I too keep watching this thread needlessly, although I'm working graveyard shift so there's that excuse I guess...
I just want to say though I never would've expected the lead-up to this generation to be so one-sided.
I've been an Xbox gamer since the first one. I sold my PS2 to get an Xbox and never looked back. I've owned a grand total of EIGHT Xbox 360s, three of which I still own. I've logged around 25-30 hours a week on my 360 for the past 8 years... that's between 8,000-10,000 hours. 6,000+ hours of that, give or take, is on my current gamertag. I thought I would want to carry my gamertag persona with me as long as Xbox Live was up and running, hopefully indefinitely. So I created this gamertag (LifeExpectancy) back in 2008 in an attempt to have the "perfect" tag, completing the achievement list of every single game I played, which has reached a current tally of 275 games on this tag.
Please don't dismiss the above statements as pointless self promotion. I'm not saying all of this because I'm a die-hard MS fanboy or because I'm trying to be the next Stallion83. That isn't possible first off, and secondly my statements are meant to cast a light on what I'm about to say next...
I find myself all but certain of cancelling my XB1 preorder (or selling it on CL) and just gaming on the PS4. Even if all of MS's policy reversals stand and they don't do any re-reversals mid generation, it's just left such a sour taste in my mouth. I don't think they'll ever truly recover from the image destruction and consumer distrust they've done to themselves since May.
At the very least even if I keep my XB1 I think I'll wind up cancelling my XBL gold and just reverting to a silver account to play single-player only games going forward, making a PS4 my primary console and my only one for multiplayer gaming. They can take my gamerscore and shove it up their ass as far as I'm concerned, because all of this going down just makes me realize how much they've taken my focus away from gaming for enjoyment and turned it into a chore sometimes during this generation.
For every piece of DLC I purchased merely for (gamerscore completion)'s sake, for every year I paid for XBL with nothing to show for it but the occasional multiplayer match that I did more for achievements than for fun, for both of my RROD'd consoles, I both despise and thank MS. I despise them for making it apparent they never really did learn from their mistakes at the beginning of the 360's generation, and I thank them for making me realize and remember that gaming should first and foremost be about the joy of gaming, for making me realize that I need to move on and expand back into other platforms again.
