Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

Noooooo, I really wanted to see some gameplay footage of The Order. That was one of the main things I was expecting from the conference damnit - cult members and their pornstaches battling lycanthropes with snazzy weapons in steampunk London!

What a pisser.
Isn't it possible that they are referring to the showfloor and public only? People do nave The order appointments set with Sony behind closed doors, they're bound to show a bit more than the E3 trailer don't they?

I think it is just people want to see a peak into the future of the console. I have been impressed with what has been shown, but aside from Infamous, I have yet to see a game which really seems like a step beyond this gen. They need to give us a glimpse of the future..

The age of extensive tech demos is done, sadly. But us fans would always appreciate them.

It will be nice to hear some new Sony news. I feel like there has been a fair amount of MS news (ranging from good to disturbing depending on your bias), but Sony seems locked down. Seems like they invested in a good plumber for this launch because there are no leaks to be found. This should be a good (or at least interesting) week.

How do you know? You haven't played any of them yet.

Anyone who calls the PS4's lineup as lacking should be immediately ignored. I've gone out of my way with 2 people who were misinformed and a little fanboyish. They never came back to the discussion after that, needless to say.

Both systems have ehh launch line ups IMO. Don't care about Killzone, don't care about Dead Rising. But I think Sony is making the right business move, as much as I don't like it. But oh well. 3rd party games will carry both systems through holidays.

XB1 games not on ps4:

Forza
KI
Ryse
dead rising 3
loco cycle

PS4 games not on xb1:

Driveclub
Killzone
Knack
DC:UO
Warframe
tiny brains
the playroom

all other games are multiplatform, so it's the best launch line up ever i'd say.

This is a shit lineup. Vita one was much better.

Exactly. Shadow Fall looks 10 times better than the new Call of Duty. If GG nail the gameplay it could the only unique sci-fi shooter launching this fall.

I think that they'll show 2-3 new games at gamescom. And they'll probably do the same at TGS. Then the VGA's will see the unveiling of a game from one of their star US studios (either ND or SSM). They'll all be games that'll be released by the end of next year, but they'll be spread out through at least now and GDC.

Vita had probably the best first party release lineup I can remember for a platform launch.

The problem was there was little after that for months. Sony can't afford to do that with the ps4.

Everything is pointing towards that not happening. If anything, Sony is making sure that not only will there be an ample supply of 1st party content, but 1st party news throughout the 1st year of the PS4. This focus will keep the hype going. Have a little patience people. I believe Sony has learned from what went wrong with the Vita launch

Wait what? What exactly are you saying that the Vita has?

The best launch lineup ever.

  • Asphalt: Injection
  • BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend
  • Dungeon Hunter: Alliance
  • Dynasty Warriors Next
  • Escape Plan
  • Hotshot's Golf: World Invitational
  • FIFA Football
  • F1 2011
  • Hustle Kings
  • Little Deviants
  • Lumines Electronic Symphony
  • Michael Jackson: The Experience
  • ModNation Racers: Road Trip
  • Rayman Origins
  • Shinobido 2: Tales of the Ninja
  • Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss
  • Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition
  • Wipeout 2048
  • Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack
  • Army Corps of Hell
  • Ben 10: Galactic Racing
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus
  • Plants vs. Zombies
  • Super Stardust Delta
  • Touch My Katamari

There have been better single titles (Mario 64, Halo: Combat Evolved, etc.) but the Vita had the best/deepest launch to date.

Most of those are sub-standard games from console franchises. Definitely not the best lineup ever since it has nothing on the 360's.

Huh? Being able to play those F2P games...for free and exclusives/BIG multiplat games is a bad lineup? Do you expect MS and Sony to release Halo/Uncharted/Infamous/Gears of War/GOW/etc on launch especially when all of those major multiplats are being released? That makes no sense at all.

And the problem being, Sony have shown almost nothing to come after that.
So the PS4 appears to offer a middling launch lineup and nothing else.

Of course there are games in development, I just want a glimpse of them.

How is this a middling launch lineup?

Call of Duty, Battlefield 4, FIFA, Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs and Need for Speed pretty much make this launch, for both machines, worth it.

Of course Sony will have good first party titles on the way, you only need to look at their history. And why tease games that are months, or years, from completion? People will only bitch when they get delayed or don't come out when they want.

Sony will surely show something but I have this feeling they are more that happy with launching alongside games like CoD,BF4,Fifa and WatchCreedFlagDogs4 so they aren't rushing to show what's in dvelopment.

