It's interesting having watched the conference while GAF servers melted down, then returning to read post-conference impressions. I thought for sure many Gaffers would've been excited about all the stuff Sony announced/showed. Conference threads usually bitch about wanting games, Games, GAMES!!! Sony's conference was absolutely loaded with games, most of which are new announcements for Playstation, and not known about before. Yet, reading this thread without having watched the conference for oneself, one might think Sony's conference were no different than Microsoft's, only announcing a couple of new games. It's obvious that the most disappointed people are primarily big-budget-title-only gamers. That's fine. But for me, the best games of the generation are a mix of both big budget and indie titles. And I thought it was a pretty good conference.
Besides being light on new AAA announcements, everything else was great. We saw Shu navigating the UI, which now looks more like an evolution of the XMB(at least to me) which is great, because I love the XMB. Twitch was a big deal. They actually announced a launch date. They're countering Microsoft's trade-up deal for select PS3 games. They're launching in over 30 countries this year. And of course a ton of exciting games were announced/shown (to people who aren't allergic to indie titles).
I'm glad to see Sony are not simply showing the same stuff they did at E3, and are continuing to announce new things for PS4. And according to Mortimer, Sony are still holding back a bunch of announcements. Things are looking bright for the PS4. Now we wait for TGS and then launch!
