Persona 4 Arena Sequel Announced [Japanese arcade-only update for now]

P4 Arena was the most confusing fighting game ive ever played - i just couldnt get into it as i had no idea what was going on. It looked great though.

I only played the first in Akihabara was really fun, hopefully the UK doesn't get shafted this time. Though if it's for PS3 and comes out mid next year I'll still consider that shafted.

So I see you are an optimist.

Region locked and delayed so heavily it gets cancelled due to the current gen market being dead.

I know that's the worst case scenario, but I can actually see that being a possibility. At this point I'm just hoping for region free so I can import and forget about waiting for an EU release.

JUNPEEIIIIII

also PSA: any UK gaffers should make their way to Dundee, Scotland as we grind P4A hard and are likely to run tournaments for this new en' if it ever comes out over here.

I'm more worried about this getting ported at all.

Eh, arcsys is usually good with bringing their arcade updates to consoles. I can't think of an instance where they didn't.

Also, seeing that for them Arena is a pretty big success, I see no reason why it won't get ported.

Yu at least was a badass sounding name with a badass meaning.

Makoto is like they came up with an official Hamuko name and gave it to the male MC.

Makoto is badass it means truth. Also I have heard Makoto used for male and female characters.
Now love the name.

D : <

It's actually pretty simple compared to Arc's standard fare. Either way, looking forward to this.

It's the only ArcSys game I've ever liked. If they fix the balance issues, I think I'd get into it more.

Yeah, it's simplified, but for the most part it has enough depth for legitimate mindgames that were offensively based- I think this is why some VF folks liked the game. (GentThief entered a few tournies for it)

Yes, I think the top 3-4 characters are hurting the game and its reputation; the other ones are way less "braindead" and flowchart-y to play.
Can't wait to see what they did with Liz, and I'll probably try Yukari as well...

My fear.

Leave it a year and no-one's going to buy the fucking thing. Again. Oh yeah, and don't price it at $70 plz

seriously. I only bought the original because i was dead desperate to try it after so long. If they pull that shit again no way I'm biting on it. What a scam.

So how much of a "sequel" is this really? My gut tells me labeling it this way is arbitrary. I don't feel like in this day and age, one year is long enough for a true fighting game sequel.

I find Arc to be the most egregious in terms of bringing out full priced updates with little added. Say what you want about Capcom, they are handling it fantastically w/ Ultra. Trying to grow the userbase doesn't work this way. Bought P4A, but still barely touched it :( I need to stop buying their games.

Hmmm, this update has way more content than USF4: a new story mode, new stages, new characters, new gameplay mechanisms, and existing characters reworked more than just frame balancing (losing some moves / gaining some moves).
I agree the "sequel" thing is a bit far-fetched, but comparing it to Ultra is a bit misinformed...

Arcsys is already growing the userbase by creating and releasing good fighting games.

Also "little added", lol.

well lets see:
- New UI

- New/Remix stages based on screenshots

- SP Skill Boosts (EX Supers) Cost 75 Meter

- The characters Persona Card amount vary between characters now ( Akihiko has 2, Yukiko 5, Yukari has 4, Shadow Lab has 6 and Elizabeth has 7 etc)

- Each character has new moves/full balance change

- Junpei as a baseball player appropriately has a baseball diamond UI for his 'gimmick' like Naoto death cards, Lab Axe meter, Yukiko Fire level etc, no idea what it is though.

- Yukari looks like a Power Ranger/Superhero but as expected is another zoning character that utilizes bombs and wind orbs while zoning with arrows. Her 2A is a slow low.

- Shadow characters don't have a burst but their tradeoff is...
They start round with 100 meter and have "Shadow Fury Mode" that drains their meter but allows them unlimited usage of ex specials and supers for a brief amount of time.

- Shadow Lab (Shadow Shadow Lab?) and Elizabeth don't have Shadow selves.

- Highly likely at least two more characters because of empty spaces

I can definetly see this as a sequel

Can't wait to play it in PALand
in 2015 lol
I hope they won't fuck up the whole region locking again.

Also, I can't wait for :
- New storylines tying to Persona 5 ? Yay !
- New characters apart from Stupei and Yukari
- Stupei and Yukari's shadows :d
- Remixes for "Darkness", "Burn my Dread" and "The Battle for Everyone's Soul" (one can dream right ?).

Ok, fair enough. My bad. Trying to multitask, and I should have read more closely. What is the pricing going to be? Hopefully $40. I think in general full $60 releases a year later are pushing it for fighters that come out a year or less after the prior version. The Ultra comparison was in terms of providing a cheaper upgrade path that's not as alienating. They could find a way to do-it tech-wise if they really wanted, but I understand Japan doesn't like DLC. Also probably a data size issue, so understandable but still frustrating for casuals.

Elizabeth has 7
Nay, Elizabeth has 6, just like Shadow Labrys. :(

Still WAY better than 4, though! :3

As i commented on siliconera either dlc for 3-4 dollah (after the debacle of p4a us eu it's a slip price to pay to keep some dignity) or i'll wait for 14 eur bomba :)

Shoryuken article said:
In the new P4A, when choosing a character, a type is also selected. You can choose between Normal type and Shadow type (Elizabeth and Shadow Labrys do not have Shadow type).
Wait, that means we'll also see Yu's shadow ? MMh maybe it'll have some relevance in the plot ?
