We're all above console warfare and buy our consoles to play great games on that we want to play, wherever they are, right? Lol.

Persona 4: Arena was a fighting game (note: multiplayer). Not to mention during it's opening week, P4A sold about 13 times more on the PS3 than the 360.

When they return to the core series, I hardly see them wanting to venture back into multiplat land.

The biggest reason I could see this happening is due to the SMTxFE crossover.

My posts have -nothing- to do with console warfare, I hope you're not reading that from them.

7 months ago, Persona 5 was apparently a Sony exclusive. Do you think anything has changed? Maybe platform, maybe its existence even SINCE ATLUS IS GONNA DIE!!

P5 is clearly a PS3/360 game. I don't know about Wii U since Atlus seems to have an especially close relationship with Nintendo right now or Vita since P4G did quite well for a port. Maybe it's taking so long because they added one of those consoles to development?

Just give me my fucking P5 already ATLUS.

Nothing to strike really. I think most sensible people will respond with 'that makes sense' when it's announced. A minority will probably go insane, but since the series isn't that big, the outbreak should be contained quickly. There have been some changes since 7 months ago though (news was even older at that stage), from the look of things.

Good or bad?

They need to show a trailer for P5 already. Maybe the VGAs would be a good outlet ? I think the game could find a new audience, maybe ?

please give us a console P5

just started going through P3 again and considering ordering a new ps2 to play P4

yeah yeah i should get a vita. but idk i always fall out of love with handhelds to fast. having a ps4 and being able to play those games might convince me later on.

Highlighted a key term for you. The word "apparently." As in never, not once, never, ever confirmed to be a Sony exclusive. Ever.

Here is the only real fact that we can rely on as far as to what platform(s) P5 is going to be on: Atlus has never said. Ever. It was never announced Sony exclusive, it was never announced on PS3. It has not been announced and no platforms have been confirmed.

Every thread that is even going to think about talking about P5 ought to have this in the OP.

Oh, there's a post in this thread that needs to be in every pre-reveal P5 thread, but it's not this one.