Why is everyone so upset about shitty launch lineups? Launches are usually shitty. You'll be lucky to get more than 2 above average games for the 1st 6 months.

No but I do expect them to attempt to satiate my thirst for new games by way of trailers, regardless of whether they're not set to release until the next year.
An okay launch lineup + lots of nice info on new games coming in the future is fine.

If The Order isn't even in, I really just want something to fill the gap.

I'll take trailers or teases, anything!

Stardust successor is at least guaranteed, right? That alone can make it for me

There will be games and OS/system stuff starting to pour in. You should not be lacking in things to be excited about for PS4.

Yeah, and look how well cramming all those games into the launch day did for the Vita!

To even compare the standing Sony has in the portable space vs the console space is rather short sighted. Look at Nintendo.

Most of those are sub-standard games from console franchises.

That's a pretty big blanket statement.

Definitely not the best lineup ever since it has nothing on the 360's.

This is where I will give it up. Someone did the Metacritic scores of the launches with a minimum 10 titles and 360 beat out Vita slightly (though I think it was launch window, not launch day). Personally though, I find the Vita's launch lineup to be superior. So many games I loved on that list. Rayman, Uncharted, Super Stardust, Tales from Space, and PvZ were all games I fell in love with so much I 100%'d/platinumed them all.

Er, because they're both Sony platforms?
Meaning, it's clear they're holding back, and frustrating.

Vita having to show a deep line launch (and as a Vita day one owner, I didn't think that line up was that amazing) was due to much different circumstances, and did JACK SHIT for the Vita's fortune.

The PS4's situation is completely different to the Vita situation, and will actually have significant third party support + third party support down the pipeline.

The Vita's lineup has nothing to do with the PS4's.

I am more frustrated that they haven't shown anything, not that they haven't anything to show. Look at what is going down on PS3. PS3 line up>>>>Xbone + PS4 this year. I am just think Sony should show more of their hand. From perspective I reckon they do have a stronger line up under wraps than MS. Compared to last gen actually, the number of big 3rd party exclusives MS has secured it less impressive. Gears/ME/Bioshock etc.

I have no idea what Sony is doing with their first party teams and how they're marketing their games. The Order needs to have some sort of gameplay shown this year. I also think that Stig's new game, at the very least, should be announced this year. They're being very coy which is not how they've operated in the past whatsoever.

When you chuck in all the cross-gen games, the indie titles and what PS+ is offering from the very beginning, I can honestly say I'm pretty chuffed with what the PS4 has to offer at launch. There's a lot there for me to pick from. It's not Dreamcast-calibre - that was definitely more quality over quantity compared to the PS4 - but it's good enough... easily.

Yeah, and look how well cramming all those games into the launch day did for the Vita!

I definitely agree with this. The Vita's lineup was amazing but it did nothing for it. What Sony should have done was stagger their releases. They seem to have learned that lesson though.

Are you for real. COD, Watchdogs, FIFA and Battlefield destroy that launch line up.

Bro you're one of those gamers that want you face stuffed with info, and that's fine. But like was said earlier in 2014 the Wii U to me at least looks very interesting, but that doesn't mean I'm going to buy the console now.

I think the launch for both PS4 and Xb1 are good. Yes the 3rd parties are contributing a lot to it, but i'll take it. Me personally I give the edge to PS4 seeing as I'm a fan of Killzone and I can DL Driveclub PS+ edition.

Like we got the glimpse of The Last Guardian. Tell me does it still hurt?

Vita had shit third party support after launch too, PS4 wouldn't have that problem.

It's easier to make games for Vita compared to PS4. With Vita, devs just reiterated on the PS3 or PS2 tech and made the games quickly. PS4 is a different beast. It doesn't make sense to launch so many games on the system on day 1

I'm not really going to argue on semantics but it's too early to even say the games you mentioned will exceed Vita's launch. FIFA was on Vita and it didn't have CoD or BF but it did have a solid range of games.

So for anyone saying Sony has less games or something to that extent is kidding themselves. Same for comparing it to Xbones launch when we don't even know what the launch titles for each respective system will be.

Well like I said earlier, I'm not demanding a better launch lineup. I'm just saying, I think the lineup is pretty weak, so I'd like to see what is coming further in the future to make me feel better about buying the hardware.
So it's frustrating that Sony are being coy about future offerings, because what I've seen of launch stuff isn't very exciting, and a Gamescom of just more of that isn't gonna impress me.
Basically, I don't think Sony shouldn't rest on their laurels, they can't afford to drop the momentum they have, especially when Microsoft continues to aggressively attempt to reverse their fortunes.
