Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

My thoughts on yesterday. I certainly don't care for Borderlands 2 and wish they would put the money somewhere else but I am happy about the Indie support and especially hyped for BoI (even better that it is for free with ps+).

Rogue Legacy is also great but I've already played it enough on pc.

Overall I am happy with the Vita showing and know it will continue to satisfy my needs.

OK VitaGAF, help me decide please :)

Which one do you think look the best for my Vita custom skin--I decided on these two finalist but can't decide the winner:

or its reverse version:

But why do you get upper half of elf on it and not legs? ;)

Anyway P4G Risette trophy - this thing is driving me crazy - I'm not running my second set of characters through all the dungeons to maximize the number of lines she drops but it' still driving me crazy.

Also i've got Risette social link at lvl 3 - if i advance will she get more scanning abilities ?

Price cuts all well and good, but in terms of the actual announcements the only big one was Borderlands 2, and everyone has played it, by the time it comes out it will probably be atleast 18 months old. Same with rouge legacy, i love it, but ive already finished it on pc.

Yes theres are are some new indie titles that will launch on vita/ps4 but in terms of big original 3d games, there was nothing, nothing even from first party.

Some great new games announced alright but for the Vita to become more attractive it needs to be seen. High profile retail games is the answer.
Few will walk in to a store/shop online and buy a console on account of the digital only games available.
The extremely sparse library of retail games on the Vita today will only scare people away from it.
Maybe more bundles with redemption codes for digital content?
Or a green Vita/Minecraft bundle? I'm sure that would sell well this holiday.

Followed up a day of Dragon's Crown and Killzone w/ super-casual Fruit Ninja and I'm changing my stance on it. I don't regret buying it. Fun little time killer, well made and has personality... reminds me of something from Namco's PS1 Guncon game, Point Blank, just expanded and polished into it's own self-contained game. Mobile games are ok.

Would you regret it if I told you that they dropped the price to $5 in this week's store update...

I'm still not sold on Divekick. It seems the novelty will wear off fairly quickly.

Is UMvC on sale? Get that. Divekick is always going to be 8 or 10 dollars.

Thanks, just bought UMvC for $10! Downloading now. I do have $8.97 left in my PSN wallet, so techincally I could go ahead and get Divekick as well, but I too am worried about the novelty wearing off in a day or two (wish there was a demo!).

Could anyone tell me why Spleunky HD is seemingly universally praised here? I've watched some YouTube videos, and while I do admit it's a attractive looking 2D platformer, I'm curious as to why so many people are hyped. Is there something I might have overlooked? I might save that $8.97 towards Spleunky simply because I trust you guys, but I really do want to know what makes Spleunky great.

Spelunky is quite literally one of my favorite games of the last 10 years. Retail, Indie or whatever.

Basically, it's endlessly replayable. A lot of games try to do the randomly generated level thing and it can be very hit or miss, but Spelunky does it so, so well. Levels can feel similar but they're always different enough to remain fun.

It's short. Between 16 and 20 levels each of which take a minute or two to do, but that's why it keeps being fun. It's easy to pick up, do a run until you most likely die, put it down then try again. It's a very good high score running game and it remains genuinely fun to keep trying at, at least for me. It's also extremely hard so when you get a good run it feels so, so good.

The mechanics of course feel very cool. It controls very well, and there's lots of cool items to find. Lots of secrets in the game too.

It's just an extremely well made and addicting game all-round. I put 40+ hours into the XBLA version, just bought it on steam and I'm at about 15 hours on that, and I'm going to pick it up again on Vita next week and probably but more time than XBLA and steam combined because now I can just pick up and play at any time...

If you're getting one get a bundle.
All bundles that have a game and card are 199.99 as well. No reason to bother with the vanilla systems with no goodies. Walking Dead bundle is the best one out currently.

Sounds good, especially since I haven't played Walking Dead yet.

You'll eventually want to invest in a 32GB card anyway if you become attached to your Vita. I tried to get by on a 16GB and it only took me a few months to amass a library of games that exceeded it even though I prioritise physical carts over digital copies.

I guess I should go for the largest memory card then since all I care about are all the downloadable indie games.

Played through like half of mutant blobs and didn't enjoy it at all even though I liked guacamelee :/

Maybe it's because of all the katamari I played last week.

So i brought NLKS, DOA5+ and NFS: MW right now. I hope that NLKS frame rate doesn't annoy me since i have high tolerance for frame rate issues. Now i have close to 20 digital games(PS+ not included) and just.... 4 retail ones, out of which, i sold 2 of them.
20 might seem like a small number but i just got a VITA at end of April and my backlog is increasing every month. Going to get Rayman Legends and Killzone on launch, hopefully.

Final Fantasy Type-0 for PSP. Only officially released in Japan, but there's an English fan-translation in the works.

Laughing Banana can play it on his Vita because he's hacked it.

Should have known... but it being on Vita threw me off :| I really want this game as well, sigh.

I'm very pumped for Toukiden. It's a few steps up from MH PSP graphically, with AA and dynamic character shadows. No texture filtering, though, and it shows. -_-

does divekick not not a vs Cpu mode?

i can either do story mode, VS which is against another local player (that must be awkward) or online play

i think this is like the first fighting game in the world where theres no single fight mode, where you can pick your character, your opponent, and what stage you want

im playing through story but you kind of get whatever opponent the game decides. (also, S-kill is a TOTAL BASTARD)

Didn't have one when I checked. It was £7.99

Yeah I checked too but I'm just wondering if maybe that's a mistake since the store hasn't actually properly updated yet and you can only find it via the search function. Also they said it's getting a plus discount without specifying regions. If they didn't specify regions I naturally assumed it was getting a discount in all regions. Pretty disappointing if it's not.
