Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

My $10 copy of Rayman Origins came today! Since I don't have PS+ it was actually cheaper to get that than get it on sale a couple weeks ago.

Between that, Persona 4, and Dragon's Crown, I'm probably set on my Vita until FFX comes out, whenever that is. Even if it's digital I'm getting it.

My expectations are near zero for Gamescom as well. Borderlands 2 would be cool but if it doesn't happen it's not a huge deal. Still waiting on release info for FFX and any kind of info on God of War ports. Hopefully they are good and not shoddy like Jak collection is.

edit: Top of the page! Here goes!

Buy Dragon's Crown! Even if you own it on PS3, buy it on Vita too! It's amazing! Also buy Divekick which comes out tomorrow!

I'm ok with them if they're actually achievable...

I'm basically asking if people can actually achieve these goals realistically or are they as difficult as they sound? They read as though you need to be an absolute speed running expert at the game?

And I will state it for the third time if it helps get it into your brains, I BOUGHT THE GAME ALREADY ON STEAM.

The game is about challenge. That's the point of the game. Running for high scores and doing the best you can in a challenging game. Thus the trophies are also challenging. They should be. They are very hard and you'll need to dedicate a lot of time to the game to get them, yes.

Spelunky is one of the few games that actually bothers to have fun, challenging and pretty unique achievements. If you don't like that then by all means, continue to play it on PC and don't buy it on Vita. I've already bought it on steam and I'm going to buy it on Vita because I find the game extremely fun, trophies or no.

Yeah... achievement difficulty shouldn't sway me -- I get trophies/achievements and even hunting -- I have like 75 platinums or more.

However, saying "I won't buy DMC4" or "DMC HD Collection" because there are some near impossible achievements/trophies is ridiculous to me.

To each their own though.

I have a lot of trophies too. Just got the platinums for Metal Gear Rising and Hotline Miami recently. I like hunting trophies for games I like too.

Doesn't mean I'm not going to play a game, or version of a game, I'm interested in because the trophies are hard. That's just ridiculous to me as well.

Read my edit above, I use trophies on my PS3/Vita account as a way to tackle my backlog without jumping around from game to game.
On Steam that ship sailed long long ago, I've got hundreds of games that I've barely played so I just use it as a dumping ground for titles whenever I feel like a muck around.

Anyway it would be nice if somebody actually answered my question as to whether the Spelunky trophies are achievable or not, or do you need to be some speedrunning expert?

I still don't get it. But that's okay -- as long as it works for you.

Judge for yourself:

This still doesn't answer the question though? Are they achievable with practice, or are they 'impossible'?

EDIT - Thanks for the video, I will check it out.

Watching that video, it seems if you like the game and play it enough, you're likely to be able to do it with a little luck.

What does that mean?

When you die somewhere in the random levels of Rogue Legacy, your next of kin steps up, has some of your money/experience/whatever, and goes in next.
So in Spelunky, it'd be starting over with your gloves or your shotgun or your money or whatever.
It wouldn't work as well in Spelunky though.

Bought Atelier Totori in the sale, I wasn't sure about it at first but it's totally won me over. I need to get through it as Meruru Vita is coming soon.

Has anyone who bought totori actually disliked it? From the footage/reviews that I've seen my gut keeps telling me not to buy it, but then every testimonial I hear from people who were on the edge ends up with them liking it/being won over. Only on sale for 1 more day, not sure if I should save the cash.

They are 2 totally different types of game though. With that said there is a way to unlock shortcuts in Spelunky so you can skip areas. But if you could save stuff then the game would need to be redesigned around that. Having extra cash or even items at the start of the first area could really trivialize the game.

I'd never played an Atelier game before but I'm a big jrpg fan. It's incredibly cute and a little strange in places, I can see how some people didn't like it but once I got past that it clicked for me.

As a newbie I'm fascinated by the alchemy system and the main character writing is much better than I thought it would be. I can't speak for the later parts of the game but I'd say you really need to be okay with the art style. I'm only about 4ish hours in at the moment, no idea how grindy it is.

You can download the Killzone public beta now. No idea if we can actually play it yet, though.

We shall see.

This. We should all set our expectation to zero for the Vita at Gamescom. Sony probably won't even acknowledge the Vita until PS4 is launched.

I'm awaiting KZ Merc. Can't wait to play the beta today!

Somehow I feel zero expectations will still get us disappointed.

On another note, I can't decide between Atelier Totori or Soul Sacrifice. Decisions decisions...

I buy it and play it for a while but still not won over me yet. I'm quite picky about character design so you might just want to ignore me. Well, still wait for the mood to try it again.

ATELIER TOTORI RIGHT NOW GOD DAMNIT.

Both are quite good actually though they represent two completely divergent genres lol

...and I got both. Don't really know why, it'll be a while before I'll get to it with this backlog of mine. Why am I this weak to sales ;_;

I have PS+, but still haven't received an email with a code. Won't I just be able to download it from the store when it updates tomorrow night?

Same here, curious why some have got the email but not others.

ugh why is vita pausing downloads now
I want to know this too! My Vita will randomly pause downloads after the screen has shut off for a few minutes. Doesn't matter if I press the power button or if it just sits idle for a minute - it will end up paused after a few minutes.

While the injokes are a BIG deal about it, I don't think you have to get any of them, to be able to enjoy the game. I didn't know there was a guy like Dhalsim in "Flying Guillotine", That Bison shared a lot of look inspiration from Doomed Megalopolis, or that Guile was a hairstyle throwback to Polnareff in JoJo's... but that didn't keep me from liking SFII, y'know?
Well done sir, you know your stuff. Applaud.gif

These Killzone matches take way too long and I have no idea how the other team won when we killed more of the other team.

It's called Warzone, and it's a match with continually changing objectives. Whoever gets the most points wins. You may not like the long Warzone matches. They also have Mercenary Warfare (free-for-all) and Guerilla Warfare (team deathmatch), but those are not in the beta.

It's another problem that was introduced with firmware months ago that has since been ignored by Sony. Some people can only resume downloads if they let it sit, some can only resume if they hit the button, some can't resume at all, some have no problem.

Welcome to the Vita, please take your complimentary "Preparing to download" pamphlet.

They're both difficult 2D platformers, but I agree. It's why I said it didn't really fit Spelunky, no matter how much LuchaShaq would like it to. ;)

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLAY THE GAME

You're out of luck. After 100+ hours in P4G, there's no way I'm touching a JRPG any time soon. I bought it... be happy about that!

They got points for doing the objectives. Duh. :P
(Seriously, if it's a phase that isn't "kill them all" you don't get points for kills. You get points for collecting valor or securing VAN-guards or melee/interrogation kills, etc.)
