Grand Theft Auto Online: Official Gameplay Video, launches October 1st

They won't announce the next gen versions until this version is out, I don't see how you can think this is anti-consumer that is pretty ignorant to say.

I can't call the lack of announcements as anything other than disengenuous given the circumstances and timing of the games release.

trying to create an air of uncertainty to encourage double dipping is anti-consumer to me yes

I just made this real quick !

can anyone add more lol

worth every penny

You had me at Jet Moto.

I wish we could just play this mode alone haha. Just...create a character, and jump in the world of GTAV without any real story...just pure gameplay. It sounds awesome either way. But I'd like to create my own character and tell my own story on my own. But still...Game of the forever? Game of the forever!

It's games like these that make it SO hard to spend $60 on other games.

Crazy. The value is jut crazy.

Nailed it. I was just sitting here thinking back on the money I have wasted on titles that I'll blow through once and never touch again. I am going to stick with Gamefly and try to only buy the games I know will have long legs and be worth it. But this here is just on another level. Take notes, devs and publishers.

My opinion is still that they should have gone next-gen. GTA V is extremely ambitious project and both players and developers would have benefits from next-gen hardware. PS4 and X1 are perfect way to start online experience like this because Online is in their DNA, they are made to be connected.

So they should sell to a few million people instead of an audience of 150 million people? We only have the game we have BECAUSE of the install base and expected sales on current gen consoles. This game would be extremely gimped in budget if they had made it for next gen consoles only.

Even though the hype seems warranted here, I hope all you guys that hated GTA IV and are now salivating over this remember than when GTA IV came out it was just as ambitious, if not more so than GTA V. It also had a ton of multiplayer modes that generated an insane amount of hype. I loved GTA IV, and even though this does look better, when a lot of the hype settles I think they might be more similar than some of you guys might think. I’m worried about this being GTA IV all over again when it comes to backlash – mainly from the people that didn’t like GTA IV and are loving the looks of this. I don’t know, just something to keep in mind I guess. Then again I could be completely wrong and this really could be the GTA that everyone wants.

TL;DR: Keep your hype under control and remember what it was like the month before GTA IV landed.

They mentioned that when you complete a heist you need to deposit your money in the bank or risk losing some of it when you die.

Does that mean you can camp outside the banks and steal other player's cash as they come to deposit it? Bank camping?

This is silly
You can still get the new consoles

Last time I checked I never stopped playing
Old games, I just played some Coleco vision
yesterday played Dreamcast for hours...
If I am busy playing a AAA game Offline and Online, I will be TOO busy to play any other AAA games. Why would I buy a new console with new AAA games when I am still TOO busy playing GTAV?

CVG

Sure, the headline is that we'll have to wait two weeks for GTA Online, but that's not the story when 2013's biggest game is launching an online universe. A persistent online experience that potentially spans console generations... with dreams of recreating not just Los Santos, but maybe the world, in the cloud.

potentially spanning generations...............

Just assume its happening. Because its happening. But if you expect it any earlier than mid to late next year, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

So it doesn't sound like this is going to be a digital day one game on PSN. They explicitly say retail copies for a reason in the PR. Shame.

I also wonder how they're going to handle lock-on targeting Vs. free aim for the PvP stuff. That was my biggest issue with IV online. The default settings geared down to the lowest common denominator.

Free aim and blips on far was the only way to really enjoy the combat modes.

Not to mention the learning curve for next gen development. Rockstar has mentioned a few times how much more they can get out of the 360 and PS3 now because its a mature platform. GTA4 was kinda rough for a reason.

Personally I don't really dig MMOs anymore, I like having a world with only 8-10 people, so this is perfect for me. Kinda like how RDR worked, which was great.

On an unrelated note, all the college kids upset at the release date messing with their fall semester reminds me of when I was a freshman in college and I had GTA3, FFX, and all other great PS2 games that came out the year after release. It was magnificent, but my grades went down the shitter. :P

Ok, I'm not an MMMO fan much anymore either. I'm just failing to see how this is some persistant world when a player limit of 16 means there would be thousands and thousands of separate worlds each with only 16 people in it.

It sounds like it's the the city lobby from GTA4 but R* is trying too hard to make it sound like an MMO

No, this game is designed to stream things off your HDD while also streaming things off your optical disc. It's not designed to completely reside on your HDD. No digital copies of this game on console.

Oh for fucks sakes.

The duo agrees to hold up a gas station. "Masks on, yeah", one character says, before cycling through the Interaction Menu where you can select glasses, hats, masks etc. The masks are more than cosmetic: ditch it after the hold up, and you'll lose a wanted star. He dons a gorilla mask and bursts into the store. "Put the money in the bag. This is a stick up! Come on! Quicker!" At first we suspect the shouting is for our benefit, but AI characters will react to the urgency in your voice, stuffing money more quickly in the bag.

Why do you love us so good, Rockstar?

I would pay £39.99 for GTA V alone.

I would also pay £39.99 for GTA Online alone.

Jheeze Rockstar, you guys are insane.

R* Haters are on suicide watch Saint's Row better than GTA? EL OH Fuckin EL
I told you guys R* are the best now you see!
I don't even like multi that much besides fighters.
This blew my god damned mind!
I love R* even more than psycho Nintendo fans worship Nintendo.

So in love with GTA V and it releases on my bday hopping my gf gets it for me.

Let's hope so. Can you imagine? Join a game and see 10 people fighting around an ATM, constantly picking up wallets and trying to deposit the money. Invite a couple pals and pull some A-Team shit on em all.

This has to come to next-gen.

With how popular and long lasting GTA4 has been online..this game may be around forever.

This game is way more than I was ever expecting out of GTA. The wait has been a long time, but it's going to be oh so worth it.

It'll probably come to PS4 and XBone eventually.

I don't know why we have to keep having this discussion in every GTA thread. I always thought port begging was bannable...

If this were only for next gen consoles it would not bet this ambitious. R* is clearly looking to outdo themselves with V, and part of that probably means outselling GTA IV's 25 million copies sold, with super strong sales up front. That ain't happening on new consoles. Not for 2-3 years at least.

If this is true than 95% of GAF should be banned because EVERY thread for a console exclusive there's 1000 people begging for it to come to PC.

Budget size. GTA IV had a potential audience of a few 10's of millions and their game creation budget reflected that number. This game has over 150 million potential buyers and their game budget reflects that expanded audience, double the development time, double the manpower, double the familiarity with the console hardware, etc, etc.

CONTENT CREATOR HMGGHHHH

And the Gamespot article implies that Rockstar are looking to expand it.

Actually, that's the biggest kicker here - Rockstar adding new content to it continuously. Fuck, if they keep adding in new missions to the MP then it'll be a real game for the long haul.

I didn't see anything in that linked article earlier about Rockstar deciding not to ever do an expansion again, also.

The more I see of this game, the more I find it difficult to accept that they're releasing it on the worst possible platforms.
What difference would the young hardware of the PS4 and One make? Moar grafficks? Come on...focus on the gameplay.

Also in the case of 16 players, play it first before you decide what the right amount is.

It could just be this is the starting point. And that Rockstar will work towards an MMO experience. With of course a F2P model with loads of micro transactions. It makes sense to me.

But it would probably have made more sense to release GTA Online on PS4, Xbone and PC. And release GTA 5 on the current platforms. That way they could expand and update GTA Online for years to come and keep releasing singplayer 'packs' alongside of it.

I'm still pretty confused by the direction Rockstar is going with it I must admit.
