Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Don't be biased. Falco shared many similarities with Fox, but they played little different tho.

I know Snake wouldn't come back to SSB4. It's obvious but get rid of Toon Link, Falco and Lucario.

We don't know if Falco is holding anyone back. He has been in two games now, has a vocal fanbase, and become even more distinct in the last installment. Lucas shares similarities with Ness but you aren't calling for his head. Snake and Toon Link are obvious cuts in comparison. A third party character and one character that already exists on the roster.

This can all be seen as a matter of bias and only Sakurai's bias will matter in the end.

Toon Link plays very different from Link. Link is heavy and slow, Toon Link is light and fast.

But shares almost every move with Link and is the SAME EXACT character.

blah blah reincarnation blah blah

Why do so many people want to see characters be cut? I think most of the cuts from Melee to Brawl made sense (except Mewtwo), as they were just clones that were added to fill the roster. Brawl still had clone-like characters, but I believe each one deserved their spot on the roster. Brawl's roster was amazing. I see no reason to make any cuts from it.

I understand why people think Snake might get cut, but even though I'm not too fond of him being in Smash Bros. (if there was any character from Brawl that I think didn't belong, it would be Snake), I'd hate to see him leave now. His franchise has already been represented in Smash Bros. now, and I'd hate to see the removal of an entire franchise. Besides, Metal Gear is just zany enough to fit in Smash Bros. Snake's secret codec taunts were awesome, and I like how his character was portrayed with some humor.

Also, didn't Sakurai recently say that no cuts have been made at the moment, and that they're striving to include as many characters as possible? Why, then, should we be anticipating cuts? The more, the merrier, after all! If they really want to include as many characters as possible, it'd be silly for them to cut ones that they already have a base for.

Smash has a history of cuts, ever since the original, people are just bracing themselves for impact. And some are even applauding the sharpening of scissors and sounds of clipping, but I don't know what kind of sick individual would enjoy that.

I'm pretty sure the context of this phrase indicated that no character they wanted to have had yet been cut due to the 3DS version, not that no one had been cut period.

Yeah, the grapple hook and deku leaf could be used well for Toon Link. And the handheld games with him have plenty of possible moves too.
Link's most iconic weaponry and tools are those he uses in Smash; regardless of whether or not they share the moves, Toon Link should have a Bow, a Boomerang, Bombs, etc. Replacing them with one or two-off items just to be different would be like having a second suited Samus use the Dark Beam or something over the ability to drop Bombs or shoot Missiles or Screw Attack. It's not a good way to represent the character properly.

I think Ken and Akuma should be cut from the next Street Fighter. They're both practically the same character as Ryu and removing them would leave space for more varied options.

actually no it was the interview where he said he was under alot of pressure to try to keep everyone's character in, everyone wants him to bring back roy and pichu and the like, but also keep the characters from brawl, and he felt so overburdened because he knows not everyone's favorite character is going to be in the game but he hasent made any cuts to brawl's roster yet

Who was cut from SSB to melee? That's the only other spot it could happen to become "a history of cuts"

If I had it my way, everyone from Brawl would return. Of course I'd tweak around the moveset on some characters though. Maybe you I would swap out some characters here and there, but it's pretty diverse.

I've fallen in love with Brawl's roster, easily the best one we've got in the series so far. And I am expecting Smash 4's to top it. I not one of the people who will bash the game if one of my dream characters didn't make it. I would probably get over Sonic returning if that ends up being the case.
I would cry if Sonic didn't return though
.

Sakurai sometimes makes it seem if they're taking the Soul Calibur route when it comes to 3rd party. We won't know until later though since Smash added third-party much later on.

Roy, Mewtwo, Dr. Mario, and Pichu of the top of my head.

I think that's it.

The only one on there worth bringing back is probably Mewtwo since he had his own moveset. The others? :lol

Roy was cool though, maybe if they gave him a new moveset he'd work. I want a female FE rep so bad.

Eh, I personally wouldn't mind considering they have regular Link to represent that stuff. Not like you have to change the most iconic moves either, they could replace the up-B with the deku leaf or something for more variety with a move that actually let him float in the game.

That's coming from a gameplay standpoint of not really wanting another total clone.

"pfft, i don't care about street fighter so your example doesn't mean a damn thing"
I wish they'd stop offering pepperoni pizza. Sausage pizza is practically the same thing I don't know why anyone would care when they can have what amounts to the same thing anyways.

Yes I know you were joking but people won't stop.

I gotta hand it to the development team for the detail in Luigi's gloves! I so psyched to see the final cut. Smash in HD is gotta be totally stellar.

There were characters planned for Smash Bros. 64 that never made it in the game. One of them being Bowser.

I think Ken and Akuma should be cut from the next Street Fighter. They're both practically the same character as Ryu and removing them would leave space for more varied options.

That isn't the same situation as Link and Toon Link. Ryu and Evil Ryu would have been a better wisecrack.

I won't stop picking at scabs.

I would be pretty happy if they dropped Snake. He's just not even close to the same pedigree as Sonic or MegaMan. Honestly those are the only two third party characters I think I'd ever be 100% okay with in a Nintendo world. Snake can go hang in PS All-Stars.

Maybe I am just not very good at understanding Smash Brothers but as far as I know none of the clone characters have ever played even remotely similarly. Toon/Link is no exception to this.

Granted, I will admit I'm looking at this purely from a mechanics standpoint. I understand that not everyone cares about the actual fighting mechanics in Smash Bros, which would make the complaints a lot more logical, really. That said, those of us who have spent time to learn these "clone" characters feel pretty bad when their unique fighting styles are removed.

...I miss Dr. Mario. :(

i'll kill you

I'm sorry but Falco and Lucas are my main characters and i'm willing to give them up to keep characters with unique movesets but I do want to keep them. Not every characters would remain in.

He seem to implying that characters being cutting could happens so we don't know how much. I hope "VERY FEW"

Namely you. ;P

Their moves do the EXACT same things and everything! GAWD WHY WON'T SAKURAI DO SOMETHING
I get that people love his moveset in Melee but I don't see why they can't just paste it over another F-Zero rep like Black Shadow or even Goroh (with a few sword moves thrown in I guess) and give Ganondorf the proper attention he needs. Two birds with one stone and all that jazz.

I mean, it's not something that has me foaming at the mouth and if it happens again then whatever the game will still be fun
besides for Anthony
, but I think it's dumb with Brawl that they hesitated to change him up dramatically. What was intended for him in Melee's early development when he still had that huge ass sword?

Ganondorf and Wolf I consider good clones and would not want them changed. They have similar movesets to their base characters but they differ enough to be unique. Also I like them both better than the characters they are cloned from.

I never liked this suggestion since I feel it'd be a waste of a new character. Just patch up Ganon's mobility and toss in a sword move or two.

It's just lame as hell that such an important character like ganondorf is essentially a knock off captain falcon, even if I enjoy playing him and understand the differences. I don't see it as a waste to do this as ganondorf would basically be all new and black shadow would still keep the moveset people enjoy. It would also work from the angle that fox/falco/wolf are under having 2 f-zero reps that are similar.

I am well aware that Link's arrows act differently than Toon Link's arrows, I am not saying the properties of the moves are the same. I am saying if someone has to get cut that Toon Link would be a better choice than characters like Falco or Lucas. Not only do their movesets offer more variety, but they are unique individual characters... BLARGLE! meh. ehh. Screw it. Just put this guy in.

He will have the awesome distinction of having a fart that isn't as smelly but charges faster and a shoulder charge that sends opponents more upwards. He will be lighter and faster as well. VARIETY. CHOICE. PRIORITIES.
