Sony Gamescom Press Conference Thread: Let Us Dream

I can't believe some are saying this after all those games shown coming to PS3/4/Vita. I knew it would come to those discrediting the show because of the indies. I am anticipating more indies on Xbone/PS4/PC than retail games. Feels good to be a gamer right now.

I am not judging the games i am judging the presentation. There are some other nice games that looks promising like Rime for example but i am not interested in that until i see some actual gameplay and stuff.

Thought it was a decent show. Nothing spectacular but then again I wasn't expecting it to be.

Maybe it was a bit over the top but my general point was not sarcasm. I am not buying a PS4 for indie games. In fact, I almost could care less about indie games. I'm buying a console for the AAA experience and right now I feel Microsoft is the company that seems to be focused on providing those titles. Sony needs to start keeping indie developers are arms length because they are ruining their conferences. I want AAA games Sony, GIVE THEM TO ME.

That's great. I think many of us would be happy to see you move over to any other platform. We need less types of people who get so offended at the sight of indies and calls them "no-name hipsters" and goes into a rage fit at the sight of non budget-bloated smaller titles. You must of not have been a very big PS1/N64 gamer.

HINT: Pick whatever console you think you will have the most fun with, or all of them, or none of them. Nobody really cares, you shouldn't either.

I'm as frustrated as you are. The fact that they didn't even announce 1 new PS4 game was unbelievable. That's all I wanted really.

But instead I sat there for 40 minutes watching a bunch of indie shit that I can just buy on PC if I wanted to. I don't even know why I bother with conferences anymore they just seem to get worse with each one.

@yosp tweeting directly from the PS4 with a screen shot of Killzone was pretty cool. I didn't really get it until his tweet hit my timeline.

I saw the tweet first so I was like "how can Yoshida be tweeting while he's on stage ?!"

That was really funny

LAWWWWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

Stop trolling. Or at least go back and watch the 2 companies E3 conferences and decide which one is providing the better lineup of AAA games. Just because Sony assumed that

1) consumers wanted to see something new and

2) you would actually remember the conference from 2 months ago that covered all their AAA games

doesn't mean that they've forsaken big titles. They just don't have any new ones to show, which makes sense. Why would they forgo E3 and save AAA games for Gamescom?

Jesus, you're like the anonymous commentators-incarnate.

da fuck.

It was a good conference. Enough content for a conference, lots of announcements.

What announcements? The only thing new I heard was PS4 release date, a bunch of indies no one cares about, Vita price drop and Vita can remote play 99% of PS4 games, , and that was it.

The rest was all things we had heard or saw before. Gran Turismo, Infamous, Killzone, Watch Dog, AC: Black Flag. And they didnt even bother showing us any new demo's for these games.

I really liked the games, but it's a little concerning at how many titles sony themselves seems to have ready for Ps4 launch... Specially considering they were supposed to be ahead in this. Ms is seemingly coming way more aggressive regarding content (which I guess is the price sony has to pay for keeping longer support for Ps3 and having the Ps vita too)

I mean, I'm sure exciting games will come, but as of now, most of the Ps4 games that interested me are marked with a "Exclusive console debut", which means PC too and at a later time even on other consoles...

I felt the conference was... underwhelming. It was a solid conference with lots of indie games announced but the whole thing just felt hohum to me. Oh well, still hyped for PS4 and might grab a Vita now (though the memory card prices are still atrocious...).

Was a little disappointed. I mean most indie games were "console exclusive.......debut" which seems like pr speak for timed exclusive and with a great pc I am sure that I will get these games on steam for far cheaper . Infamous looked looked good and thats it.Also the rumours of the october launch made the november launch seemm like a negative .

And you don't consider that to be a problem? They could have even expanded on games they shown previously, like The Order or Deep Down.

Really liked their press conference. Thought it was a little better than their E3 one because it was paced better (fuck the camera crew though). So many indie games that I'm having trouble remembering which is which.

Highlights for me:

- Murasaki Baby. Love the twisted look of it. If this is a $15 PSN game, I'm totally in on it.
- Vita price drop
- Twitch streaming
- Everyone's Gone To The Rapture. If this game is a lot longer than Dear Esther, I'll be there day 1.
- Rime. Love the look of it and puzzle-platformers (which it looks like but I may be wrong) is my favorite genre.
- Shadow of the Beast. Really intrigued by it.
- Infamous: Second Son trailer. Was the game I'm looking forward to the most and still is.
- Assassin's Creed 3 free for Playstation Plus. I gave up on the series after 2, but I'm up for trying to get into it again.
- Vita streaming. I travel a decent amount and being able to stream my PS4 library whenever I have Wi-Fi is great, although I'm still hesitant on how well it will work.

