Grand Theft Auto Online: Official Gameplay Video, launches October 1st

Bahahaha

Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies said GTA Online could have launched at the same time as the main game, but that the studio considers it to be "a different entity, a separate thing".

He explained: "It'll be GTA Online; it's not part of GTA 5. Obviously it's set in the GTA 5 engine, but it's going to grow and evolve into its own thing." Access to GTA Online will come for free with every retail copy of GTA 5.

So I guess online is not going to be considered when reviewing the game? what about when it comes to goty awards?

DEAR GOD ALMIGHTY

Rockstar just won videogames.

My eyes bulged then my jaw dropped, then it fell off, and I scurried to pick it up but I ended up knocking it under the couch and it got covered in dust-bunnies and then my cat ran away with it and I'm completely fucking jawless and drooling and holy freaking goddamn shit Rockstar, you did it, you really fucking did it!

i feel that it's better that way .

-Because they can use that money to maintain GTAO servers

-Because there is this feelign that the solo game will be complete on his own ( and not cut to be made dlc )

lol aside from south park & BF4 , you have nothing but open world games.

I won't have to buy another game for 6 months lol

Looks amazing. So this "83 days" people were wondering about in the fourth character slot of the first gameplay trailer... Was that 83 days until the online was activated at the time the footage was taken?

Too lazy to cross-reference.

Somebody be a hero.

Well I certainly hope that this small indie developer receives the successful launch they're looking for.

Not likely. I don't this game has received anywhere near enough buzz to be successful.

It's going to be the biggest commercial failure this side of minecraft.

Unexpected amount of effort and improvements. A worthy send off to this generation of consoles, no doubt.
If this all pans out well, I wonder what more there is to accomplish with the series in a modern setting. Shooting already seems on par with Max Payne 3, one of the better TPS' of late and the world seems expansive as ever. Visual quality can be improved no doubt, but this already seems like the ultimate GTA.

But then again, that's why they get paid the big bucks - to figure it out.

So how does this work, every time you log in online the game puts you into a random "lobby" that has 15 other players? And this city is different than the campaign city, with different missions? The video didn't really explain all of that.

Every GTA V thread has at least one person claiming that "this can't be done on current consoles. It's next gen/PC."

Yea, but the differences between the trailers are blatantly obvious. Some clearly look current gen, some it's harder to tell.

I don't want to be too pessimistic here, but I think for an online mode to really work, it needs more then just a awesome feature set and a nice trailer wrapped around all these features. A great online experience can be ruined by so many things, lag, bad matchmaking, too much downtime between action, bad player segmentation across game modes, exploits, bad balance - the list goes on.

rockstar does not have a good track record when it comes to all this and while the features do sound impressive in theory, I seriously doubt that they will be able to deliver a multiplayer experience that has a true lasting appeal. The SP on the other hand, i think will be one of the defining gaming moments of this generation.

lttp: looks fantastic

and by "looks" I mean what the online is and what you'll be able to do, cause these console textures are making me ill

nvidia pc leak thing better be true

Yep. It's the countdown to when GTA Online unlocks.

I have, but not MP. Do they just throw balance out the window, or do they somehow make it work?

I didn't think it worked out too well in RDR. Since you get all of the good weapons by leveling up, shoot-outs with high-level players seldom play out in your favor even if you had better aim.

So now I get it.

You know the selection circle? Trevor, Michael, Franklin and your online character? I am rewatching the gameplay reveal trailer and there was this number on your greyed online character - 83 days.

Now I won't try and do the math here, but I guess that now it would be cut by the days the trailer was released until now, with remaining days to launch of the GTA Online.

This looked ridiculously good. Bloody hell Rockstar.

On a side note, no way this was a current gen version. PC or next gen for sure. Textures, IQ, shadow quality etc all better than the previous PS3 trailer.

I heard if you say "textures" three times Dennis appears.

In MP combat, will people be able to just carry a rocket launcher with them at all times? Like, could they potentially stock up on weapons and ammo and be toting the entire weapon wheel with them? That doesn't sound very balanced, lol.

Sounds like no, maybe in freeroam, of course. In the CVG preview, they mentioned how before a heist they all had to go to Ammunation and get heated. Now, maybe they did that just for posterity in the demo for some dramatic effect... But maybe not.

Also, I'd imagine rocket launcher ammo might be hard to come by.

Looks phenomenal I expected nothing less with the idea that a whole second team was working on this.

Looks like all the annoyances that plagued GTA:IV have been looked at and fixed. Movement looks improved tenfold. But R* finally nailed that in Max Payne 3. It's almost sad as a lot of games are going to get blitzed come the release of this having MP come later is a master stroke and the idea they build on it even better.

Looks like they've been inspired by mods like GTA multi. So looking forward to it. Kind of funny they've released this in the week of SR release a game which has basically given up even attempting to do interesting MP.

- can't believe it will look&run like this on current gen. Also not with that IQ.

- would really like them to simply mention a next gen version. Graphics wouldn't be much better, but they could release a console GTA with smooth high-res IQ and stable framerate.

Considering they unlock online after the SP, do we know if there will be rewards taken from SP into MP? (or mission unlocks, shared ingame money etc.). It seems you will build a character from scratch and then play a second GTA game basically...

PS4/GTAV launch bundle incoming!

Well..

Gameplay trailer reveal was July 9, 2013.
GTA Online launches October 1, 2013

Between July 9 and Oct 1 there are 85 days.

You damn well might be right.

Nuts.

Apparently if you shout 'Quicker!' into your mic while robbing a store the clerk will throw the money faster into your bag.

Yeah, the GTA V'oclock guys said that is true. So when you get GTA V on September 17th in the 4th character slot it will say 14 days.

This is exactly what I expected. Looks great. I'm not a multiplayer guy and will mostly play single player but I may play online here and there.

That final shot in the trailer is so cool, wow.

The shot with the tennis player looking up at the airplane somehow felt amazing too, not even sure why.

I understand that people are a bit upset that it's only 16 players max. Really though, with the added story/character elements and plenty of co-op activities, I think we'll be grateful for the breathing room. GTA IV's free roam was really barren. You could drive things, you could shoot each other. Nothing much beyond that. In THAT context, yes, 16 players is a bit on the shitty side. On the other hand.. if I'm trying to rob a bank I'm going to want as few assholes running around with RPGs as possible. It seems like it will be a great environment to go online with a few good friends and play some multiplayer GTA the way we've always wanted to.
