Grand Theft Auto Online: Official Gameplay Video, launches October 1st

You know what I'd love for DLC

Like remember the Halloween part of Bully? I'd like to see something similar to that with lots of 'urban myths' around Los Santos. Kind of like Undead Nightmare but without the actual zombies.

So wait we get Massive online,Massive Single player and a content creator if the story is good as the content and gameplay looks we could have the game of the generation here

I am not a big online gamer, but this has really piqued my interest.

Rockstar could release this for $30 as a standalone and sell well. The fact that its a free add on is just icing on the cake.

well the op mentions GTA V like 10 times in the press release so im confused. this is a totally seperate game from GTAV then?

OH NOW I SEE. never mind me dumb

Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies said GTA Online could have launched at the same time as the main game, but that the studio considers it to be "a different entity, a separate thing".

He explained: "It'll be GTA Online; it's not part of GTA 5. Obviously it's set in the GTA 5 engine, but it's going to grow and evolve into its own thing." Access to GTA Online will come for free with every retail copy of GTA 5.

.

Wait, what the hell...

Was that Big Smoke?!?

The amount of enthusiasm behind creating the ultimate online world at Rockstar is definitely evident in this video.

I remember when RDR online was first described to me and I stood in awe listening to it.

Any indication as to what they mean by "persistent world"?

Is it like me and my 15 buddies have a server that we all log in and out of and keeps going even if we're not there? Kinda like minecraft or a (reallly small scale) MMO?

Or do they just mean your character's progress is persistent, ala CoD or any other multiplayer game these days?

Really want a mode that is assassins creed style. You get someone to kill and someone else simultaneously has you. You have to try to act as much like an npc as possible or you will stick out. Obviously they would need to section off the map for this because it would be crazy over the entire map. I think that would be a blast though

My guess:
cars you customize and own will always be yours
Same with property.
The things about stock, sounds like it would be persistent across everything.
Then there's this whole "rival" game function, that fit under "persistent" world.

....GTA:Online is the only GTA online game you will get, but it comes with GTAV and takes place in the same area.

This, is, just about the absolute correct answer, to all questions. Ever.

I am willing to bet that San Fierro and Las Venturas will end up being expansion packs to GTA Online in the future seeing as how they keep saying it will expand over time

I didn't know GTA had monsters and mech. What a great input to the thread!

Not sure if this is aimed at me or not.

Sorry for going off topic, I agree with you this has nothing to do with GTA, which was my point in the first place.

the designs of this game are beautiful

its called just X?

Yep, for now, I think the final name will be something random like Xenostar or something.

What if my friend and I both buy the same property in different games and then play together later? Instanced apartments?

Carrying cars, reputation, money, etc across games doesn't sound like a "persistent world" to me, sounds like a persistent character.

Holy crap! This looks amazing...I might actually skip Saints Row IV for this now - never thought that would happen :P Looks great...as long as the shooting is fixed (please for the love of god).

The game uses the shooting mechanics of Max Payne 3. In other words it has the best third person shooting mechanics out there. Yeah the shooting is fixed.

It'll be just like Red Dead Redemption. It will load 15 other players around you and if you decide to drive to another part of the map the game will phase those players out and phase in new people close to you.

Although it seems like GTA V will pick the types of people nearby that it will load such as giving a priority to friends and people your skill level. So no, you won't be creating your own servers. You will see random players all over the place. I am guessing things like the stock market and economy will be player driven. Apartments and garages will pretty much have to be instanced.

So it's pretty clear at this point that there's only a max of a 5 star wanted level. Pretty much the only disappointing thing about this game so far. And still no confirmation if the Rhino is in. I know this isn't online related but the max 5 star wanted level was just something I noticed watching the trailer.

Not too worried for tanks not coming after me but if at 5 stars I don't get jets trying to kill me ( especially if I am in the air) then that would be a disappointment.

i don't even know where to start with this trailer. so much shit. robbing liquor stores with friends is enough to get me excited.

looks like i'm finally getting into GTA multiplayer. unless it has auto-aim again, even as an option.

I don't remember this ever happening in RDR.