Then you probalby missed

Rime, Everybody goes to Rapture, Shadow of the Beast.
Those are just some new PS4 games that they showed. And those are NOT indy titles.

You were probably a sleep.

And btw new games =/= SSM or ND game.

god damn, this conference had some of the worst camera work i've ever seen. why in the FUCK would you zoom out as often as they did? we don't give a shit about the audience, we care about what's on the screen, and when they were showing the OS off it was either too zoomed out or placed at some dumbass arty camera angle that cut off a decent chunk of the left side of the screen. the jokers who filmed this should never be allowed to work in the field again.

All those faux-excitement cheers were more obnoxious than in past conferences.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this.

A very underwhelming conference for me. I'm glad that they drummed up the Indie support, but the Vita titles they had to show were incredibly underwhelming and the PS4 still doesn't look like it has much to show for other than all of the launch titles. That small jab on Microsoft just kind of made me realize just how much of an easy ride they have right now. It feels like they don't really need to show much new of anything from the bigger publishers who will be sustaining the console despite them saying they're all working on things, they just need to fit the basic quotas of not screwing up.

PS4 still looks like the same good console since E3, but I was hoping that Gamescom would push me over the edge and convince me to get one. It's just making me more confident about my choice of waiting at least another year.

Congratulations on the biggest clutching at straws (wrong) assumption in the thread. I am sure you will be beaten by someone else though.

On Everybody goes to Rapture and Shadow of the Beat, we can't say anything about those games since they showed no gameplay whatsoever. That should never be allowed in a conference IMO. Final Fantasy 15 is the proper way to announce a game. Notice how they actually showed gameplay on their reveal.

Exactly most of the Indie games will be on the PC, I wanted to see some AAA exclusive debuts like what Naughty Dog has in store for us.

Lol only 3 pages? So gaf was down pretty much the whole time!

Show was ok, lots of medium/small announcements but nothing mind blowing and the release date was a little disappointing, especially for europe.

I am really annoyed at them for pointing out that there are unannounced titles in development from Santa Monica, Media Molecule and Naughty Dog and then not announcing any of them. Naughty Dog project is probably a lock for the VGAs since thats where they've announced their last 3 games.

Oh, and that Rime game looked absolutely stunning, very excited for that. He made it sound like it was pretty early footage, hopefully it hits next year.

seeing as we knew that they pushed back on announcing their top AAA games... the showing was great for me with a lot of diversity... never knew Twitch was coming to PS4
Rime looks sweet... and Killzone SF MP and Infamous SS trailers where rad

The only problem was the pacing of the conference (felt like a jumbo mess) and the infamous star of the show... the one and only Mr. Troll Camera man

Never forget.

Wasn't FFXV actually mostly CGI with very very little actual gameplay footage? I remember reading around here that there was a lot of footage from that trailer that Square tried to pass off as gameplay.

So, SotB, RIME and EGttR aren't new? Did you even watch the show?

Also, I find it quite hypocritical when we complain about how AAA games are ruining the industry, and yet want to criticize Sony for showing some indie love.

Newsflash: We already know about all of the major AAA titles for next-gen. The majority of them are third-party titles. If you're waiting for anything from SSM or ND, wait until the VGA's or E3.

Show was ok, lots of medium/small announcements but nothing mind blowing and the release date was a little disappointing, especially for europe.

You're getting the console about 14 days after the US, why are you complaining?

"Console exclusive" indy games errrywhere. I guess it's cool to see Sony support the little guy so much, but I really must question the thinking behind using a valuable marketing event like Gamescom to associate your cutting-edge console with games that could run on your previous console. Maybe it'll work in their favour in the end, but the event did absolutely nothing to tempt me to get a PS4 since all the stuff they showed is coming to PC anyways.

Crackhead cameraman was fun, though.

And you don't consider that to be a problem? They could have even expanded on games they shown previously, like The Order or Deep Down.
No, I don't think it's a problem. Developing stuff to get ready for a show is an extremely time-consuming process that diverts attention from actual development. If the developer doesn't have anything at a polished, playable point, it's especially pointless. You don't need an announcement trailer twice, and they're not going to help themselves by forcing something out to make a show deadline when they were just at a show 2 months ago. Do you expect a new round of AAAs announced every 3 months or something?

On Everybody goes to Rapture and Shadow of the Beat, we can't say anything about those games since they showed no gameplay whatsoever. That should never be allowed in a conference IMO. Final Fantasy 15 is the proper way to announce a game. Notice how they actually showed gameplay on their reveal.
Holy shit.

