Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

This would be relevant if beating the Xbox One in sales was the only relevant metric in terms of success. How very short-sighted of you.

PS4 is also competing against every other electronic gadget this Christmas, including current gen consoles, smartphones, iPads, smart TVs etc. Then there's whatever Amazon and Apple might bring to the party. Sony needs to capitalise on the current situation quickly and give people a reason to spend their money on a PS4 instead of all the other things they could be spending it on instead, never mind the Xbox One.
Yeah, but that doesn't really matter if they are sold out till March.

Eight days was cool, i saw the trailer few years ago and was blown away, I see no reason why that game cant be made on next gen. it looked like a day 1 buy for me and could be a system seller

Just cause Sony is ahead does not mean they should relax, MS can do anything before ps4 launch and take a big chunk of momentum from sony. Imo sony would be making a mistake resting (that will be them being arrogant) They need to show games/New ip(s) and maybe a big 3rd party exclusive or exclusive content (i wish)

That is so true, Jack Tretton has mentioned something like that as well

I don't think they're relaxing, they may just be holding back announcements until stuff is farther along in development so it can make a bigger impact when they need to make the announcements.

I'm really really pissed that Platinum is making an Xbone exclusive. So god damn pissed.

;_;

Why?!

It probably wouldn't even come out until mid-late 2014 just by virtue of it being a Japanese game. This applies to the full collected episodes of D4 and Crimson Dragon as well (although the latter might be pushed out earlier depending on it's scale, no dragon scale pun intended)

Would not be surprised if MS released a Kinect-less X1 by that time in which case you could just save up and buy it in Winter 2014/2015.

And as pointed out, it might be something you're totally uninterested in. Imagine if it was Windows Phone exclusive lol

I will never ever buy a Microsoft console. Not in a lifetime. I just hope it won't be something I'm interested in.

Sigh.

It feels as if Sony this announcement of a late October release is going to be the highlight of their conference, which would be underwhelming in my opinion.

Similar to how the highlight of Sony's E3 conference was their no DRM / used game policy, which I don't like(how it's the highlight).

I want some kick-ass looking exclusive(s) shown to be the highlight of Sony's conference, similar to how MS showed off Titanfall.

Because honestly, this late October release isn't a HUGE deal, perhaps only a 1 week headstart since it's likely the xbone will release in early November, likely November 5th with CoD Ghosts.

This post is probably going to be the exact opposite of how most feel, but oh well.

1 week headstart? For you perhaps, buddy, I'm Dutch. An October release would be a very huge deal here.

I hope so man...

I'd just rather have people saying "omg, i cant wait till i get my hands on _____(enter ps4 exclusive here)" rather than "omg, october 21 release date"

Most of the big games are so far away though. It's only natural people would be exciting for the hardware to come out in the first place.

well i don't know what they doing but people are saying they should/might hold off and i dont think they should. Holding off = relaxing. If 5 things are ready to be annouced, just announce 3.

if your in one of the 13 countries that get the xbone in the week or 2 timeframe. But for the rest of planet earth or what MS refers to as low tier, it's a pretty damn big difference.

and No DRM was way bigger announcement and far more important than fucking Titanfall

They're guns for hire. They've even admitted as much in a recent interview. They're free to anyone who wants to fund a game from them.

Coming? I want them hear now.

Sony hasn't shown nearly enough games up to this point.

They've had no reason to. The launch line-up is solid and pre-orders numbers reflect that.

We already know 30 exclusives are currently in development. Of those, 20 will launch within the first year. Once the new year starts we'll hear more about what's to come during the year.

Media Molecule and Housemarque I'd bet.
If Media Molecule do turn up, what sort of game do you think they'll show? With them stating that they're done with LBP for the moment and rumours going around that Sumo Digital is handling the third instalment, it could end up being anything at the moment.
Although it's pretty easy to bet that it'll be a creative game in some what way

Well, I guess we'll see more and more Japanese IPs die thanks to MS moneyhatting.

Tri-Ace is pretty much dead this gen, who will be next?

Wait, I can play Call of Duty, Knack, FIFA, Killzone, Driveclub, and Battlefield on these? Sign me up!

Of course they need to announce more games soon, are they going to launch a game one or two months after reveal? We should have know or hear about january-march games right about now, we only have infamous so far. Ideally I want there to be notable game release every months, not 1 game per quarter.

First launch you've been invested in I take it?

So far the games aren't that bad launch-wise, and we know that several devs are working on something or another despite no official announcements (Naughty Dog, Visceral, BioWare, DICE some big ones in the West to drop names). It usually isn't until the PAX or E3 near or following a launch when we here about devoted and larger titles.

Wait, I can play Call of Duty, Knack, FIFA, Killzone, Driveclub, and Battlefield on these? Sign me up!

It won't be an issue if folks are looking into getting a devoted gaming console, but there's still quite a market for tablets, laptops, and other mobile computing devices. You have to keep in mind that not everyone (or even a large percentage) of the market is just interested in gaming consoles and that's their only focus in the holidays.

Thief, Blacklight Retribution, NFS: Rivals, Wolfenstein, and The Division are around that window of a few months of the system launch...among others that may or may not be a big deal to people (Liege, Primal Carnage, and so on). How many games do you need?

As if people never had anything else to spend money on besides consoles. This holiday is no different than any other for the past decades. If it wasn't an iPhone it was an iPod or a walkman, if it wasn't a tablet it was a laptop or a PC, If not the Xbox than the Wii. If it wasn't smart TV's it was hdtv's or flat screens or whatever. People need to stop acting as if consoles are up against insurmountable never before seen odds.

Of the 30 in development (not just talking about the first year games now), I believe the next Sly will count as one of them, as well as an AAA Stealth/Action game. Also in the works is another racer, but that will likely be digital only (or I should say is digital only as of this moment). That one is probably not one of the 30 though.

Am I smelling PS4 Syphon Filter? I think I am.

Sony need to show a game ever that will ow us away, Killzone, Knack, Drive Club don't really make the PS4 a must have. inFamous Second Son looks great but it's prequels were it as big so it ain't getting the reception it should and with The Order we barely seen anything. Son need that game that's a must have announced. Before PS3 was even released we got trailers of MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII and etc that got us excited. Sony need to blow us away with a Naughty Dog game, a Santa Monica game or a cool new IP from another studio with actual gameplay that is mind blowing.

So our very own FamousMortimer, in his podcast (you should absolutely check out his blog and listen to his podcast regularly BTW), he says he thinks that Housemarque's SuperStardust successor will be announced AND that it will be part of PS+ instant game collection along with Driveclub when the PS4 is launched. So that's news.
