Indie Games [August] Now Voting - Post 937!

Discoverie - nice art style, enemies may seem cute and harmless but they're far from it, crossbow is cool, a very fun game overall. Good job, fellow GAFfer!

Probably Archery - "QWOP/Surgeon Simulator meet archery" sums it up perfectly. Add some human targets, apples on top of heads, some variety and this could be a hit

Escape Sequence - a memory-testing maze game, seems kind of shallow but still is worth a try

More impressions to come

For anyone looking at Legend of Dungeon, it is a fun game but it is really simple from a mechanics/gameplay perspective. Don't go into it expecting a ton of depth. I picked it up from their site a few months ago but I will dive back into the Steam version now to see if much has changed and post something more in-depth. I really need to come to grips with my rogue-like problems soon, I buy just about everyone that looks mildly interesting...

Beyond Perception - Now this game is top notch. IMO, could be the next Antichamber. Actually each challenge is like a mini-Antichamber, playing with your perception and having to learn the rules of the level to exit. The art galley set up is brilliant.

First Person Seppuku - great art style and the premise seems cool, but I cant figure out how the controls work

Reflections - very inventive idea, a puzzle/memory FPS where you have to study patrol routes only visible in reflections and then kill the invisible enemies

This is awesome! I will be browsing through these tomorrow.

Were you inspired by Paranautical Activity?

I discovered Paranautical Activity the day before 7DFPS started and backed it immediately!

But the idea for the game I'd been kicking around for a long time. I had been using Qubicle (voxel art tool) for a few previous game prototypes. This is the first time anything I've made with it has been public.

Thanks for playing :)

Oh, how is Qubicle? Were you using it with Unity? I've been interested but it looks like the tool is pretty early on.

I do need to figure out an art solution that I can do myself or with other non-art inclined people though :)

Sir, you are being hunted drops today 10am PST 6pm UK

Be interesting to see how Steam reacts, as it seems like there is a lot of angst aganst early acess games at present...

Also just finished Duck Tales, enjoyed it, but no way worth £12

Finally...

Despite me pulling my pledge for 7daystodie I still got sent the Alpha... and Ummmmm

they much be celebrating like crazy as they got 500K in KS and no way in hell what they just served up would need that much money...

it is extremely broken at present, and is not what the videos make it out to be

Pretty sure I was telling people in here to be very wary of that game. It never looked like something a random team would be able to pull off just like that with no time. At least not a game that would deserve an alpha purchase.

Sir, you are being hunted has an immensely higher chance of actually being a worthwhile alpha.

And why wouldnt you say Ducktales was worth 12$? It was worth 60$ when it originally launched, so its not like its just a "mobile" game or whatever.

lol, calmed down a little on the Duck Tales.....

The last level made me want to throw just about anything electrical out the window...

I bought the SIr, you are being hunted early access, so will update later

Also finished Gone Home last night, so I am doing well on games this month

I picked up the tool looking for something I could use to make models with a cool look and without wasting hours learning a modeling package to create substandard art.

For Discoverie I introduced the tool to the artist on that game, Ben. He was able to take his great pixel art concepts, extrude and animate then quickly. In the end I was only able to implement a handful of the creatures he had created! They're pretty easy to get into Unity, and I wrote a small tool to animate them.

Has Tower of Guns been mentioned?

Was watching some gameplay, looks really fun and hectic. Has a very cool steampunk style, tons of traps, crazy amounts of enemies and projectiles onscreen at once

Trailer | Greenlight | Site
Hour of gameplay

You can preorder for the quite reasonable price of $7.50

Tower of Guns is a fast paced, nostalgic shooter for the twitch gamer… with a few roguelike elements to keep it fresh with each playthrough. Think of it like FTL or Binding of Isaac mixed with Doom 2. The game is currently in “Post-Pre-Alpha”. The game is playable in segments, the majority of core features have been fleshed out, and ToG is well on it’s way toward completion.

My OP Indie Impressions - Part 7 Special Space Edition

Last Post: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=76727755&postcount=756

Viscera Cleanup Detail
Viscera is a game where you play as a space janitor who cleans up a blood stained Doom 3 looking space station presumably after some FPS hero space marine rides through. The joke of the game is said, acknowledged and enjoyed in about ten seconds and then it continues which leaves the Cleanup Details a slightly dull experience. Although I didn’t totally hate this game, there is a certain level of satisfaction that comes with cleaning and your character is deliberately a little clumsy. The clumsiness develops into you spilling buckets of blood over the floor, dropping blood soaked limbs and tipping bins which I honestly found rather amusing in a comic hijinks kinda way. Jobs do seem to take longer than predicted simply due to your own inability to soak your mop in the water without splashing it. I’m of slightly two minds with the one, the moments of silliness and chaos are rather amusing but they happen slightly too rarely to make up for the super repetitive nature of the normal game. If the finished game is just this but more levels then they are doing it wrong, but if they can make something that keeps offering surprises and weirdness and potential for mistakes then it might be something special. I am hopefully though because honestly I would have wrote a similar thing about Surgeon Simulator being a one joke game and I found the full game version of that to be a triumph.
3/5

StarMade
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but it’s like Minecraft but with……a gimmick. In this case the gimmick is that you are floating in space (the alpha tells you upfront that in time they will implement an air system, but currently you float without restraint,) and that by using voxel style cubes you can assemble ships to wander around the 3D universe shoot asteroids, ships and whatever else takes your pick. This game is fairly early on the development, it is basically just the framework for now, but in its current state it is hard to tell it apart from what could be a fairly radical Minecraft mod, it lacks a certain character and depth to really set it apart. The ship building is easy to use but the nature of voxels mean it is hard to make any interesting shapes (without making them huge) and the flying and some of the UI feel a little clumsy. All in all, a noble attempt at an alpha but one that is a little bare currently and lacks a bit of personality.
3/5

So that’s it. All 43 games either given impressions or skipped over because I am poor. I might try to make some form of extra post saying which are the best games out of this month’s OP (perhaps a little closer to the voting date) but for now all that is left to do is thanks Toma for creating the indie thread OPs, everyone who recommends games and everyone who reads and replies to my posts.

