Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

How does having vibrant colors mean it looks less realistic? So many filters used in this gen has really messed with the perception of vibrant colors.

It's not just vibrant colors. There's less contrast too, alongside some textures being deliberately more uniform or simpler - the lack of contrast also makes it so even characters who are more detailed don't really look like it when you look at them from a distance.

I think it's just a flawed direction to take the art style that doesn't do the game any favors. After some comments in the last page though, I'm now wondering if this style wasn't chosen due to the 3ds version? Simpler and more primarily colored textures seem like they'd fit better with the black outlines of the 3ds version than more detailed designs. It makes sense, but I don't really like the idea that they might be taking certain creative decisions with the console version of Smash Bros just to make it line up with the 3ds game, even if it's not beneficial to the console version itself...

I realized that Pokemon roster discussion here isn't as "warfare"-like compared to smashboards or gamefaqs.

I guarantee you, Other M fans exist. :P

Only thing I don't like about the new Samus is how her mighty arm cannon has now been reduced to a peashooter.

Thing even looks like it could shoot peas.
Regardless of how you feel about Other M, agile Samus is badass. She was OP in Other M which is one of the complaints.

I wasn't a big fan of the realistic denim look in Brawl, I like the finer grain texture they went with in this game. It's a nice middle ground between very realistic and toonish style. Much more vibrant.

Most Nintendo characters just aren't that detailed. Brawl went overboard in that regard.
A lot of the art direction had to do with allowing Solid Snake to fit inside the universe without any glaring contrast. There was an element of realism Sakurai was trying to emulate that does not seem to be shared with the next game. Personally, I am enjoying the more vibrant pallete.

I remember unlocking marth and roy in melee and thinking how offguard i was at how "realistic" they were compared to the rest of the cast, dont know why i dont think this way about samus

People are still arguing about that? I don't know how they have the energy for it. heh

Yea I'd like to give that game another go to see if I've improved over the years. Maybe not tonight but we'll see it eventually imo.

I haven't played a Pokémon game since Blue, and honestly think we've gotten about as many interesting Gen 1 player characters as we'd ever need (including Mewtwo), so I'm not the one to get into that kind of discussion.

Dunsparce will be in Smash and if you even slightly disagree with me I will call you every name under the sun and spend numerous days spewing venomous shit on a message board and smugly look at everything I've said and get off on it because gamer "culture".

Pokemon debates are so inane. Now if we could somehow get back on the Samus heels discussion...

I doubt they would reveal a brand new through the screenshots. I'd expect at least Gameplay footage of new characters for when they're revealed, hopefully CG trailers ala Mega Man and Wii Fit Trainers since those were great.

Yeah I'm honestly surprised we've gotten tamer. It seems however the fuel here is Ridley's sizes and (I think) K. Rool?

Ridley is a loli

i would say atleast 6, 6-10, the closer we get to release, the more hype and discussion we will have because of things getting revealed will probably get juicier and jucier

I know this might seem a little off-topic, but when I saw this part in the trailer, I thought the whole game would've looked like it:

In my opinion, the way it looks now is nice, but certainly doesn't look like it's taking huge advantage of the hardware the way Sakurai's past games, or even the 3DS version are. I had even more confidence in that considering Namco's part in development, but of course, I'm not gonna be focusing on the shading of Mario's overalls during the actual game. :P

You are nuts then lol.

No way the game was gonna look like that.

We can dream though.

not only has nobody posted the pic yet, but this dropped off into the bottom of the 2nd page, smash-gaf is off its game tonight

Sakurai won't let me go to Dreamland.

Out of the blue, here's a new stage--the Pyrosphere from Metroid: Other M! An enemy from Samus's past may appear at any second…
