Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One

Do you guys think they'll have some sort of promotional character? I mean like Soul Calibur has in the past? Maybe a Battletoad?

I have been thinking about new characters for this game for a while now and it's very difficult due to the diverse/very random roster that killer instinct has.

The only one that I thought of would be a very lanky, rugged, devious looking 1800s coalminer that drags a pickax behind him and is very mixup oriented.

Wish I could think of more. : /

I don't think that a Drunken Master character would fit this game at all. Fair enough if the game was made all or of mostly human characters who all displayed different types of fighting styles and martial arts. Like Dead or Alive or Virtua Fighter. Drunken Master style is based on an actual style of Kung-Fu.

But Killer Instinct has aliens fighting humans fighting beasts fighting bizarre creations. So the fight style used by any human character is gonna be something of pure fantasy. Except TJ Combo's traditional boxing.

Sooo... make the style fit the universe. "This alien lifeform can survive in the earths atmosphere, but too much oxygen is intoxicating to him. His sense are heightened, but his movements become slurred..."

Even fantasy styles are generally based on movements and ideals from real martial arts. The idea could still fit, even if it'd have to be KI'd-Up some.

And one more "real" fighting style to go alongside TJ's would be nice to see, in an expanded cast, actually.

Is this going to be a launch title? Really hope might eightarc fusion I bought last year will work with the game. Not dropping another 200 on a fight stick for another decade :D

Current gen controllers are confirmed to NOT be compatible with new hardware :( I'm not happy about it either.

As I've said before, I'm okay with it as long as it's a character from another Rare IP. Battletoads and Elemental Warriors from Kameo being the most suitable imo.

The coolest thing for a DLC Promo character would be to make it free to the community.

It'd bring up awareness for the game, raise value on the base package, and the Devs get a nice chunk of money from those paying for the promotion.

I don't really expect to see one yet, but if the game goes on as long as Double Helix seems to hope, seeing promo Characters / Costumes down the line would be cool.

It's pretty shameless, really. There's no reason they can't make a wired controller work when it's 1:1 button mapping. If they did I'd probably get a One for this game, otherwise, forget it.

I wonder if someone will make an aftermarket dongle for the headset and for the wired connection for the XBox 360 stuff. I think these are what keeps the old peripherals from working.

Please no promotional characters.

It seems like Double Helix is putting a lot of heart into making the best fighter they can and really re-establishing Killer Instinct in modern gaming. I want them to succeed on their own merits and the merits of the franchise itself (which is very rich and shouldn't have been allowed to stay dormant for so long. Especially since, as DH pointed out, it didn't make much sense for MS to not have a dedicated 2D western fighter in this age where 2D fighters are having a renaissance).

They shouldn't have to rely on the cheap gimmick of "Play as Vadar!" The franchise is strong enough to stand on its own, and all that crossover shit does is cheapen the brand.

Keep it out.

So since every character has a unique Instinct mode would it be safe to think Orchid's will be a speed boost? Seems like the perfect character to have that.

@DrDogg I think they will reveal a second female character first before Fulgore.

How would a speed burst really help her in a match?

Also, a second female character would have to be Kim Wu or Maya. I can't see either of them being announced before Fulgore. I guess maybe a brand new female character?

So I might be a little more hung up on logos than most people, but the new "K" and "I" does not look good. Compare them to the classic letters, the new ones are stretched, slimmed and look more feminine. The new K looks like a woman putting her foot forward. The classic one looked like razor sharp blades. The I is like a tip toeing ballerina.

I prefer the classic logo, but that's the least of my cares when it comes to this game. lol

Spinal was quirky though; it wouldn't be changing the character at all.

OG KI was sort of "broken" in the sense that most people ignored 90% of a characters moveset and just focused on one spammable special to extend combos.

Spinal had all these nuanced mechanics that rarely got used. All they have to do is bring them back.

I don't know. Spinal was my main in KI1 and I used a ton of his stuff in high-level play... although never for extending combos. You didn't really see extended combos in high-level play.

The only guest character I want to see is Battletoad. That's it.

Maybe all of them eventually...

because it's not using the same wireless spec, not even in same frequency range

oh i thought you said wireless

excuse me - oh my god look at that lion behind you *jumps out window*

That may be my bad. I initially typed wireless by accident :P

But yeah, not letting wired controllers work seems pretty rotten. Make the One sticks nice enough that we'll want to buy one by choice, but don't lock out controllers that MS could easily enable just to force people to buy new peripherals. Those aren't cheap.

now that Thunder is there all I need is Tusk and Riptor. Would be nice if Riptor's instinct mode had her molting her skin to reveal a different form.

One good thing about this being essentially an XBL title is that this sets the bar high for other developers from the very beginning.

Um a speed boost allows her to double the attacks. So a regular 10 hit combo turns into 20. Also i don't think they want to launch the game with just 1 female.

