Kelly Clarkson buys Jane Austen ring, England won't let her leave country with it

It's not like the ring wrote Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen did. If it makes you feel any better, it's not like it would probably fit on Clarkson's finger anyway.

If we remember Jane Austen for her books then we read about her life in textbooks across the world, where do we picture her possessions of when she was alive? In an American reality star turned pop star's mansion? No, if we are to seek out historical proof of these famous writers, than I believe that it should be held in a museum. Just like many other valuable items are displayed. It protects the overall quality of the item and what it symbolizes. Having it locked up in someone's trophy case or on display in their house allows future students and fans of literature without a picture of what her life was like. I'm sure they can Google the ring, but what's the harm of just letting it sit in a museum?

This makes me think that historical artifacts aren't really being appreciated anymore and the respect we have for our past is slowing going away. Recently there have been 2 or 3 stories of young tourist destroying ancient artifacts and it blows me away. I don't know how long tourist have accidentally destroyed such things, but its kind of sickening when you hear that these people can't just be careful of what they're around.

I will admit, Ive always thought "Since Youve Been Gone" was alright.

Granted, that was the last time I paid any attention to her.

You really should listen to her My December album. It flopped commercially, but is easily her best work. Much more rock than the rest of her albums.

As a Brit and non-Kelly Clarkson fan, I think she would wait out until September 30 and then tell them to f-off.

And no it does not 'belong' in a museum. Surviving manuscripts, letters concerning her work, things that actually contributed meaningfully to the work that made her relevant to the countries cultural history would belong in a museum. Not trinkets that her family decided to cash in on.

I'm glad England is so honorable when it comes to making sure artifacts rightfully stay in their home countries.

Oh, wait...

Sorry, i should have said 14 year old girl's brain

Personal insults now? If you are going to slight them at least make them clever......

I love how some gaffers are offended by the fact that they personally are not the target demo of an artist. So they lash out by just labeling it bad.

Has she even read any Jane Austen novels? Probably became "a huge fan" after seeing a movie. They should quiz her on TV. Live.

I imagine this as like ... an episode of Mr. Bean where he accidentally puts the ring on the auction block and then is "Oh well no worries lots of free press and we'll just buy it back to ourselves! No harm no foul!"
And then the ensuing hilarity when american popstar walks through the door and just dumps hollywood money in their laps and RichMcduck.gif's out of the room.

I like you already, although most of those songs don't get much playtime from me anymore, sadly. I should go back.

They should quiz the average English citizen on Jane Austen too.

This isn't unusual. If you want to take something of historical importance out of the country there's a waiting period where other people who are going to keep it in the country can match your offer.

I'd rather our historical heritage stayed here rather than being a curiosity of some pop star on another continent.