Two price drops, a release date announcement and alot of games were shown that I hadn't laid eyes on before. For a Gamescon, this was a big one. This wasn't meant to be an E3 but even most E3's don't see two hardware pricedrops and a release date announcement. I understand the desire to see more Triple A big budget games but we all knew beforehand that wasn't going to be the case.

But truly, Sony made this their day for Indies. They clearly see a big battle there looming and today was them firing a large volley on that front. I just hope those Indies bring the hits that Sony Microsoft think will eventually come.

Gaf should have prepared for it's own meltdown
Epic post.

Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Focus on what's at launch and shortly afterwards, not stuff a year or more out on the horizon. The hardcore are gonna buy it regardless, but the more fickle core and casual ones are going to care much more about stuff they know they can actually play in a couple months or a few weeks, not years down the road.

Personally the indie games left a far bigger impression on me. I could see myself picking up that Tim Burton-looking one, the shmup, Rouge Legacy and Helldiver and calling it a day right there. Knack, Driveclub and Watch Dogs would be the icing on the cake.

If I can manage to get a PS4 this year, anyway.

Edit: Rime too. That was the Ico/Wind Waker-looking game, right? Damn impressive game there.

Apart from Rime and Killzone I was bored, very bored. The camera work for the stream didnt help either as I wanted to see the OS properly.

Think I might hold off on next gen this year.

If they fucked off Ubisoft and put in a couple of first party reveals (GG RPG and MM new game) it would have been a great conference.
The Ubisoft stuff was just a black hole that sucked everything in.
Indies + Rime saved it.

Conference was fine but fuck me does the camera man need to be taken outside and beaten with a nice piece of hickory. The constant switching from actual trailers/footage to some wide shot of the whole place had me shouting at my monitor.

It was disappointing for me, I dunno. I was hoping for more PS4 games to be announced, same with Vita. Only Vita game that was remotely interesting was that awesome music game

Were many people really expecting an announcement of new first-party AAA titles at a Gamescom conference? How often have there been any major first-party AAA titles announced at a previous Gamescom by Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo? Sony's conference met my expectations in terms of content, the glaring negative was whoever was responsible for switching cameras every 10 seconds.

Why do you say that? I care. You say this as if because they showed a bunch of indie titles that it's all that the PS4 will be doing. They're gonna have variety. They'll have their big budget AAA titles, they'll have F2P games that aren't behind a pay wall. They'll have the creative indie games. What's wrong with that?

I for one think it's great having indie games included in the PS4's library. I need variety. I am so tired of first person shooters. This gen has been over saturated with them.

And Rime looks awesome. =)

Overall it was a good conference with lots of really cool games shown.I really enjoyed the fact they showed new ideas and variety as well not just shooter, shooter, shooter there was plenty of variety and it's nice to see it won't be all brown and grey next gen.

The vita thing was pretty good as well but I was surprised they didn't offer a PS4/Vita bundle. Also Rime looks really cool that art style is amazing same with that other vita game Murasaki Baby.

After this conference, I'm contemplating just straight up canceling my PS4 and getting an Xbox One. How is it possible that MS was able to beat Sony when all they had was a presser? I guess Sony can only do well when their competition fucks up, but when they are on equal ground then they don't know what the hell to do.

Yes there was expectations due to the poor games showing in terms of exclusives for Sony at E3.

The upside:
  • Indie love
  • Everybody's Gone to the Rapture - A spiritual successor to the acclaimed Dear Esther.
  • Rime
  • Shadow of the Beast reboot - Amiga nostalgia in God of War's clothes. I'm hopeful but sceptical. I wonder if some of the old members of Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool are involved? If they are, that would definitely increase my interest for it.
  • Housemarque's Resogun for free at launch.
  • Helldivers looked somewhat similar to Dead Nation, which is definitely not a bad thing.
  • The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth for free next year.
  • Significant discount for those that buy a PS3 version of some of the upcoming games, and want to buy a PS4 version as well. Good gesture, eventhough it doesn't concern me personally, as I probably won't be buying any of those games in the first place.
  • No paywall for entertainment services, which was already known, but it was still nice to hear it confirmed.
  • Entertainment services announced for Europe.
  • Minimalistic and stylish UI, like the XMB, without obtrusive ads. Hopefully there's some change in the background, like on the PS3 depending on the time of day or year, or a possibility to change the color; "Any color you like, as long as it's black."
  • Launch in 32 countries, including Finland.
  • The hilarious jab at Microsoft's 180 turn regarding the DRM tactics, and the crowd reaction.

The downside:
  • Mere confirmation that ND, SSM and other Sony studios are working on new games (well, doh!), but none of them were shown.

I did see those games. The fact I can't tell the difference between them and the indie games means I'm going to disregard them just the same. Shadow of the Beast wasn't gameplay so I don't care. I barely consider these ps4 games right now.