Any word if we can use our xbox 360 tournament edition SF4 fight sticks on xbone?

Except for the old "it's all USB now!" thing, I never really expected to be able to use this Gen's sticks on next gen (without mods, especially).

Not like I was able to use NES stuff on SNES, SNES on Gamecube, or Original Xbox on360. Cross-Gen compatibility has rarely ever happened, especially officially.

I DO wish, however, that Madcatz / Hori / etc would make new Sticks and Controllers with included backward compatibility. This Gen was so long, and the fighters will be played for years to come. Bundling such an option with a new, improved stick would also lessen the blow of needing to buy a new one.

I started out on 360 by using it's Analog and Dpad to play KoF Neowave and SFII online... I'll have no problem adjusting to Dpad again while waiting to get a new XB1 Stick (heck, I still use a pad to play fighters on PS3, since I have no stick for it yet). But it'd be nice if they let me use that new stick for XB1, 360, PC (and in a dream world, PS3 and PS4 as well...)

There is no technical reason why the sticks shouldn't work though. If you've seen the KI sticks they have been using for the game they look no different from the current 360 sticks. It is really a bunch of bullshit.

I'm not following. How would a speed boost double her attacks? Combos aren't limited by how fast you can attack, they're limited by the KV meter. So unless her Instinct mode causes less KV, I don't see how additional speed would extend her combos.

Also, in the event that you do get a combo extension, that just means the opponent gets more chances to use a Combo Breaker. Not exactly an ideal comeback mechanic. Unless I'm just not understanding you.

they REALLY need to tweak the levels of the BGM, its so good - but i only now realized it because yo cant hear it in the actual gameplay

Isn't it pretty much a given that we'll have (at least) BGM and Sound Effect sliders in the options menu?

Announcer volume as well, I imagine.

As a Halo fan, I never take that for granted. I reckon the default music volume should be a little bit higher in any case!

So am I right to assume this will have a story mode?

In the recent reveal for Thunder, they talk about his motives and say that you fight other fighters through the course of the game to "find answers", for himself and his brother, so there's got to be right?

why would it be a given? the only games that seem to fairly regularly offer that sort of thing are racers. (though i rarely play modern fighting games so i may be wrong)

Shun-Di style.

Each drink increases his damage output by 8%

Certain moves unlocked after X number of drinks

Done

Each drink also causes input lag to increase by 5%.

Also, Spinal should be animated like a Harryhausen stop-motion skeleton.

Just finished part 1. So good.

I'm very slightly disappointed that the "Blink and you'll miss it" bit that got us all riled up a while ago was just Jago's intro on Thunder's stage. Ah well, Gamescom in mere hours.

If all we get is a yellow high-heel hitting a tree stump...
we riot.

Almost every game I've played this gen had BGM/SE sliders, including every Capcom fighter. Not 100% sure about Injustice/MK but I'd be willing to bet that they're in there as well.

The only reason I know this is because I frequently drop BGM/SE and leave the Voice slider cranked so I can play during the night at low volume without missing dialogue.

I'd be bloody shocked if we can't adjust BGM/SE/Voice independently in KI.

instinct mode she breaks the laws established in the game so during that time she can go off on people but at the risk of being combobreaked. However it is much harder in this mode since she is so fast.

Actually I'm pretty sure there is literally a split second shot of Thunder himself right before it switches to Jago sitting there. But yeah, either way just Thunder stuff.

If you break the laws established in the game, then you're temporarily breaking the game itself. I don't see how that would be beneficial to anyone.

Rather than a speed boost, what if her Instinxt Mode allowed her to a specific moveset that is otherwise unavailable to her? Like transforming into the tiger (?) for instance?

Actually, we've already got confirmation that they'll be different on the inside and outside, even if they end up using the same arcade-quality parts.

But it's the same reasons controllers from past gens haven't been usable with the next forever; The new tech under the hood (changes in button sensitivity, new added buttons and features, new plugs, etc), and the fact that companies use new gens to sell us new accessories. New memory, new controllers for each player on the console, new headsets, new TVs with new fancy features like 3D or higher HD or framerate standards... It's all part of crossing over to a new gen. Companies get to make new money on markets that shrunk during the last gen, as "everyone already has one!" became the norm...

I'm just thankful this particular gen lasted so long, and will probably continue to last for a few more years soon; I've easily got much more out of my "special controller" investments this gen, than I ever got out of them in the Saturn of PS1 days. Lets not even talk about The SNES or Genesis ones. And SO much easier to get than the old import-only days!

If one really finds the need to upgrade so annoying, they'll probably be unofficial methods to get your old sticks working with the new boxes, in a few months of release.

Save for the nice exceptions with the Gamecube -> Wii, and Wii -> Wii U, I've never been able to pull my nicest peripherals wilh me to another gen easily. Would have loved to have been able to get my Saturn Virtua On Twins sticks to work on my XBLA version of Virtua On...
