Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

believe what you want bro i'm just talking about the console launch not the 'future'

It's three exclusives versus four. I'm not seeing this "much better lineup" personally. It really comes down to personal tastes more than anything.

Far as I can see, it's pretty clear that both MS and Sony made conscious decisions to avoid putting too much up at the launch window that's going to be cannibalized by BF4, CoD, AC4, and W_D anyway.

And do not leave the tubs. Take an example from a true enthusiast:

I'm ready.

because its different this go around. They are launching a console within weeks of a competitor that has a very good launch line up. So its going to get compared

It's much better to have releases spread out in the first year than packed together on launch day. That way it assures the console will have releases following the launch, will allow said games to get extra development, and gives them all breathing space of one another.

Xbox One still doesn't have the better launch! Microsoft blew their wad at E3 with CGI trailers, in similar fashion to what Sony did in 2005/2006. The tables have turned, man, just face it. Sony still has many slots left to fill with their unannounced games.

My heart says October but my head says November especially now MS have seemingly taken their foot of the pedal slightly by launching in less countries. Just makes me feel that the publicity alone gives Sony that little extra space to fully "bulk up" for launch, maybe I'm reading to much in to it? I usually do?

...So again, I'm not seeing how this comparison puts Sony in an unfavorable position. You say it's compared to a competitor with a "very good launch lineup" with the obvious implication that the PS4's own would potentially be in an unfavorable position. My point is that they're really not all that different, personal tastes aside.

Exactly. Most people are only buying two or so games with their new console at launch. It's extremely crowded at launch as is. Personally I think Microsoft should have kept either Forza 5 or Ryse behind for early 2014. Whichever got held back could have added polish, content or features and probably sell better too.

that'[s one way of looking at it, but then most people dont buy consoles until there's actually a game worth buying (killer app).

I mean, you can say its better to spread the games out but when the PS3 came out the PS3 didn't start getting really good sales until MGS4 came out

Xbox One has a killer app? Since when? I can get Titanfall on my 360 or PC.

Planetside 2 gameplay would be nice. Add that to Order 1886, Shadowfall's
hopefully
KZ2esque MP, and some UI demos and I'd be totally satisfied. Can't wait til Tuesday.

And what's a "killer app" to you may not apply to someone else. Killzone: SF may be that "killer app" to some, who's to say? If not, Sony has The Order:1866 and InFamous: SS on the horizon. Surely those are games to get people excited over. All that goes without saying that Sony has many unannounced games from major studios.

I'm praying they do... I ordered that useless thing already... LOL

Man....I've discussed already before in another thread, even though there haven't been any games announced yet for the PS Camera besides "Just Dance 2014", I think the PS Camera would move units if Sony would just announce that you could group/party video chat via Skype or Google Hangouts while playing a game (especially during online multiplayer matches) or watching video apps like Netflix.

The PS Camera would become even more attractive when Live-TV starts coming to the PS4 & folks could group video chat via Skype/Google Hangouts while watching sports especially during the football season.

That was one of the many promises for the PS3 back in 2005. I would hope Sony can pull it off now.

Western exclusive is likely Agent or something from Rockstar.
And I hope nothing changed behind the scenes if famous just learned today that gc may not be that impressive. Maybe Verendus has outdated info? Man, I better not hype myself :(

Gonna have to disagree. Both Sony and MS were really good this year about showing actual gameplay. Even Final Fantasy XV and KH3, while their gameplay is still in the concept stage, were something better than typical cgi stuff.

Both consoles have pretty mediocre launch lineups, Xbox more so to me. In fact the only real next gen exclusive shown so far is Infamous and hopefully that'll come by february-march.

I don't think the spreading of releases is mutually exclusive to having a killer app, what I was trying to say is that it's better to trickle the releases instead of cramming everything together. If people see a killer app they really want they'll purchase the system, but everyone else who already owns the thing will need a decent stream of games as to avoid periods of gaming drought between purchases (and to convince people who haven't bought it yet that the system gets good support).

I think it is a wash. The only big exclusive Xbone has for launch is Forza. PS4 has KZ SF. Personally, I am not much into car games, so I prefer KZ. Ryse might be an interesting number, but the E3 showing was very lackluster, as have Cryteks last two games been.

So then if you don't know, you can't say Xbox One has the better launch lineup.

OY, i didnt' say xbone's launch was better. YOU ASKED why ps4's launch is perceived as a negative. I said its because sony's competitor has a GOOD LINEUP and thus comparisons will be made.

Something can't be called good or bad if there isn't some standard to be compared to.

So i made the deduction maybe some people think that Sony's line up is bad because it sucks compared to the xbone, THAT"S ALL.

I am still believing it'll be November. October is way too soon to believe.

I really want to be wrong though.

I feel the same way about it as I did the Oculus Rift's original release date.

I would love to hear more about Planetside 2. Unless Sony plans on doing a special PS4 F2P show, I expect the console version of Planetside 2 to be at Gamescon.

I actually like the PS4 launch. It reminds me of the 360 launch in the sense that there is a major exclusive for each genre(perfect dark-killzone, Kameo-Kanck, PGR- Club).Only difference is that we have some pretty sweet 3rd party support this time around( BF4, COD Ghost, AC).

Yeah when I call the PS4 launch mediocre that's actually a huge compliment compared to what Sony usually gets at launch. I'm getting Killzone, Knack, BF4 and Watch Dogs and if there's a buy 2 get 1 free somewhere then I'll use it to get AC4 and I guess either Madden or COD for free. There's a lot of decent or okay-ish looking stuff to play at launch, definitely enough to hold me until Infamous comes out.

If famousmortimer is right, Sony should reconsider its plans. Maybe they'll sell every single unit until march but what about those people which are going to buy One because it seems to have more games at the moment ? Most of gamers don't even know which studios work on which platform, all they need to know is that Uncharted 4 is coming to chose PS4 even if One will have its Halo

Translate, please? All I can make out is September 14, and that seems way too soon.

it is saying that I will receive the ps4 on day one. also I have to pay 50 euro upfront ( deadlines 14 sept ) the weird thing is that the payment is in the middle of september and not the end, this raises my suspicion that the console is launching in october :)
