Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

Well that's lucky - because we have Gamescom, TGS, VGAs and GDC early next year. I don't understand the problem.

at E3, I'm not really worried because I got the impression they're focusing on third party games and partnership for E3 with AssCreed, WatchDogs and Destiny, as well as indies shown during presscon.

my guess at that time is Gamescom is where they'll focus on first party games announcement, than during TGS or pre TGS is where they announce japanese centric games.

but now we got news that they're holding back for gamescom. they're running out of time to announce their 1st half of 2014 games lineup. VGA and GDC next year is prebably reserved for end of 2014 or even 2015 titles imo.

I'm pretty sure those games were NOT in active development when they were first mentioned by Sony and you should never do something like that.

Exactly - so why tempt fate and show stuff too early? They clearly have a roadmap planned out of what to announce and when to announce it this time around. They're learning from their mistakes.

If GDC and VGA is for 2015 titles then what are E3 and Gamescom for next year?

I highly doubt that the PS4 will have trouble selling will based on the pre-orders alone. It's not like the Wii U (no 3rd party support/slow exclusive start) or the Vita (has games but not a lot of 3rd party support right now and "AAA" exclusives and other problems). There's tons of games in development for the PS4 and we already know it's going to get multi-plats along with the Xbox one.

Agreed. Madden/FIFA/CoD/BF/AC will sell the PS4 and XB1, they don't need to announce a bunch of games that are 18-24 months away still. Lots of people are acting as if there will be a game shortage, where it's just filled by 3rd parties/multiplats instead of 1st party games. If you MUST have a console at launch, and like the XB1's lineup better, then hell, buy an XB1. Re-stating the same complaints over and over won't make anyone feel any better.

I don't understand all these people saying there is nothing to play at launch. When has there ever been a better launch lineup than this for a new gen?

I bought a PS2 at launch with only Tekken Tag Tournament, there wasent shit to play for months, except shoddy Dreamcast ports of games that actually looked better on the Dreamcast (DoA, Code Veronica etc.) Once that console got going, it was like a unstoppable train for years.

This launch is far superior to the PS2 and PS3 launch, sure taste is subjective and all, but i have a hard time comparing Kessen with Watch Dogs here.

All I have to say is, Sony has shown this year that they have a plan and they aren't simply resting on their laurels.

E3 showed us that, and while some were disappointed in their Software showing, people are going to remember E3 for their no DRM statement and their price, which did more to help the PS4 then any game would have.

I think Sony have a good idea at what they're going to do tomorrow @ Gamescom. It might not be crazy in new software that some would want, but simply announcing a new game, and showing off the release date will probably be enough to generate enough hype for the PS4.

ive been out of the loop for 3 days so sorry if this is major repost but what time is the ps4 conference/whatever tomorrow and is it live streamed?

some of the biggest game release usually have quite a long period between announcement and release date to build hype. TLoU, Uncharted, GoW, Killzone, Beyond 2 Souls, Metal Gears etc are announced around a year or more before it's released.

TTT, SSX, TimeSplitters. Nah PS2 launch was superior but PS3 launch was nothing to brag about, but neither is the PS4 launch.

There is a lack of Japanese games...

I knew there was something. I refuse to support a launch without Japanese games... and I don't care for Knack.
Sorry Cerny.

The current conversation in this thread is starting to remind me of the day before E3 when everyone was worried that Sony was going to screw things up.

Haha, yeah, I know. I really am not that worried. I know we're getting at least one new game, and any next-gen announcement is good in my book.

You and I have much different tastes in gaming(though I could have only had TTT and NBA Street for the first 3 years and been fine with my PS2).

Assassin's Creed IV
Battlefield 4
CoD: Ghosts
Killzone: Shadow Fall
FIFA 14
Madden 25
NBA 2K14
NBA Live 14
Watch_Dogs
Knack
DriveClub
DC Universe Online
Warframe
Just Dance 2014
Skylanders
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
Need for Speed Rivals

A lot(almost all non-exclusive) are cross-gen multiplats, and say what you will about the quality of what's been show for some of the games, but this list demolishes the PS2 launch lineup
IMO
, and most console launches.

If you're fishing for a reason to buy a PS4, and playing what all signs are pointing to as being the definitive versions of most of the games above, then by all means wait until more games come out. I'll be enjoying my PS4 and XB1 come Fall.

I agree with you, like i said its all subjective. I can easily see myself buying these:

Battlefield 4
CoD: Ghosts
Killzone: Shadow Fall
FIFA 14
NBA 2K14
Watch_Dogs

And Knack if its well reviewed or i get a chance to try it. I really cannot even name 3 games for the launch of PS2 that i wanted.

Chances of getting an announce of iNFAMOUS SS being a launch title tomorrow?

Even if Second Son is 'ready for launch', there's no way they'll make it a launch title.

With all the hype and excitement around Second Son, it's pretty clear Sony is putting a ton of weight behind Second Son to be the first ignition spark to be a system seller game. A Q1 launch would be perfect for such a thing, where Second Son's release would move systems a few months into the launch of the consoles.

Not to mention if Second Son is a launch title, it's basically pitting itself directly in competition with 2 major open-world games that was given a lot more marketing (WD, ACIV). And GTAV will have very long legs as well, going well into next year, which will dilute a lot of attention away.

As much as I'd love to have Second Son as a launch title, Q1 2014 is the perfect strategic move from a business standpoint. It allows Sony to tout another major AAA-exclusive only a few months from launch, it's positioned perfectly to re-excite sales of the console after the initial launch craze, and it escapes the crazy competition/comparison with 3 open-world sandbox games.

Only game that interests me there is Knack.
My eyes gloss over the plethora of sports/racing titles, and Ubisoft are too hit and miss for me to consider buying their stuff at or near RRP.
Don't play shooters *snore* so that leaves me with like 2 or three titles, one of which I've never heard of.

Maybe my interests are too specific. Looks like I'll be looking to PS+ to provide for me something to play at launch.

I'm really not expecting any megatons at all tomorrow. It doesn't feel like a pre-E3 type of atmosphere.

It'll just be good to have PS4 release details and hopefully some interesting announcements, but I don't think there will be any bombshells guys. Just my feeling.

I'd loved to see some gameplay from The Order but nevermind if Sony announces new games instead, trailers will come at time.

Also I'm pretty excited to know how will Sony reply to Fifa packed with every Xbox One

Sadly, in the grand scheme of gaming, that's a minority mentality. JRPG is my favorite genre BY FAR, but I also play the living shit out of local MP in Sports/Shooters. I'll be getting Watch Dogs, but after AC3, I'm going to wait to see how AC4 pans out. That said, being able to play FIFA/Madden with better graphics is a huge huge HUGE selling point to a lot of general consumers.

I can understand why someone in your position isn't very happy with what's been revealed so far, but majority rules.

So embarrassing.

Not to random soccer mom or random 12 year old that wants a console this Christmas.

You guys really should not worry about no games being in development, there is still a large amount of Sony studios and some second teams that are in the dark. Unless you think they are making vita games or something. I think they want to stop the agent, bioshock vita, last guardian screw ups. They don't need to announce everything right now anyway.
