Sony: "over a million" PS4 preorders to date

I wonder if they'll be able to fulfill those preorders.

If the ratio from our insiders are true (4:1 in NA, 4:1 in UK, 8:1 in Continental EU), then the mathematical maximum we could get for XB1 would be 250K preorders at this point.

Yeah, do we have comparisons with other consoles in terms of preorders?
Anyone?

That's honestly pretty low, especially considering I'm accounting for two of them (one in canada and one in europe since I have no idea where i'll be living in a couple of months).

This is impressive but to be honest I was thinking it'd be closer to 2 million by now the way the Internet (we) have been fawning over it.

Now I'd like to know where Microsoft is at for preorders.

How does that compare to previous gens?

It's the first time Sony's ever published preorder numbers for a console pre-launch, so I think that speaks volumes.

Their biggest hardware launch to date was PS2, which shifted around 1m units over the first weekend IIRC (?)

Plus there's still 3+ months to launch...

I think ps2's combined sales for the first 2 weeks of each launch (jap/na/eu had diff releases) were in the vicinity of 1.5 million sold units. PS3 had less than a million but they had unit shortages. Looks like ps4 could reach the 2-3 million mark by Decembers end.

1 million doesn't sound like much to me but what is interesting is how they are able to launch in 32 countries compared to XB1 in 13.

Out of curiosity...
Has this beat the Wii U already in terms of pre-orders?
I thought it would beat Wii U in terms of pre orders, just wondering if we know it already has or not...

I'm hoping this will teach Nintendo a lesson though.
I dont think the Wii U has anywhere near this hype in the months leading to launch.
I think they're getting out of touch with gamers.

1 million consoles sold at launch is huge. Hopefully Sony reopens preorders soon. Right now that number won't go up since preorders are closed.

Yeah, that doesn't sound impressive at all.

It is pretty impressive.... most games don't even get 1 million preorders and those are only $60. Most people (even me) expected a very sluggish transition to the PS4 and Xbox One. Just to put it in perspective 1 million preorders is 399 million dollars. (roughly, Europe pays more etc etc)

I seriously didn't expect the preorders to be this high!

Damn, Sony is talking 6 figures number day one for PS4.

That article is about game pre-orders really. And in the article it says only 500,000 WiiUs have been pre-ordered.

Reading is fun!

GAF not impressed. Lol

1 Mil preorders is insane. Especially since most retailers sold out their launch supply back in June. Shit is going to be in huge demand. I think they have huge potential to break records.

I'm not pre-ordering, as my local store doesn't know when I can pick it up (if I'd pre-ordered last week, I was guaranteed one before December 31... Now it's "unknown").

I really wonder how much PS4s they can manufacture by November...

It also says that 500,000 consoles were preordered at Gamestop.
Reading is fun indeed!

The Wii U had a very strong launch. It's what happened shortly afterwards that's the problem. Be wary.

Clearly in all of our interests for Sony to keep the momentum of an exceptional start going though!