Motion sickness drugs bought, and we're ready to go!

Thanks. This is the first game I've released for a while outside of my day job(s) for a while and so far it's been getting a good reception. Not sure yet if we'll develop it further or not, I don't know it there's too much to be gained from doing so.

Either way, getting something "finished", released and having people enjoy it even if it is less than 7 days of work, is motivating and should see us working harder on our larger game and doing more small ones like this more often.

Gassey: Discoverie is one of my favourite entries this year, well done :).

I think it has a lot of potential :)

Also, I posted this same question on Reddit
Your Favorite Seven Day FPS games

And of the few responses so far, Probably Archer was recommended for "fun factor".

I keep replaying Life Goes On demo. I really like the game....

2 questions...

Why have a sword, a can not find a use for it

Also what does the monster on each level do?

+1
Game is a lot of fun

Maybe the full game will have a use for the sword? And I was thinking that reaching the monster was like an extra challenge kind of thing, probably will be fleshed out in the full game

Sir, You are Being Hunted's alpha is releasing today. One of the devs is a founder and writer for the PC gaming site Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

http://www.big-robot.com/2012/03/12/sir-you-are-being-hunted/

This should be right up your alley More_Badass...random level generation and permadeath.
Been looking at this for a while and caved on buying into the alpha a few minutes ago. I'll give some impressions after I get a few hours in. Anyone who backed it and has been playing it have any tips/impressions to share?

All of the videos I have seen really excite me. The game has a great art style and atmosphere.

Oh, I've been following the game for a while, but didn't have the $$ to preorder and only have $10 in my Steam wallet. But I'll definitely be getting it during the next big Sale

So Teslagrad:
- Art style and animations are absolutely gorgeous
- Controls are simple but finely tuned, easy to control
- So far the early puzzles have been easy which is to be expected but the foundations are there for some challenging puzzle platforming

I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

They look great :) I watched some video tutorials on the site and it looks really simple to use. I'm assuming the tool you made simply swaps the meshes out as it animates? I was reading through the Q forums and saw some people complaining about identical models from this tool not batching cleaning in Unity, but I'm not sure if that's been resolved or not.

Sorry that I'm asking so many questions :P It just seemed worth asking before dropping money on this thing!

FlipFlop - Gravity switching puzzle platformer where floors and walls have no meaning. You can transition from surface to walls as easily as walking forward. 6 levels, but all pretty fun.

2091: Jim's Odyssey - cool spacewalk simulator, some adventure game-esque puzzles and then you don one of those astronaut jetpacks. Can be disorienting and difficult to control, as it should be

Grapple Truck - nice cartoon art style, interesting idea, kind of bare bones, but catching big air in first person is fun

Rocket Jump Quest - short but fun, platforming via rocket jumping, collect orbs as fast as possible. I could see some having a lot of fun with this, trying to get the fastest time

Alignment - similar to QUBE, manipulate the orange blocks to reach the end, cubes extend to align with your position, not the most complex game but still worth a try

Hey there Indie Game players! APEXICON is coming along nicely, and I just wanted to show you guys another screenshot of the game with the tiles beneath the letters, and some Wordsmith art:

When will a demo be available? SOON (tm). I'm working towards one that will tie into the kickstarter for the game.

Well just finished playing Sir you are being hunted, and it is all positive, basically it has "Objectives" YAAAHHHHH

How many times do these type of games simply evolve around you just surviving.....

you have to find these little rock things across 5 islands and return them to this big rock, all whislt scaveging for food etc...

it looks ok, but I notice you can change how your island looks I went with "bare" but you can add more into it...

Takes a bot of getting used to the fact you can not emter any buildings, as in this type of game your first insinct is usually "shelter"

When do you suppose the next Greenlight batch'll be? The 22nd would be two weeks from the last batch (the 8th), but I kind of expect it'd take a little longer than that. Not much longer - a couple of business days, really - but longer all the same.

I'd guess this week. Valve has pushed a few through already, but I'll wait and let them announce it.

Anyone else playing the Teslagrad demo? I got frustrated with that boss fight, got past it, and now I have the teleporting boots, which are freaking awesome. This game is going to be amazing.

Even if for whatever reason the puzzles don't maintain the quality throughout the entire games, the animations and art are fantastic

What's there is really promising but I think I'm going to save my full playthrough until more features are implemented. The game will be vastly improved with more bot types and there are at least 5 incoming.

Tried out the Teslagrad demo and loved it as expected. The art direction, influences, and animations are all impressive. Really digging the audio and the whimsical way the story was presented at the end.

Bumped the specific thread for it too.

Where do you go once you get past the "Dodge This" section? (The area with the electricity going back and forth across the room). I can'f figure out what to do afterwards

And can you post the link for the thread?

I'm not sure which part you're talking about. I think there's a bit of Metroidvania to it, so maybe you wandered off the beaten path. I know I looped back toward the beginning at one point.

Teslagrad thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=594616
nvm, checked online. Seems that part I'm talking about was totally optional. No wonder it was much more difficult than the rest of the demo. Now I know where to go

And thanks for the link
